A touch of Italian style in Amboise
It is often said that Amboise has the most Italian flair of all the
Loire Valley cities. The presence of many tourists from the other
side of the Alps is a cheerful reminder of what the Italian Renaissance brought to the area five centuries ago. Amboise is a serene,
easygoing town, true to the image of splendor that characterized
that blessed era. Pedestrians will appreciate the shopping areas as well as the esplanades located along the docks of the Loire, the best place to
take in fantastic views of the river. Must-see attractions in the area
include the royal castle, Clos-Lucé (where Leonardo da Vinci spent
his last days), and the Chanteloup pagoda.
The city is also home to one of the largest markets in the area,
every Friday and Sunday morning.

This emblematic monument and its landscaped
gardens offer one of the most remarkable panoramas of the Loire valley, and are registered as a
World Heritage site by the UNESCO. Each visit
offers a different point of view over the French
history: its political and artistic importance within
Europe in the Renaissance; intimate moments in
the sovereigns’ lives, daily life at the Court and
behind the scenes.

A LA COUR DU ROY / F7
Relive 90 minutes of the grandeur of the court of
François I, Claude de France and Leonardo da
Vinci in the magnificent setting of the Château
d’Amboise. Since 1976 this great show has been
seen by more than 800,000 enthusiast spectators
of all ages and nationalities. Children’s games,
village scenes, equestrian scenes, the luxuries of
the court, and Renaissance dances are featured
against the backdrop of history. With 450 participants and over 1000 costumes, this event offers
spectacular lighting, music, and fireworks as well
as image projections and fountains; « La Cour du
Roy » awaits you.

The Château du Clos Lucé – Parc Leonardo da
Vinci is open all year round, every day non-stop
(except December 25th and January 1st). The
park display is available in its entirety throughout
high season (from March 15th 2012 to November
15th 2012).

It was at the Château du Clos Lucé, on the invitation of François I that Leonardo da Vinci lived for
the last three years of his life, devoting his time to
perfecting his inventions. Prolific and inspired, he
worked as an engineer, architect and even entertainments director, organizing sumptuous festivities for the Court. In his residence, just 300 meters
from the Château Royal, he drew up plans for a
model château for François I in Romorantin and
designed the double helix staircase in Chambord.
The Château du Clos Lucé is now a cultural park
where visitors can get a better insight into the Italian Master’s universe. Located in the middle of

PAGODE DE CHANTELOUP
The Pagode de Chanteloup, an 18th century‘s folly, in the middle of the châteaux of the Loire Valley,
is the witness of the Duke of Choiseul’s domain.
Virtual reconstruction images allow you to relive
the splendor of the castle, destroyed in 1823.
From the top of the Pagoda, 44 meters high, you
will enjoy an awe-inspiring panoramic view of the
Loire Valley and the Forest of Amboise.
In the 35 acre park, come and discover the fun of
« old-fashioned » outdoor games, taste the delights of a country picnic, enjoy the quaint Chinese
garden which invites you to meditate or take a romantic boat ride on the ornamental lake.

Vignobles & Découvertes Label
The Vignobles et Découvertes label launched in 2009 by the French tourism authority quickly emphasized the established wine-producing nature of one holiday destination in Touraine :
“Val de Loire – Amboise”.
3 AOCs are celebrated here during the twenty or so wine events each year: Vouvray, Touraine-Amboise,
Touraine-Mesland. Along with the 24 «tourist cellars» wine cellars where the troglodyte world is very
present, several fascinating sites are worth a visit, such as the Royal Castle of Amboise, Clos Lucé
(where Leonardo da Vinci spent his last years) the Chanteloup pagoda and the Valmer gardens.
Also of interest: the Loire à Vélo cycling trail is perfect for pleasant excursions ! Touraine Amboise: White, Rosé or Red Wine
Amboise Blanc
Fresh and citrus fruits develop into quince and honey when it is made into an off-dry or sweet wine.
Rather supple and sometimes very chunky on the palate, with fine tannins.
Fresh and balanced finish.

Supple and fresh, reminiscent of cherries or redcurrants.

The Gamay-Cabernet-Côt blend is presented under the name of the “Cuvée François Ier”,
