CONFESSION SCHEDULE/Horario de Confesión
Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time—September 04, 2016
You have to do your own growing no matter how tall your grandfather was.
- Abraham Lincoln
Welcome To Our Parish!
If you and your family are new to the area and wish
to become members of Sacred Heart of Jesus
Church, or have attended our church but have not
yet registered, we welcome and invite you to pick
up a New Parishioner Registration Form. These
forms are available in the church foyer or the
parish office. The parish office is located in the
Parish Life Center. You can drop off the
completed form at the parish office, mail, or
simply place it in the Sunday collection basket.
Thank you and welcome to our Parish family!
TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading — Who can ever know God’s counsel
unless God gives wisdom and sends the Holy Spirit from
on high? (Wisdom 9:13-18b).
Psalm — In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge
(Psalm 90).
Second Reading — Paul asks Philemon to accept back
his slave Onesimus, not as a slave but as a brother
(Philemon 9-10, 12-17).
Gospel — To be a disciple of Jesus one must carry one’s
own cross and renounce all possessions (Luke 14:25-33).
23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time:
September 4th
That we may come to realize everything we have is
a gift from God and we are called to generously
share these gifts. “Everyone of you who does not
renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.” Luke
14:33 When we first hear this statement, it seems that Jesus is
making an unrealistic demand upon us. How can we renounce
all of our possessions? We need them to live. However, what
we must renounce is the belief that they belong to us. Everything that we have belongs to God alone. All of our resources
are entrusted to us not only for our own use, but also so that
we can help others. Once we renounce the idea that we possess or are entitled to anything, it is much easier to share the
many gifts that God has given us. Then we truly are His
Disciples.
Vocation Prayer
Oh God, Who wish all men to be saved and to come to
the knowledge of Your truth send, we beg You, laborers into Your harvest, and grant them grace to speak
Your words with all boldness; so that Your word may
spread and be glorified, and all nations may know
You, the only God, and Him Whom You have sent,
Jesus Christ Your Son, Our Lord, Who lives and reigns
world without end. Amen.

— Abraham Lincoln
¡Bienvenidos a Nuestra Parroquia!
cualquier domingo. ¡Gracias y bienvenidos a
nuestra familia Parroquial!
¿Cómo podemos renunciar a todas nuestras posesiones?
sólo a Dios.
Dios, y a Él a quien Tú has mandado, Jesús Cristo Tú hijo,
