AJB plays a vital role in the combined (local, state, and
federal) public, labor exchange system.
„ AJB provides online capabilities for 21 States and territories that wish to avoid
the cost of developing their own online job boards, through the provision of AJBhosted, state sites.
„ AJB makes a very large selection of jobs available to any State that wants to
download them.

On average, in PY02, there were 927,000 active jobs available.
„ AJB crosses political boundaries to address local multi-state labor markets.
•
Users are able to search for jobs within a specified radius of any zip code so that listings in
bordering states may be included.
„ AJB serves large national employers looking for workers region-wide or
nationwide.
•
AJB has made accommodations for over 200 large employers to upload their job directories
(different businesses using different formats) directly into AJB.
„ AJB has name recognition and can serve as a known entry point into the public
workforce investment system for job seekers and employers who may be
unaware of state and local systems.
•
292,000 employers are registered directly on AJB. In PY02, these businesses posted 5.5
million job openings
•
4.3 million job seekers are currently registered with AJB.
AJB is the 5th most active job board in the nation according to comScore/MediaMetrix.
This traffic volume exposes jobs uploaded from the states to larger numbers of people,
increasing the chance that qualified job seekers will apply for them, giving employercustomers better choices in individuals they can hire.

The state gateway link on AJB’s homepage sends visitors to pages that display state
workforce development information, allowing states to leverage AJB traffic as a means of
increasing traffic to their sites. In just nine months of PY02, there were over 650,000
visits made to these pages.

AJB, unlike private sites, ensures adequate protection of its customers by
complying with all federal regulations and guidance: in posting jobs, in
highlighting veteran applicants, in accommodating people with disabilities and in
safeguarding individual’s personal information.

AJB, part of the CareerOneStop package:
Ø Connects users to a wide array of easily accessible, national-level labor market
information.
Ø Provides a set of user-friendly workforce tools for both employers and job
seekers.
Ø Refers users to detailed information about local One Stops and other services
through America’s Service Locator (4 million times in PY02)
„ AJB offers economies-of-scale that cannot be replicated in each state.

According to a 2001 study, the future success of online job boards is dependent
on their size and ability to grow.
§
AJB offers a greater depth and variety of jobs than any State site can alone
provide.
Ø By touching employers that would otherwise not come in contact with the
public workforce investment system, the breadth and types of jobs available
to state websites and their customers is substantially enhanced.
§
AJB has the ability to develop large-scale functional improvements that benefit
the entire system.
Ø Products currently available to states include the O*Net Code Connector and
the Job Description Writer, with others to come.
Ø Current high-level projects include developing: a “skills profiler” tool that
connects skill sets that employers need with those resulting from education
and training, and real-time, nationwide, local-level LMI products using the
resources of AJB’s transactions (historical) database.
