INTRODUCTION
FISAF United Sport Aerobics, Fitness and Hip Hop Australia (FUSAFHHA) is proud to provide
these rules and regulations to assist you when entering a FISAF Australia sanctioned
competition in 2014. These guidelines SUPERSEDE any previous FISAF Australia rules and
guidelines.

FUSAFHHA is an independent and democratic organisation, dedicated to sport aerobics,
fitness and hip hop in Australia. As the national governing body for sports aerobics, fitness
and hip hop we are dedicated to the development, promotion and regulation of sports
aerobics, fitness and hip hop competition. We do this by ensuring the enforcement of fair
and equitable rules and procedures, and by endeavouring to advance the level of sport
aerobics, fitness and hip hop in Australia from novice level to international competition.

Hop, treating them with dignity and consideration, as well as caring for the property and
equipment they use.

RESPONSIBILITY - Taking responsibility of own actions and being a role model at all times
SAFETY - Encouraging healthy and safe procedures, and preventing and reporting
dangerous behaviour whilst demonstrating concern for others
OBJECTIVES:
FUSAFHHA is an organisation whose objective is to ensure sports aerobics, fitness and hip
hop is carried out in a planned and efficient way. In particular FUSAFHHA will:
1. Serve as the coordinating body for sports aerobics, fitness and hip hop activity in

2. Exercise jurisdiction over state and national activities, sanction competitions held in
Australia; and promotes international competition.
3. Encourage, promote and further develop physical fitness, sportsmanship and public
participation in sports aerobics, fitness and hip hop competition and activities in
Australia.
4. Educate, train and certify members and the public with respect to sport aerobics, fitness
and hip hop competition.
5. Assist organisations and individuals concerned with the development of programs for
athletes in sports aerobics, fitness and hip hop competition, and provide services for
members' benefit.
6. Provide a system of Rules and Guidelines with which to govern sport aerobics, fitness
and hip hop at the state and national level, along with an effective means of enforcing
them, and a judicial process that is fair to competitors while providing for optimum
integrity within the sport.
7. Disseminate and distribute, or otherwise make readily available to athletes, coaches,
trainers, managers, administrators and officials, in a timely manner the applicable Rules
and Guidelines; and any changes to such Rules and Guidelines of the organisation; and
provide for the swift and equitable resolution of conflicts and disputes involving its
members
8. Establish organisational "shared understanding" through the organisation’s values and
related systems and procedures.
9. Further develop interest and participation in sports aerobics, fitness and hip hop
throughout Australia and work with affiliate organisations, and other user groups to
encourage participation.
10. Further develop the education support for all coaches and judges including a clear
accreditation framework and competency maintenance program.
11. Protect the right of any athlete, coach, trainer, manager, administrator, or official to
participate in sports aerobics, fitness and hip hop competition. Provide an equal
opportunity to athletes, coaches, trainers, managers, administrators, and officials to
participate in sports aerobics, fitness and hip hop competition without discrimination on
the basis of race, colour, religion, age, sex, or origin and with fair notice and opportunity
for a hearing to any athlete, coach, trainer, manager, administrator, or official before
declaring such individual ineligible to participate.
12. Provide effective and timely communication via website (www.fisafaustralia.com.au ) to
every level of athlete, coach, trainer, manager, administrator, or official within the sport.
13. Serve as the National Federation for sports aerobics, fitness and hip hop competition in
Australia and as a member of FISAF.
14. Work together with FISAF in its mission to protect competition from any form of abuse,
extend the universality of sports aerobics, fitness and hip hop, and promote its visibility
to the public.
15. Coordinate the calendar of competitions to assure FISAF level competitive opportunities
domestically enhance the level of national competition in all FISAF disciplines; and

provide for varying levels of state and national competition in a wide variety of
disciplines to increase the breadth and depth of the sport throughout the country.
16. Aid FISAF in its mission to help achieve sustained competitive excellence.
17. Select and qualify individuals and teams to represent Australia at international
competition and certify, in accordance with the applicable international rules, the
eligibility of such individuals and teams.
18. Provide the strongest possible Australian representation internationally including
providing a selection process for each major event.
19. Assign such powers as are necessary to the efficient and effective operation of the
organisation and the management of sports aerobics, fitness and hip hop.
20. Use membership fees to achieve the objectives of FUSAFHHA, and assist competition
organisers, to develop programmes for judges, coaches, athletes, and to provide
services for members' benefit.
FISAF Australia will continue to provide a competition framework that supports athletes
through a developmental pathway in 2014. Three streams of competition are being offered
to support athletes who have never competed in the sport, through to the elite level. These
three streams are named:



1. COMPETITION INFORMATION
There is NO restriction on any athlete competing in a combination of Elementary,
National & International categories i.e.: An athlete may compete in an Elementary
team with their school, a national trio and an International single.
However, you may not compete in the same category twice i.e.: elementary singles
& National singles (this would lead to an automatic disqualification from both
categories)
Coaches & Athletes are to use their own discretion regarding the categories most
appropriate to the athletes / teams ability (coaches are strongly urged to make sure
that in making these decisions that they consider the values of FISAF Australia).
Athletes / teams may remain in the National stream indefinitely if they wish. ( The
judging panel may suggest an athlete/team consider moving to International Stream
if they deem them capable)
If an athlete / team competes in the National stream, the set obligatories and skills
listed in Appendix 1 strictly apply. Automatic disqualification will apply if any nonobligatories or skills not listed are performed within a routine.

Placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a category in Elementary or National stream, does not
mean an athlete / team must move into the National or International Stream the
following year.
Categories/streams entered by athletes and teams in 2013 do not have any bearing
on their choices for 2014.
The National Stream will offer all the competition categories available in the
International Stream
There is no capping on the number of skills allowed in a national stream routine.
Recommendation is maximum 20.
FRF's sent in are reflective of the coaches and athletes choices for their routine.
Coaches / athletes are responsible for checking the FRF with competition rules &
regulations before entering. FISAF Australia is not responsible for incorrect
choreography or FRF's which may result in deductions or disqualifications.
ELEMENTARY STREAM:
The Elementary Stream supports students who are currently attending an Australian School
from Grade 1 to Year 12 and for those athletes participating as part of a Sport Aerobic club,
who wish to participate in the pre choreographed Sport Aerobics category.
The pre-choreographed routine can be used by individual athletes, pairs (mixed or same
sex) and trios in both Sport Aerobic clubs and/or Schools.
Schools Only:
The pre-choreographed routine can be used by teams of 4-8 athletes for Schools only.
Sport Aerobic clubs cannot compete in the teams section of this stream.
There are four age group categories as follows:
Grade 1, 2, 3 (Grade 2,3,4 for QLD only)
Grade 4, 5, 6 (Grade 5,6,7 for QLD only)
Years 7, 8, 9 (Years 8 & 9 for QLD only)
Years 10, 11 12
You must stay in your year group or grade as detailed above.
All competitors in a team must be from the same school
Single sex schools may have team members from the ‘brother’ or ‘sister’ school
Teams may be any combination of male and female

An implementation pack will be provided at a cost of $66 inc GST which will include a prechoreographed routine DVD with the option of selecting from one of the three songs (2
songs for Grade 1,2,3) basic skills training exercises/tips, choreography notes and lesson
plans. One team per school is entitled to free competition entry to a State Championship
event. Each athlete competing as part of the school program will pay a FISAF membership
fee for 2014. For further information, contact FISAF Australia at

NATIONAL STREAM
The National Stream provides an opportunity for athletes who are keen to develop to an
Elite level, or are continuing to consolidate their skills. The National Stream sections are
available for competition at State and National level only. They are designed to encourage
newer athletes to train, perform and develop through feedback and experience.
An athlete/s may enter the National stream in any section if they do not wish to compete at
the International level of the sport. We do encourage our more experienced and skilled
athletes to reach their potential and to do this we ask that all coaches assist us by ensuring
that athletes enter the section most suitable for their current performance level.

Minnie Advanced and National Individuals (New Section for 2014)
Due to feedback and results shown in 2013, we are dividing the Minnie Individual Female
categories to create a more continuous stream for those going into Cadet International or
Cadet National Stream.
MINNIE NATIONAL section will continue with a simplified skill list and MINNIE ADVANCED
section will be more in line with Cadet International stream skills.
Swag Crews
This category supports hip hop crew who are aged 14 years or below. Teams of eleven or
more can enter this category with music up to 3 minutes duration. Not all team members
have to be on stage at once and can enter/exit stage as per choreography.
Mega Open Crews
This category supports hip hop crew open age (no age limitation) for teams of eleven or
more. Music duration of up to 3 minutes can be used. Not all team members have to be on
stage at once and can enter/exit stage as per choreography.

Expressions (New Section for 2014)
This category is designed for Primary and Secondary school aged groups to explore a variety
of dance styles combining Music, Dance and Costuming. Dance styles that may be used but
not limited are Jazz, Modern, Cabaret and Contemporary. Please see pages 23-26 for
further detail.

If you have athletes whose ages cross over two or more age categories, that wish to
compete in the National Stream, the following ruling applies:
The team must compete in the age group of the oldest athlete.
The younger members of the team may also compete in other sections within their
own age category. For example, it is possible for an athlete to compete in the Junior
Fitness Team section as well as the Cadet Sport Aerobics Team section. It is NOT
possible for an athlete to compete in the same section across more than one age
category. For example an athlete cannot compete in the Junior Fitness Team section
and the Cadet Fitness Team section.
Skills and Obligatory Moves in the National Stream
As FISAF Australia is keen to support coaches and officials within the sport who wish to see
development of the athletes, the use of obligatory moves (skills) in the National Stream
remains HOWEVER these moves have been modified from the set obligatory options shown
for each age group in the International Rules. This will allow National stream athletes to

gradually develop and move towards a higher level of skill, encouraging progression, which
is the essence of sport at a competitive level.
All athletes must nominate one obligatory move within each section, which has an allocated
score. All athletes must execute the move to the judge’s standards to score the move. Skills
to be included in the routine must be from the list detailed in Appendix 1, with a
recommendation of there being no more than 20 skills in total. The judging sheets will
provide feedback on what was counted and what wasn’t as well as why and how it can be
corrected. Athletes who execute moves outside of the obligatory moves and optional skills
lists will be disqualified from the competition.
Please see Appendix 1 for the optional skills list and obligatory moves for the
National Stream for all age categories. Please note a review of this listing has
occurred due to feedback received, so please ensure you do a thorough
review of this listing in preparation for 2014.
INTERNATIONAL STREAM
The International Stream will be governed by the FISAF International Rules and will
encourage those athletes keen to possibly represent their Country on the International field,
an opportunity to compete with that in mind.

WORLD QUALIFICATION
The place getters (Gold, Silver & Bronze medal) at the National Championships in the
International Stream will be invited to compete as part of the Australian Team at the World
Championship event. These medallists and coaches must attend a compulsory training
camp in QLD, due to occur within one month of the National Championship event. Other
place getters in each section may be invited to participate in the World Camp, as per the
Head Judge’s discretion. The World Championship event is being held in Moscow, Russia
October, 2014 – to be confirmed. An information pack regarding the World Championship
event will be provided at the National Championships.
EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
FISAF International have determined that the European Championships are only open to
European athletes, thus no Australian athletes are eligible to compete in 2014.
NEW ZEALAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The NZ National Championship event is open to any Australian FISAF athlete who wishes to
compete. Those athletes who wish to compete must notify FISAF Australia of their intention
to do so one month prior to the event, by emailing admin@fisafaustralia.com.au

2. COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS
2.1 State Championships
Where there are 12 or less competitors, there will be two rounds of competition:
preliminaries and finals. Where there are more than 12 competitors in an age category, a
third round may be held.
The top three place getters in each age group section will be invited to participate in the
National Championships.
The Head Judge has the right to allow more to go through to the National event if deemed
appropriate.
2.2 National Championships
To be eligible to compete at the National Event, you will have placed in one of the top three
positions in your age group, or have been selected by the Head Judge at the State
Championships.
2.3 Future Champions Cup
FISAF Australia will run Future Champions Cup events for those athletes who do not qualify
for the National Championship event and for those athletes who do not place first, second
or third at the National Championship event. These competitions will be open
competitions, thus athletes can compete in any state in which the competitions are being
held during September 2014. Information on specific dates and venues will be loaded onto

2.4 Performance Area
An area of 7 x 7 metres square will be used for Sport Aerobics and 9 x 9 metres square will
be used for Fitness, Step and Hip Hop.
2.5 Competition Order
The order will be randomly drawn by the event organiser and you will be given the order
prior to the competition. Semi-finals and finals order may be shuffled depending on the
tabulation system used by the organiser.
2.6 Sponsor’s Logo
Competition outfits may have one space for sponsor’s name or logo, which must be no
bigger than 10cm by 10 cm.

2.7 Entering and Leaving the Stage
After a competitor is introduced they are to enter the performance area and promptly
assume their starting position. The competitor may briefly greet or acknowledge the
audience and judges prior to assuming their starting position and thank or acknowledge the
audience and judges before promptly exiting.
2.8 False Start/Interruption
A false start is defined as:
1. A technical problem preventing commencement of a performance after the
athlete/s have entered the stage
2. A technical problem preventing continuation of a performance once it has started.
A false start/interruption is when the circumstances causing it are not within the
competitor’s control. This would include but is not limited to damage to the facility, failure
of equipment or foreign objects on the stage. The decision as to whether the false
start/interruption will be acceptable will be at the sole discretion of the Head Judge.
If it is deemed to be a false start/interruption, then the competitor will have the option of
performing immediately or at the end of the category. In the event the false start occurs
near the end of the category, or the last competitor in that category, then the error is to be
corrected at that time and the competitor then goes on stage. A routine that is not started
or is interrupted, without completion, due to the fault of the athlete, is not considered a
false start/interruption. This would include but is not limited to, forgetting a routine, falling
down from a pair or team starting position. If not a false start/interruption, the competitor
will be disqualified.
2.9 Medical Attention
Competitors enter and perform at their own risk. No responsibility for illness or injury
sustained in connection with any FISAF event will be accepted by the organisers. A medical
professional or official will be on-site in the event of injury or illness. It is the responsibility
of the athlete and/or coach to report an athlete’s injury or illness to the event organiser.
If at any time prior to or during competition an athlete is ill, injured or his/her physical
condition is at risk by competing, he/she may be declared ineligible to compete or
disqualified from competing further. The competition organiser reserves the right to
withdraw any competitor who appears to have such serious injury or medical condition.

Medical apparatus such as casts or plastic or metal joint braces may be worn with prior
approval from FISAF Australia before the competition day and presentation of a clearance
certificate by a medical practitioner.
The competition organiser reserves the right to request the submission of a physician’s
written authorisation for an athlete to compete.
2.10 Routine/Music Changes
Music changes between rounds of competition at an event will not be permitted. In the
case that a piece of music may be unacceptable due to offensive language, the competitor
can apply for permission, from the Head Judge, to replace it.
2.11 Entry Fees
Entry fees can be found on the FISAF Australia website (www.fisafaustralia.com.au) under
the Events Tab.
2.12 Refunds
A full refund will be given for withdrawals prior to the closing date for entries.
Withdrawals 21 or more days prior to the event will incur an administration fee.
Withdrawals any closer to the event or 'no shows' on the event day will not receive a
refund.
Payments must be received no later than 14 days after entry cut off date. If full payment is
not received the athlete/team will be unable to perform.

NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL STREAM
3.1 Compulsory Moves
The following compulsory moves form the basis of competitive aerobics which display
technique, flexibility and strength.
Each competitor MUST include in their routine four consecutive, stationary and identical
repetitions of the following three exercises:
1. Jumping Jacks (different arms allowed)
2. Alternating High Leg Kicks (different arms allowed)
3. Push Ups (different leg movements allowed)
Teams must do the compulsory AND obligatory moves all together, in unison and facing the
same direction.

4 in a row with no other exercises or rests in between. Must be a continuous
movement and you must not travel or turn.
You must start and finish with your arms straight
Minimum level of flexion is 90 degrees at the elbow joint in either a

Your hands must stay on the floor in the start position all the time and should

Head Judge
The Head Judge will oversee the judging panel and is the highest technical authority at FISAF
Australia competition. The Head Judge does not submit a score but is responsible for
ensuring consistent and fair application of the Technical Regulations by the judging panel
and overseeing the correct implementation of the judging systems and the tabulation of
results. If required, the head judge can score.
Technical Judge
The Technical Judge will apply a score for each routine, after considering the technical
criteria in comparison to all other routines. The ranking of a routine will be derived from a
score out of 10.
Artistic Judge
The Artistic Judge will apply a score for each routine, after considering the artistic criteria in
comparison to all other routines. The ranking of a routine will be derived from a score out
of 10.
Aerobic Judge
The Aerobic Judge will apply a score for each routine, after considering the aerobic criteria
in comparison to all other routines. The ranking of a routine will be derived from a score
out of 10. In the case of a tie, the lead aerobic judges’ ranking will decide the final rank.

5. SCORING AND RANKING
The goal of the ranking system is to determine the winner by the majority of placing’s given
by the judging panel, rather than an addition of scores. For example using a 7 judge panel:
Competitor A: 4 judges have 1st place / 3 judges have 2nd place
Competitor B: 3 judges have 1st place / 4 judges have 2nd place
Competitor A is the winner.
The tabulation system will find the competitor/team with the most first places then the
most second and third etc, to determine the final ranking.
Application of Scores and Ranks
Each scoring judge will consider their specific criteria to determine a score out of 10 points
representing a competitor’s/team’s performance. From this score, a rank for each judge is
derived. The total ranks applied by all judges for each competitor/team, will determine the
placing of the teams for the competition. The competitor/team with the best ranking will
be determined the winner.
5.1 Technical Criteria
Execution is the main focus. – This is how well you perform every move you have in your
routine. Moves should be safe and precise showing good form, ease of movement, good
posture and control. The compulsory exercises will provide the baseline for scoring.
Strength – Your compulsory push ups will give a baseline score which you can increase
performing extra push-ups and or static strength moves. Power which is strength and speed
together, can be shown in transitions and aerial moves. Strength can be displayed in the
upper and lower body as well as the right and left sides.
Flexibility – Your compulsory high leg kicks will give a baseline score which you can increase
by doing other flexibility moves. Try to show a balance of flexibility in a large range of joints,
such as the hip.
Please note that teams should be synchronised and will be assessed as a single unit,
therefore each member should exhibit similar strength, flexibility and ability.

5.2 Artistic Criteria
Choreography – This is about creativity, originality and innovative selection of aerobic
movements patterns with unpredictable sequencing. Arm lines are important and need as
much attention as foot patterns. Individual style and the use of the whole stage will
enhance a score. Teams should utilise each other to create many formations while staying
close together to allow movement as one unit. If you constantly go out of the 7 x 7m area,
you may be penalised for safety reasons.
Music Interpretation – Your routine should fit your piece of music and yours only. Use the
natural structure and phrasing of the music which incorporates highs and lows, rhythms,
vocals, instruments, pre choruses, choruses and counter tempos. In the case of teams, it is
important to stay in time with the music as well as each other. Music should be motivating
and energetic so we suggest the music speed to be no slower than 148 beat per minute. If
your music is outside the required length stated, your score may be reduced.
Presentation – This is about generating excitement, projecting confidence and
communicating positive emotions by using physical gestures and facial expressions
throughout the entire performance. Teams should acknowledge that they have team
members and display interaction with each other. Presentation is also determined by the
competitor’s appearance and attire which should be clean and tidy. A score will be reduced
where attire does not meet the following criteria:
Costumes may be one piece leotards, or a two piece bikini style. Bootleg pants and
bikini tops or singlets are also acceptable.
You may not discard any item of clothing or accessory during the performance
Bike pants or tights must be worn under all leotards or two piece costumes (boy’s
exempt)
The outfit should reflect the sporting nature of competitive aerobics rather than
being too theatrical (eg: skirts, too many sequins, dresses, feathers, tassels etc)
G-string leotards are not permitted
Wristbands and unobtrusive strapping is permitted
For maximum points, outfits should be styled so the judges can see ‘form’
Short and T-Shirts may be worn provided they are not too baggy
A good supporting aerobic shoe must be worn (white is recommended)
Props are not allowed such as gloves, musical instruments, scarves etc
You must wear adequate body support
Jewellery is not allowed
Long hair should be off the face and tied back with no hair accessories or hats.
Headbands and excessive sequins/diamantes in the hair are not acceptable.

Subtle glitter on the face and hair is allowed.
No body oil or paint is permitted
No bulky wrist supports (such as foam blocks) are permitted
Costumes must not be too brief and must be appropriately concealing.
5.3 Aerobic Criteria
Appropriate – Ultimately the performance must reflect the ‘aerobic’ basis of sport aerobics.
The majority of the choreography should be high impact, aerobic content.
Intensity – Judges will consider the athletes ability to maintain a high level of intensity by
using a large range of sport aerobic movements, together with full coverage of the stage
area, floor, standing and aerial space. A cardiovascular effect should be shown throughout
the entire routine.
Complexity – Choreography should show complex patterns in the upper and lower body at
the same time. The more muscles you use at one time, will also add to the intensity of a
routine. You should show good quality and speed of leg and arm movements together with
the ability to transition smoothly and quickly. Note an overall high standard of performance
will enhance an aerobic score.

7. HIP HOP REGULATIONS
7.1 Introduction
Hip Hop culture originated in New York amongst young Hispanic and African American
communities during the late 1960’s. Synonymous with rap, scratch music and graffiti art,
the style encompasses the movements of break-dancing and body-popping, and has been
internationally recognised since the 1970’s.
The 1980’s saw the emergence of a new style of hip hop into rap videos, distinguishing from
original break dancing styles by it concentration on footwork as opposed to acrobatics.
Hereafter, the emergence of house music saw hip hop re-invent itself again with a broader
range of influences and freer expression.
Today funk and hip hop have many individualised styles. The blending of music styles and
dance moves influenced by many factors which are then personalised by a choreographer,
makes it possible to define Funk and Hip Hop styles unambiguously.

7.5 Formation Changes
To enhance your score, there should be variation and formation changes that create a visual
image throughout your routine. This means you need to change positions with each other
often to show interaction and to create new formations.
7.6 Performance Length
Performance length is 2 minutes with 5 seconds either side. Timing will begin with the first
audible sound and will end with the last audible sound (this would include a cueing beep if
used).
