August 22 - Shipwrecks of the NJ Shore – Gretchen Coyle & Deb Whitcraft --- The 127 miles of the NJ shore have
over 2700 documented wrecks. Hundreds lie directly off LBI. These wrecks had a large impact on the early
population of the shore, and on the formation of the US Lifesaving Service, predecessor of the Coast Guard.
August 29 - The Lucy Evelyn – Jeanette Lloyd & Ron Marr --- From Memorial Day 1949 through 1972, when she burned
in a February gale, the “Lucy” was one of the most unique gift shops on the Shore. Her history from 1917 as
one of the last Maine lumber schooners built, through her life on LBI, is shown in pictures and the reminiscences
of Jeanette and other “Lucy Girls”.

Jersey shore, and especially Matawan, were seized with a panic that had men patrolling the shoreline with rifles.
This was the inspiration for “Jaws”.
