The trail consists of 50 km of marked trekking routes. The Birgitta Trail was named the best trekking route in Finland in 2006. The route offers a variety of rocky and smooth paths, thick forest and clear-cut areas, as well as grassy areas and jogging paths. Hundreds of metres of duckboards and dozens of footbridges facilitate trekking in the marshy sections of the trail. There are plenty of opportunities for taking a break and making a camp ire along the path. The trekking route has a Lempäälä good network of signposts and also several information boards and sites for overnight camping. There are a few lean-tos, dugouts and a hut along the route. Every now and then, the ever-changing forest landscapes shift to breathtaking views of the lakes. You can choose the starting point and the length of the route yourself. The trail is partly located close to populated areas, so whether you come to the area by bus, train or car, it is easy to go trekking. With the help of a map you can ind the route that best suits your abilities; there are easy, medium and hard routes. The Birgitta trail is popular among the scouts as many sections of the route are child-friendly. The Birgitta Trail offers enough challenge even for experienced hikers. Located in the Tampere city region, it enjoys quick and smooth transport connections and has nearly 23,000 residents. Lempäälä is, in accordance with its mission statement, “an independent municipality offering comfortable living and good services – a place where the countryside meets the city.” A distinctive feature of this municipality established in 1866 is its centre, which is located on an island. With a landscape enlivened by lakes, rapids and a channel, Lempäälä offers an attractive environment for tourists and summer residents.
