I have enjoyed a very busy but wonderful summer. As you know, I was home in Germany visiting my family during the month of June, and on my return brought back my 15 year old niece with me for a month long vacation. It’s been a great opportunity for me to share with her the beauty of nature in our region of this great country. vour of freshly picked produce, straight from the garden to your table. Not only have we been visiting throughout the region, but we also ventured up north to North Bay, Temagami and took a trip on the Polar Bear Express, departing from Cochrane and travelling to Moosonee and Moose Factory, located on the edge of the Arctic. It was certainly something different for my niece, who is used to city life in Hamburg, Germany. I always try to capture as much of that flavour as I can, for as long as I can. While our growing season is relatively short, making preserves and jam is a great way to keep those tastes top-of-mind year round. While up north I made sure to pick up some wild blueberries that were in peak season which I plan to use for making homemade jam. Now that summer is here we can celebrate the bounty of the Ontario harvest — fruits and vegetables abound. There’s nothing more delicious than enjoying the fla- This edition we offer some more great kitchen toys for your consideration, along with our high quality line of food processors, which will help you to whip up some homemade preserves quickly and efficiently. The difference being that preserves still contain chunks of fruit, whereas jam is more like a fruit puree.
