IC Rounded w/Rib & Flare I-Shields come with flared edges and ribs machined into each part. The flared edges help the I-Shield from cutting into the pipe insulation which damages the vapor barrier. The 180° Ribs aid in the alignment of the I-Shield. They ensure the I-Shield is placed directly below the hanger and help to alleviate the I-Shield slipping out of place with pipe movement. The Rounded edge prevents the I-Shield from cutting into the vapor barrier. It is suggested that wood I-Blocks be used along with the I-Shield to guarantee the Rounded Edge I-Shield Features: proper support. (see IC Wood I-Block Product Data Sheet) w/ Rib & Flare, Flared & No Flare (Straight) FEATURES ? Rouned Edge - To prevent corner of I-Shield from cutting into vapor barrier during installation. Adds ease to separating I-Shields and removing them from the package. ? Flared Edge - To prevent the I-Shield from cutting into pipe insulation when applying and to add structural strength ? Ribs - To help secure I-Shield in place over the hanger and to alleviate the I-Shield slipping out of place with pipe movement. They also add structural strength. ? Each I-Shield marked with its outside diameter measurement - along with IC charts this guarantees the proper size I-Shield is used. ? Heavy Duty Packaging with clear labeling - Improved, stronger packaging with label providing detailed information on diameter, gauge, length, and pieces per carton. APPLICATIONS INSULATION COMPONENTS I-Shields are made for use on plumbing and HVAC mechanical piping systems with temperatures ranging from -120i to +500i F. IC I-Shields are ideal for use on medium and low compressive strength pipe insulations and insulations which have a vapor barrier which is either field or factory applied. Such insulations include but are not limited to: rubber, polyethylene, fiberglass, urethane, Styrofoam and calcium silicate. NOTE: When applied with the correct wood I-Block (See IC Wood I-Block Product Data Sheet) IC I-Shields are made to withstand 5 PSI compressive strength on a maximum span of 10 linear feet. RECOMMENDED INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Begin by lifting the appropriately sized IC I-Shield upward towards the insulated pipe to just outside the hanger location. Proceed by sliding the I-Shield underneath the hanger until the hanger is in the middle of the I-Shield. ENGINEERING GUIDE SPECIFICATION WHEREVER PIPE INSULATION PASSES THROUGH A HANGER LOCATION, THE IC GALVANIZED STEEL I-SHIELD SHALL BE INSTALLED. ALSO EACH I-SHIELD SHALL BE MARKED BY THE O.D. Elbows are produced to fit NPS & tubing sizes for industrial applications ranging in temperature from 0ºF to 450ºF, (-18ºC to 232ºC). IC 90/45 elbows have excellent thermal and acoustical performance with lowering operating costs. FEATURES ? Density: between 3.0 lb./cu. Ft. ? Water absorption: <2% by weight at 120º F (49ºC) ? Shrinkage/expansion: None. Dimensionally stable ? Temperature application: From -20° to +650° F. ? Surface burning characteristics: (ASTM E 84 Test Method) ? Flame spread: 25 or less/ Smoke Developed: 50 or less ? Specifications: Insulation ASTM C 612 Type IA and IB New York City MEA No. 227-83 CAN/CGSB-51.10-Type I, Class I ? All units are Asbestos-free and are 100% made and assembled in the U.S.A. APPLICATIONS ? Two-piece, routed design minimizes guesswork in estimates of labor and fitting costs. ? All L.R. Weld Elbows fit standard aluminum & plastic covers. ? New design SR Screwed Style Elbows are designed to fit aluminum and plastic covers. ? Fabricated insulators are designed to insulate heating, cooling, or process piping systems. ? The I-Fittings are applied by placing two premolded matching half-sections over the pipe fitting, and joining them together using tape, wire, or adhesive (applied to the seams). After being joined, the fitting insulator is ready for jacketing, vapor barrier coating, or other finishes. FORMS AVAILABLE: ? All pipe sizes are based on ASTM C585 ? IC 90/45’s are available in single layer. ? Sizes range from 1/2” to 24” pipe.
