Garden News at Uncanoonuc: Last summer we continued work on the Rose Garden. (Photos are
posted on our Facebook page.) An 80’ long, gorgeous, white wooden fence for climbers was installed.
It features a central pergola which will shelter a swing. We planted several varieties of roses,
some special honeysuckle and clematis as well as two dwarf pears which will be espaliered. Fragrant
‘Hidcote’ lavender hedges line the entry and main paths. This summer we hope to fill the beds with
roses of all colors, some choice perennials including Dianthus and our favorite annual, vanilla scented
Heliotrope. It's a dream coming true...

ANTIQUE ROSES Extremely hardy, old-fashioned, and disease
resistant, these beauties thrive without pampering.
**‘Ballerina’ Rose: This Hybrid Musk is a cloud of blossoms single, light bright pink with white centers. (Think apple
blossoms. Lots of them.) Delicate looking but tough.

at Ames, Dr. Buck introduced a line of unique American shrub roses. He bred hardier, disease

**‘Country Dancer’ Rose: Forms a 3’ x 3’ shrub covered with glossy, dark green foliage.
Has the same iron constitution and long blooming season of all the Buck roses. Clusters
