Date of entry into the companies’ register: 16th September 2004
Number of employees as of August 2010: 632
Primary sphere of business: design, development, production, sales and maintenance of
aircraft and aviation products
Brief history of the company
In 2005 Aircraft Industries, a. s., acquired Letecké závody, a. s., the successor of LET, a. s. The
company is the largest civil aircraft manufacturer in Czech Republic and has produced over
8,000 aircraft of various types and categories since 1936. After its establishment, practically
all aircraft types flown in Czechoslovakia were sent to this plant for repairs. In the early
50s, construction of a new plant (the existing plant premises) was begun for the transfer
of production of the Soviet design, YAK 11 trainer (produced under license as C 11). The
production series stopped at 710 aircraft. Later, a modernized version of the AERO Ae 45/145
production followed with over 370 units produced. In 1957, company designed its own
first general aviation category aircraft, the L 200 Morava of which over 360 have been
produced. Production of the Z 37 “Bumble Bee” crop spraying aircraft started in 1961 and
ended with more than 700 units produced
in 1984. The plant produced over 1,700
units of the L 29 “Dolphin” jet trainers
as well. In 1969, the L 410 commuter
aircraft made its maiden flight. Just the
various modifications and versions of the
L 410 alone represent over 1,100 aircraft
produced and delivered by LET.
20
The L 610, 40-seat regional commuter aircraft was developed and tested during the 90s.
The project was then suspended.
LET also produced small aircraft like Zlin Z 22 Junak as well as gliders like Z 124 Galanka,
LF 109 Pionyr, Z 425 Sohaj. The most successful glider is the L 13 Blanik, exported to
43 countries around the world. Over 2,600 Blanik gliders have been produced. The all
metal, two-seat L 23 Super Blanik has been produced since 1988, and the all-metal
single-seat L 33 Solo glider since 1991. Since 1998 again the L 13 Blaník has been
produced in advanced variant for aerobatic use.
Between 1998 and 2001 LET has been extensively involved in development, production
and assembly of the multi-purpose LM 200 Loadmaster aircraft capable for both cargo
and passenger operation.
At present Aircraft Industries produces two advanced types of the L 410 commuter aircraft,
the L 410 UVP-E20 certified by EASA and the L 420 certified according to FAA regulations.
Throughout its history, the company has also been involved in complementary
non aeronautical production covering various fields from radar technology to the
automotive industry.

2. COMPANY PROFILE
Honeywell Aerospace Olomouc s.r.o. was founded in 2000 calling Mora Aerospace, a.s. as
a result of separating the aerospace division from the mother corporation Mora Moravia
known for assembling stoves. There was legal entity transformation and company changed
its name from Mora Aerospace, a.s. to Honeywell Aerospace Olomouc s.r.o. in July 2008.
Beginnings of the highly specialized production – aviation production date back to 1951,
when it has been a cooperator for the final producer company called Motorlets Praha –
Jinonice by delivering hot–resistant and sheet metal parts for turbojet engines. The decision
to produce these parts at Moravia in Marianske Udoli was made because this company
had a lot of experience with sheet metal processing. In the fifties there was a production
of parts for turbo jet engines M 05, later for M 05 FA for jets MiG 15 a MiG 17, M 06
for bomber jets IL 28, since 1961 on for M 701 – first by pass turbo jet engine of cz
construction for training planes Aero L-39 Albatros turboprop engine M 601 for small
commercial airplanes L 410 (year 1971), turbo starter Saphir for training planes Aero L-39
„Albatros“ and finally in the eighties technologically sophisticated engines M-602 a DV-2.
The cooperation between the division of the aviation production and the American
company Garret Aerospace (later Allied Signal, today’s Honeywell) producing airplane
engines dates back to 1991. It was necessary to meet the strict American criteria,
especially aligning the work organization according to the requirements set by quality
guide matched to the world aviation directives. On January 1st, 2000, the aviation division
separated and a new company Mora Aerospace was founded, employing 259 people. Two
years later the Repair and Overhaul was established, which performs general component
repairs of air plane engines. Since February 5th, 2002 Honeywell, as one of the world
leading companies, is the owner of Honeywell Aerospace Olomouc, which became a part
45

2. COMPANY PROFILE
Jihostroj, a.s. was founded in 1919 as a plant for the manufacture of precise electric
and mechanical engineering products in the South Bohemian town of Velešín where the
company’s headquarters is currently located.
The company soon reached an above-average standard and in 1936 introduced the
production of instruments and components for the aeronautical industry and after 1950
introduced the production of hydraulics and other components for the automotive
industry. These domains have been creating the main business program of the company
up to the present time. It thus enables us to use the experience from the previous years
from the field of design, production and operation.
Jihostroj gradually became one of
the principle centres of mechanical engineering production in
South Bohemia with a good reputation from the long-term point of
view. The facilities are equipped
with the crucial manufacturing
technologies for machining, heat
treatment and surface treatment
of parts (including paint spray
shop for aerospace components),
assembly and testing of products,
including Non-Destructive Testing
equipment, production of tools,
fixtures, gages and moulds. Jihostroj has its own strong research
60
and development department for both the aerospace division and for industrial hydraulics division. Own research and developments programs are constantly considered
as a necessary primary condition for new business programs development success. In
1992, the firm has been privatised in the form of a joint-stock company. It is owned by
individual shareholders and institutional investors. Since 1994, the two main production
programs were concentrated into separate manufacturing divisions: Industrial Hydraulics Division and Aerospace Division.
Number of employees: 670 (2008)
Annual sales: EURO 24.4 mil.
The core company businesses are the aerospace equipment and industrial hydraulics.
The production program of the company is complemented by other activities, such as
heat and surface treatment, production of instruments and gauges, tools and made-toprint production.
The high demands and standards required for aeronautical production, high level of
development and technology are also applicable to the production of hydraulics and
other products. Jihostroj, a. s. is thus presenting itself as a partner able to meet the
onerous technical requirements of its business partners.
This is also justified by its wide range of customers. They are both traditional and new
Czech and Slovak companies from the aeronautical, automotive, tractor and similar
branches of the industry. In the recent years, our export share is rapidly growing, as the
number of customers from Germany, USA, Italy, Austria, Hungary, U.K., France, South
Korea and other countries increases, and exports to the whole industrial world plays
a major role in company business dynamics.
Quality and environmental system meets ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14 000 and EASA Part
21 and EASA Part 145 standards, AS 9100 and it is audited on a regularly basis by

LATECOERE, Toulouse, France (100 %)
History of the company:
Letov is the oldest aircraft manufacturer in the Czech Republic. Company was founded
in 1918 by the Czechoslovak Defence Ministry to repair the aircraft of the Czechoslovak
Air Force obtained after the WW I. In 1921 Letov produced the first Czech designed
aircraft Letov Š1, designed by Alois Šmolík. During 20th and 30th Letov designed and
produced over 50 types of aircraft of all categories. During WW II the company was
occupied by German Army and served as a repair shop for the aircraft of the German
Luftwaffe. On the beginning of fifties Letov started the licence production of the wing
and empennage of the Soviet jet fighter MiG-15. The final assembly was made at the
newly founded company Aero Vodochody. After MiG-15 the production of wings and
empennages for MiG-19 and MiG-21 followed.
70
In sixties Letov started together with Aero Vodochody the development and production
of wings and empennages for the new Czech jet trainer L-29 Delfin. Over 4000 aircraft
of this type was built and Delfin is the most spread aircraft in his category. Delfins
serve until today in many air forces of the world (Czech Rep., Russia, Malaysia, Egypt
etc.). The successor of Delfin was in 70th the L-39 Albatros. The wing and empennage
were again developed and built at Letov. Over 2500 aircraft was produced until now.
After political changes in the Czechoslovakia and the former eastern block Letov started
successful collaboration with the German aerospace industry and since 1991 Letov has
been delivering parts and subassemblies for the Airbus aircraft.
During 1997 substantial restructuring of the Letov Company was performed. From the
former Aircraft Product Division the daughter company LETOV LETECKÁ VÝROBA, a.s, was
established. The new company is responsible for the production of parts and subassemblies
for the Airbus aircraft and for the new Czech combat aircraft L159 ALCA. Since June 2000
LETOV LETECKÁ VÝROBA became a daughter company of the French aircraft manufacturer
LATECOERE, from Toulouse (www.latecoere.fr). Since 2000 LETOV LETECKÁ VÝROBA has
been increasing production for the Airbus, Embraer, Dassault and Boeing aircraft.

2. COMPANY PROFILE
SPEEL PRAHA, Ltd., a small sized company led by Dr. Jiří Vidiečan, Managing Director, was
established in August 1993 as a successor of Automation and Aircraft Diagnostics Division,
which was a part of Aeronautical Research and Test Institute, Prague, Czech Republic.
SPEEL designs and manufactures solid-state memory based flight recorders and aircraft
monitoring systems for fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft.
In July 2000 SPEEL received ISO 9001 certification from KEMA, a Netherlands based
international Quality Certification Company, for the design and manufacture of avionics
systems, including solid state crash-protected flight data recorders, aircraft monitoring
systems and ground support equipment. SPEEL’s ISO 9001 certification was a natural
extension of SPEEL’s already strict quality processes as the company is dedicated to
providing high-quality products to the aviation and the automotive industry.
SPEEL also holds the following aviation certificates:
 Approval Certificate from the Czech MoD in compliance with the Czech Military
Aviation regulations for the production of military aviation equipment.
 CAA/EASA Certificate for the development and production of avionics equipment for
the civil aviation.
SPEEL invested more than 30 years of avionics and aircraft diagnostics experience in its
product line, which includes:
Flight Data & Cockpit Voice Recorders:
SPEEL offers a full range of FDRs with crash-protected solid-state memory for the various
versions of L39/L59 aircraft, and also as a modern substitution of Russian recorders ZBN
1/BUR 1, SARPP-12DM/GM/IM, and TESTER. SPEEL’s FDRs meet MIL-STD-810C/461C
requirements and TSO C51a crash protection requirements.
118
Cockpit Voice and Flight data Recorder – CVFDR:
SPEEL‘s CVFDR, is a solid-state combined cockpit voice and flight data recorder that can
be easily configured for use as a voice recorder only, data recorder only, or both. The
recorder feature improved recording technology and capabilities over SPEEL‘s previous
recorders. It has been designed to meet the harshest environments as dictated by
TSOC124a/TSO-C123a, and it can fit both military and civil aircraft.
Crash-survivable Airborne data Recorder – CARE
CARE is Speel‘s latest generation crash-protected solid-state memory flight recorder,
which complies with ED-56A crash survivability requirements. CARE unit communicates
with other systems on board the aircraft (e.g. acquisition unit) via an Ethernet link or
RS-422. The utilization of the Ethernet technology along with a legacy file system within
the memory unit of the recorder allows the user access the memory content of the
recorder through legacy protocols (e.g. FTP, Internet protocols), via CARE’s Ethernet link
both onboard or on the ground(Data downloading/uploading). Its small size and weight
make CARE an attractive solution for platforms where space and weight reduction is
a must (military aircraft, UAV applications, etc.).
Complete Recording solution for F-7 and C-130 aircraft:
Based on the latest generation of SPEEL‘s recording systems, many aircraft such as
the F-7P fighter jet and the C-130 heavy transport aircraft can now benefit from a
comprehensive, efficient and reliable data monitoring and recording thanks to SPEEL‘s
CARE flight recorder when used ingeniously in conjunction with SPEEL’s a Data
Concentrator Unit (COAD) and a compact Flight Data Acquisition Unit (FDAU-F7) built
specifically to address installation in a tight space on the aircraft.
The utilization of Ethernet technology to connect the above systems together allows
highspeed data transfers and faster voice and flight data downloading on the ground
equipment (PANDA software). The FDAU-F7 acquires many input signals from aircraft
systems through originally installed sensors as well as through the use of sensors
(Accelerometers, position sensors, Air data unit, etc…) supplied by SPEEL.
CVFDR (Cockpit Voice & Flight Data Recorder) for the helicopter (SA 342 L).
Aircraft Monitoring Systems:
AirMiS for L159B:
SPEEL’s Airborne Mission Server system (AIRMIS) design is based on an open-system
architecture approach. The system’s standard avionics interfaces allows it to be installed
on various modern platforms on which there is a need to combine all data sources
(data buses, audio/video, mission planning data, etc…) into a single recording unit.
119
ASSOCIATION OF THE AVIATION MANUFACTURERS OF THE CZECH REPUBLIC
AirMiS’s removable mass memory cartridge is an ideal recording medium that provides
readily available flight information for grounds crews to perform a complete mission
de-briefing and analysis.
AMOS for L159A/B:
SPEEL’s Aircraft Monitoring System (AMOS) has been built for the new Czech combat
aircraft L159. AMOS (comprising a Flight Data Acquisition Unit and a Crash Memory
Unit) interfaces with Boeing‘s avionics onboard the L159 via MIL-STD-1553B data bus.
AMOS complies with MIL-STD-810E/461D and TSO-C124a requirements.
Air Data Computer:
Speel’s ADC159 is an RVSM capable device which measure pressure inputs from
a pitotstatic probe and copmutes pressure altitude and airspeed thanks to the use of
highaccuracy, high-reliability pressure transducers designed specifically for Aerospace
apps. It is currently installed on the L-159B. The unit is ARINC-706-4 compliant.
Engine Load Monitoring System:
ELM 601 device has been designed to monitor the operation load of the Walter M601
turboprop engine. The whole system, designed into a compact instrument, allows for
automatic data collection, recording and indication of service load parameters of the
M601 engine.
Acceleration Monitoring Unit:
SPEEL’s Acceleration Monitoring Unit AMU1.01 is an electronic device, installed in the
centre of gravity of an aircraft, which records to its internal solid-state memory aircraft‘s
vertical acceleration value, which exceeded predefined positive or negative limits of vertical
acceleration as well as the time when the event occurred. This allows the user to gain more
accurate information on fatigue life design and life usage monitoring of the aircraft.
Other aircraft recording equipment:
The above listed products are just few examples of SPEEL’s product line. Other systems
such as a synchro-to-ARINC429 data converter and various types of Flight data acquisition
units are manufactured by Speel to complement SPEEL’s existing airborne systems and
to accommodate various aircraft types. More information on these additional products
can be found on our website at www.speel.cz.
Ground Evaluation Equipment:
SPEEL’s Ground Evaluation Equipment (GEE) including a workstation and a software
package (PANDA) is supplied for recorded flight data evaluation and FDR testing by
maintenance ground crews.
120
Electronic Tachographs:
Besides works in avionics SPEEL designs, and produces Solid-state memory based
Electronic Tachographs for subway and railway vehicles.
3. COOPERATION CAPABILITIES
Upgrade Programs:
With its long experience and extensive knowledge of Russian technology, SPEEL is the
right company to co-operate with when it comes to modernisation programs, where
tapebased flight data recorders are to be replaced with solid-state ones.
Fitting an aircraft with a modern FDR/CVR:
SPEEL uses up-to-date technology in its products, which are built to meet demanding western
standards. As such, they can easily interface with western avionics on board a modern aircraft.
SPEEL offers a great flexibility in designed a tailored FDR/CVR to fulfil customer’s needs.
Seamless Integration of FDRs into SPEEL’s Ground Support Equipment:
SPEEL has great capabilities in terms of software development. Our software department
uses the most advanced tools to build and update its software used in the Ground Support
Equipment (GEE). The design philosophy lying behind SPEEL’s GEE is such that the
software is developed in such a manner as to allow for the use of a unique software
package for various types of flight data recorders. In fact PANDA software, whose design
is based on a modular architecture, allows for the integration of virtually any type of
Flight Data Recorder. Currently, PANDA is being used by the Czech Air Force (CAF) at all
its airports for flight data downloading and evaluation. Should the CAF acquire a new
fighter aircraft, the integration of the new FDR into PANDA will be straightforward, thus
allowing the CAF to keep using the same software throughout its airports. No hustle
and no extra training required. From the logistics support point of view, such a solution
would be highly beneficial for the CAF, which seeks upgrade solutions that get them up
and running quickly and with minimum alteration of the existing infrastructure.
LOOKING AHEAD:
SPEEL’s dynamic research team keeps on seeking news approaches and ideas to either
improve the capabilities or expand SPEEL’s product line.
For instance, SPEEL has just accomplished the design of an Acceleration Monitoring
Device. Now, Based on NTSB/FAA recommendations for future FDR/CVR regulations,
SPEEL has set two milestones for the design of:
 A Remote data recording system monitoring (downlink) of aircraft systems in realtime.
 a wireless link between SPEEL‘s recorders and the Ground Evaluation Equipment
 a crash protected solid-state video recorder compliant to ED-112 specifications.
This is an area where SPEEL’s expertise in providing solid-state recording solutions can
contribute a great deal.
