WHO BENEFITS
INSTITUTIONS CARING FOR CHILDREN IN NEED, TROUBLE OR AT RISK
The current FAAFC beneficiaries are 3 American and 4 French charities all involved
in helping abused, neglected or sick children heal, regain hope and confidence,
and get a fresh start in life.
In the United States, they are:
! The Children’s Storefront: a private tuition-free school in Harlem providing
quality education since 1966 in a warm learning environment from pre-K
through the eighth grade. FAAFC currently contributes to the pre-school
Kindergarten.
! The Children’s Village: a residential care and treatment center just outside
New York City created in 1851 to help neglected, battered and abused
children in judicial care. FAAFC currently funds family therapy programs,
notably “Project I.M.P.A.C.T.” (Intervention to Maintain Parents and Children
Together) to help reintegrate the children back into a safe home life, and
expand visitation and fatherhood programs.
! Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club: an after-school activity center founded in 1915
in the Bronx. At the Club Houses, children and teenagers, who might otherwise
be out in the streets, are engaged in a variety of activities ranging from sports,
music and dance to educational help and counseling. FAAFC currently
participates in the expansion of new facilities with a focus on programs for
new immigrants.
In France, the beneficiaries are:
! France Parrainages: it was established in 1947 as the Centre Français de
Protection de l’Enfance. FAAFC participates in expanding local Sponsoring, a
unique program designed to pair up children growing up in dysfunctional
families with a volunteer part-time host family, who receives no financial
reward.
! La Société de Charité Maternelle de Paris, an organization created in 1784 to
provide emergency help to families in need. FAAFC helps the, “Centre de
Cardiologie Infantile et de Pédiatrie des Côtes”, acquire specialized medical
and technical equipment and also supports milk and diaper distribution at
their 14th arrondissement Center for new Mothers.
! A.L.P.C.: an association that fights social exclusion of deaf children by making
oral and written French language accessible.
! Tête en l’Air: a parents association that counsels families whose children have
been operated and monitored in Neurosurgery.
Representatives from the American charities are with us tonight.
