DON’T • “Bury” the most important information in a long press release. • Send or fax your press release to the wrong department. • Call too often; one follow-up call is good. • Send the release the day before the event (except in the case of breaking news). • Send the release more than three weeks in advance. • Try to write the story for us; send the basic information only. • Use jargon that would be confusing to someone outside your area of expertise. 27 Details for press releases Contact Information: _________________________________________________________________ Date: ______________________________________________________________________________ Company Name: _____________________________________________________________________ Address:___________________________________________________________________________ Phone #: ___________________________________________________________________________ Contact Name: _________________________ Alternate Contact Name: _________________________ Daytime Phone #: _______________________ Daytime Phone #: ______________________________ Alternate Phone #: ______________________ Alternate Phone #: ______________________________ Be sure to include area code with phone numbers.
