TMC govt cracks down
on ‘Narayani Sena’,
bans training camps in
Cooch Behar district
Kolkata: In a major crackdown
on the ‘Narayani Sena’, a private
army of the erstwhile Maharaja
of Coochbehar, the Trinamool
Congress government on Wednesday
banned all training centres where its
volunteers were given arms training.
According to reports, the move
comes a day after TMC accused
the central government of trying
to disrupt smooth functioning of
the state government. The party alo
alleged that the BSF was providing
“training” to ‘Narayani Sena’,
a private army of the erstwhile
Maharaja of Coochbehar. The BSF,
however, denied the allegation
and termed it as “baseless”. “It is
a deep-rooted conspiracy against
the state government. How come
BSF is giving training to Narayani
Sena and other elements who are
involved in smuggling?” senior
TMC leader and state parliamentary
affairs minister Partha Chatterjee
had told reporters. “We have
officially expressed our grievances
and lodged a complaint.

The hardest-hit towns were
Amatrice and Accumoli
near Rieti, some 100

region into Umbria and
Le Marche on the Adriatic

were sufficiently strong to

New Delhi : Congress vice
president Rahul Gandhi took a
complete U-turn on Wednesday
over his reported statement in
which he had allegedly blamed
the Rashtriya Swayamsewak
Sangh for Mahatma Gandhi’s
assassination.
Appearing
on behalf of Rahul Gandhi,
noted lawyer Kapil Sibal told
the Supreme Court that his
client never blamed RSS as an
institution, but those associated
with it who killed Mahatma
Gandhi. “Rahul Gandhi had
never accused RSS as an
institution for the crime,’’ Sibal
reiterated. Senior counsel Sibal

Sanghatana have announced they would

demanding the state government to
regulate operation of cab aggregators
such as Uber and Ola. “We have lost
hopes from the state government and
the chief minister, who did not fulfil his
promise to come up with rules or Act to
regulate these app-based aggregators,
who are eating into our money and
passengers,” president of this relatively
new association Balasahab Sanap said.
“Now, we are left with no another option
but to resort to indefinite strike. We gave
government ample time to look into our
demands...it did nothing but only made
fake promises,” he said. Sanap claimed
that over 95 per cent taxi and autorickshaw

New Delhi: The Supreme
Court on Wednesday refused
to lift restrictions on 20 feet
high human pyramids during
the Dahi Handi festival,
which will be held across
the country tomorrow. The
apex court, while refusing
to reconsider the petitions in
this regard, termed it highly
‘risky’ any move to raise the
height of human pyramids.
The order was passed by a
bench comprising justices
AR Dave, UU Lalit and L
Nageswara Rao. The apex
court passed its order on the
Maharashtra government`s
plea in connection with the
issue of human pyramids in
the Dahi Handi fest.
The
Maharashtra
Government had moved
the apex court on August
3, seeking a clarification
regarding the height of human
pyramids for the celebrations
after the Bombay High Court
last week pulled up the
government for its failure
to obtain clarification from
the apex court in this regard.
The fresh plea in this regard
had been filed by Mumbaibased Jai Jawan Krida
Mandal Govinda Pathak.
The organisation contented
that since youth below 18
years of age have been barred
from participating in the
Dahi Handi ritual, the cap
on the height of the human
pyramid should be relaxed
as adventure is part of every
sport. If there is no adventure
in a game, then there is no
point in celebrating it, the
Krida Mandal had argued.
