NCAA Tournament... The 2015-16 RIT Tigers are the
defending Atlantic Hockey Conference champions for the
second time in program history at the Division I level. The
Tigers are coming off of a 20-15-5 season in which they
won eight games in a row down the stretch, including the
conference title, and became the first 16-seed to knock off a
No. 1 overall seed, when they beat Minnesota State 2-1 on
March 28. RIT was one period away from their second trip
to the Frozen Four, entering the third period of the Midwest
Regional Final vs. Nebraska Omaha scoreless before falling by
a score of 4-0.
Exhibition Opener a Great Success... The Tigers posted a
convincing victory against the University of Ontario Institute
of Technology, winning 9-1 on Saturday. Liam Kerins led
the way with a hat-trick, scoring his three goals in the first
two periods of play. Greg Amlong added a goal and led the
team with three assists for a four-point night. Alexander
Kuqali scored a goal and added an assist. Miles Powell, Brady
Norrish, Chase Norrish, and Garrett McMullen also added
goals to complete the scoring. Todd Skirving and Max
Mikowski each had two assists, and Brad Shumway, Gabe
Valenzula, Abbott Girduckis, and Michael Holland each
recorded an assist for the Tigers. Mike Rotolo picked up the
decision, stopped all 18 shots he faced in 40 minutes of play.
The Tigers outshot the Ridgebacks 46-25. They converted on
special teams, going 4-for-8 on the power-play.

2015-16 Captains... Seniors Alexander Kuqali, Andrew Miller, St. Lawrence leads series 9-5-0
and Josh Mitchell and Andrew Miller will serve as captains,
while sophomore Brady Norrish is an assistant captain in
2015-16. Both Kuqali and Miller were assistant captains a year ago, while Mitchell and Norrish stepped up
into major leadership roles last year.
Something About Saturday... RIT is 10-0-1 on Saturday over the last 11 contests, stretching back to last
season. The Tigers last lost on a Saturday, 3-2 in overtime to nationally-ranked Minnesota at Mariucci Arena
on Jan. 3, 2015.
Unbelievable Fan Support at Blue Cross Arena/All-Time at BCA... RIT will host Bowling Green State
university at Blue Cross Arena as part of RIT’s Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend on Oct. 17
and expects to sell it out for the sixth straight season. Limited tickets still remain. RIT has also sold out
Blue Cross Arena for this contest last year against Boston College, in 2013 vs. Michigan, 2012 against
Penn State, 2011 vs. St. Lawrence, and 2010 vs. UMass Lowell. RIT is now 6-10-1 all-time at Blue Cross
Arena, including a 2-5-1 in eight previous Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend contests after
losing to Boston College last season.
The Returning Offense... Up front, RIT returns 10 forwards from last season. Josh Mitchell will look to
build off his incredible 2014-15 season, where he was tied for third nationally with 36 assists and sixth with
52 points. Andrew Miller will look to enjoy a big senior season after recording eight goals in 2014-15. He
is a valuable penalty-killer, who can play in any role. Classmate Dan Schuler, who led RIT with 13 goals in
2013-14, will look to have a tremendous final year after missing most of last season due to injury. Juniors
Caleb Cameron and Danny Smith return after each recording 15 points last season and will both be counted
on to play an even greater role this season. Classmate Todd Skirving, who had 22 points as a freshman, will
be looked upon to play a top line role, while fellow junior Garrett McMullen returns after scoring four goals
in 2014-15. Sophomores Myles Powell, Mark Golberg, and Max
RIT Division I Season Openers
Mikowski all gained valuable experience in 2014-15.

Season Openers… RIT is 2-7-1 in regular season openers at the Division I level, with the
lone wins coming at No. 3 Michigan in 2012 and home vs. St. Lawrence last season. This will
be RIT’s sixth regular season opener on the road in 11 Division I seasons. RIT is 2-8-0 in
regular season road openers at the Division I level.
Single Season Marks Fall in 2014-15... Matt Garbowsky’s 54 points shattered the previous
RIT DI single-season record of 51, held by Simon Lambert in 2007-08. Garbowsky’s 26 goals
were tied for the second most in one year at the Division I level, one shy of the mark of 27,
held by Matt Smith in 2007-08. Josh Mitchell’s 36 assists shattered the single-season RIT
record, held by Andrew Favot in 2009-10. Mitchell’s 52 points were second in one season.
Brad McGowan’s 23 goals were third most in one season. Garbowsky’s five-game winners are
also tied for second most in one year.
RIT’s Tough Looking Non-Conference Schedule for 2015-16/Last Year Prepared Them
Well... The Tigers as of right now, play five of their six non-conference regular season contests
against teams who are ranked in the USCHO.com national poll, including No. 1 Boston
College, No. 16 Bowling Green, No. 19 St. Lawrence, and No. 20 Colgate (twice). Last season,
RIT competed against three NCAA teams in non-conference play during the regular season,
including the regular season and postseason Big Ten Champion (Minnesota), second (Boston
College) and fourth place (Lowell) teams in Hockey East, and second (St. Lawrence) and
third place (Yale) teams in the ECAC.
Upcoming Milestones... Josh Mitchell enters the 2015-16 season 15 points shy of 100 for his
career. He is also 10th all-time at the university in assists (60) at the Division I level and is 12
away from the top-five.
Tigers Tightened up Defensively Last Season... The Tigers had struggled defensively in 201213 and 2013-14, finishing 51st and 53rd nationally out of 59 teams in goals allowed per game.
Last season, RIT finished 18th, allowing 2.36 goals per game, one goal fewer than in each of the
last two seasons. The Tigers allowed just 15 goals over their final nine games and 2.00 goals per
game over the last 20 contests.
On This Date... RIT is 0-1-0 all-time on Oct. 9 and 1-3-0 on Oct. 10. RIT lost to the
University of Nebraska Omaha, 5-3 on Oct. 9, 2010. Last year, the Tigers defeated St.
Lawrence, 5-2 on Oct. 10 in the regular season opener at the Gene Polisseni Center in front of
3,103 fans. Alexander Kuqali and Brad McGowan scored a pair of goals each for the Tigers.
Tigers in Overtime at Division I Level... Overall, RIT is 17-11-42 in overtime games at the
Division I level, including a 1-2-5 mark in 2014-15 and 6-3 record in the postseason. RIT had
a run of 26 straight contests (9-0-17) spanning more than three years without losing in the
extra session, from Oct. 30, 2009 to Dec. 2, 2012. The Tigers have not lost a home overtime
game since falling to Air Force, 2-1 on Nov. 9, 2007. Myles Powell is the only active Tiger to
score an overtime game-winner, doing so on Feb. 28, 2015 vs. Mercyhurst. It was the first OT
winner at the Polisseni Center.
Abt Invited to Toronto Maple Leafs Prospect Camp... Sophomore defenseman Matt Abt
competed in the Toronto Maple Leafs prospect development camp in July. An Atlantic Hockey
Championship All-Tournament Team selection, had two goals and seven assists in 33 games
during his freshman season.
Atlantic Hockey Preseason Coaches Poll Announced… The Tigers were picked to finish
second in the 2014-15 Atlantic Hockey Association preseason poll, as voted on by the
conference’s coaches. Last season’s regular season champion and tournament semifinalist,
Robert Morris, is the top pick in the preseason poll, with seven first place votes and 97 total
points. RIT received four first place votes and 91 points, while Bentley is third with 72 points.
Canisius was picked to finish fourth by the coaches, with 64 points. Sacred Heart is next with
56 points in fifth, while Holy Cross is sixth, right behind with 55 points, while Air Force
checks in with 47 points. The bottom four of the standings sees Mercyhurst in eighth with 46
points, Niagara ninth with 38 points and Army tenth with 29 points. Rounding out the 2015-16
preseason poll is American International in 11th with 10 points.
Slow Starters... The Tigers have become accustomed to getting off to slow starts at the
Division I level, going 18-35-6 all-time in October in nine previous seasons, including a
14-32-6 mark since the 2006-07 season. In 2009-10, the Tigers got off to an 0-5 start, but
rebounded to go 28-7-1 the rest of the way and make their unforgettable run to the Frozen
Four. RIT has finished .500 or better in October just twice in nine Division I seasons.
(2005-06 and 2006-07). RIT was 0-3-2 in October in 2013-14 and went 2-4-0 last season.
Tigers Struggle Away From AHC... RIT is just 15-42-6 against non-AHC foes since the start
of the 2006-07 season. RIT was 2-6 last season. The Tigers have never had a winning season
against non-conference foes since moving to Division I in 2005.
All-Time Against Nationally-Ranked Opponents... After defeating Minnesota State, falling to
Boston College, Lowell, Nebraska-Omaha, and Minnesota, while splitting with Robert Morris in
2014-15, RIT is 13-20-2 all-time against nationally-ranked teams in the top-20 of the USCHO.
com Division I poll. RIT had its streak of beating a nationally-ranked team halted in 2013-14.
The Tigers won two games against nationally-ranked teams in 2007-08, 2009-10, and 2011-12.
According to the USCHO.com preseason poll, RIT currently plays five games against teams
ranked in the top-20, including No. 19 St. Lawrence this weekend and No. 16 Bowling Green
next weekend.
Giant Killers... The Tigers defeated a nationally-ranked team in each of its first eight Division I
seasons, and nine of 10 seasons overall. Last season’s win over Minnesota State was the first for
RIT over a team ranked No. 1 in Division I. Denver was ranked No. 2 when RIT skated to the
2-1 win in the 2010 NCAA East Region Semifinal. In addition, New Hampshire was No. 12
when RIT won 6-2 to advance to the 2010 Frozen Four. On, Dec. 6, 2008, the Tigers knocked
off No. 10 Air Force, 3-2 in overtime. In 2007-08, the Tigers defeated then No. 18 Cornell at
BCA and No. 12 Minnesota at Mariucci Arena. In 2006-07 RIT went on the road and beat No.
18 Quinnipiac. In 2005-06 No. 18 St. Lawrence came into Ritter Arena as one of the highest
scoring teams in the NCAA. Thanks to a NCAA regulation record-tying 66 saves from Jocelyn
Guimond the Tigers beat the Saints 3-2. In 2010-11, RIT defeated then No. 15 Cornell, 5-3.
The Tigers knocked off No. 11 Ferris State 3-1 and No. 16 Lake Superior State, 3-0 to win the
2011 Catamount Cup. On Oct. 12, 2012, RIT won at No. 3 Michigan 5-4. That is the highest

Head Coach - Wayne Wilson
Wayne Wilson enters his 17th season as head coach of the RIT men’s
hockey team in 2015-16 and has guided the Tigers to a 302-18054 record. On June 4, 2015, Wilson signed a seven-year contract
extension that runs through the 2021-22 season.
In 2014-15, Wilson led the Tigers to their second Atlantic
Hockey Conference Championship, and second trip to the NCAA
Division I Tournament, where RIT would advance to the Midwest
Regional Final. RIT knocked off the No. 1 team in the country for
the first time, defeating Minnesota State in the NCAA Midwest
Regional Semifinal. RIT won eight straight games late in the season,
finishing 20-15-3.
Last season, Wilson coached Matt Garbowsky, RIT’s second
finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, college hockey’s finest honor. He
was also named a 2015 CCM Hockey Second Team All-American,
USCHO.com second team pick, and Atlantic Hockey Player of the Year. He signed a professional contract
with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League for the 2015-16 season.
The Guelph, Ontario, native has led the Tigers to a stellar 177-125-40 record since the start of the
2006-07 season, including a 141-73-34 mark all-time in Atlantic Hockey play. RIT won four AHC regular
season championships in a five-year span (2007, 2009, 2010, 2011) and advanced to three straight AHC
Championship games from 2010-12.
Wilson enjoyed a magical year behind the bench in 2009-10. He, along with the Tigers, accrued a bevy of
individual and team accomplishments, including the Spencer Penrose Award as Division I National Coach
of the Year. Wilson became the first coach to win the National Coach of the Year at both the Division I and
Division III levels. He led RIT to its first Atlantic Hockey Championship, and a spot in the NCAA Division I
Tournament. The Tigers captured the attention of the country as they made their historic run to the Frozen
Four, playing in front of 34,954 fans at Ford Field in Detroit. RIT finished the season with a school record 28
wins, including a 12-game winning streak from Feb. 12 to March 27. The Tigers finished the season ranked
No. 10 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine National Poll, and were as high as ninth.
On Oct. 30, 2009, Wilson became the all-time leader in coaching wins at RIT, picking up his 189th victory
in a 6-2 win over Connecticut. On Jan. 15, 2010, Wilson recorded his 200th win, as RIT blanked Connecticut,
4-0. Wilson became the first RIT coach to amass 300 wins in a 2-1 victory over Canisius on March 20, 2015.
In 10 seasons of Division I play, Wilson has led the Tigers to several victories over nationally ranked teams.
In addition to last season’s win over top-ranked Minnesota State, RIT recorded wins over No. 2 Denver, and
No. 12 New Hampshire in the NCAA East Regional on March 26-27, 2010 and No. 3 Michigan at famed Yost
Arena on Oct. 11, 2012. Under Wilson’s tutelage, the Tigers have defeated at least one nationally-ranked team
in nine of 10 Division I seasons.
In 2008-09, Wilson led the Tigers to a 23-13-2 mark, which included an 11-game winning streak. RIT was
the second highest scoring team in the nation.
In 2007-08, forward Simon Lambert became the first RIT player to be named a finalist for the Hobey
Baker Award, college hockey’s finest honor. The season before, RIT won the Atlantic Hockey regular season
title in its first year in the league.
Wilson won a national title as a player at Bowling Green State University in 1984. He also led the Falcons
to three NCAA Tournament appearances as an assistant coach.
Wilson led RIT to four NCAA tournament appearances and four ECAC West Tournament titles and was
named the ECAC West Coach of the Year three times. He earned AHCA Coach of the Year honors in 2000-01
when he guided the Tigers to their fifth appearance in the NCAA Division III National Championship game
after an unbeaten regular season (22-0-1, finished 26-1-1).
During his time at RIT, Wilson has coached nine All-American selections (two-time selection Jerry Galway, Pat Staerker, Derek Hahn, Peter Bournazakis, Mike Bournazakis, Tyler Euverman, Mike Tarantino, and
Matt Garbowsky). In 2001, Jerry Galway became only the second player in RIT history to be named NCAA
Division III AHCA Player of the Year.
In 2009-10, Jared DeMichiel and Dan Ringwald were the AHC Goaltender and Defenseman of the Year,
respectively, and garnered first team honors. Ringwald earned All-USCHO.com second team honors and was
a three-time All-AHC first team selection. Chris Tanev was named the 2010 AHC Rookie of the Year, while
Shane Madolora garnered the 2011 AHC Goaltender of the Year honor and was an All-AHC first team selection
in 2012. Lambert won the Atlantic Hockey Leading scorer award in 2008. Overall, 24 different Tigers have
earned 41 All-AHC honors since 2006-07.
Many of Wilson’s players have graduated and moved on to professional careers within their field of study.
Last season, nine players earned Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team honors. In 2010, Mark Cornacchia,
won the NCAA Elite 88 Award for Academic Excellence.
While at Bowling Green, several of Wilson’s players (including Rob Blake, Nelson Emerson, and Brian
Holzinger) went on to successful careers in the National Hockey League. In 2007, Steve Pinizzotto became
the first Tiger to sign an NHL contract at the Division I level. Pinizzotto was a key component of the twotime Calder Cup Champion Hershey Bears of the AHL and made his NHL debut with Vancouver in 201213. Since the end of the 2006-07 season, 36 players have gone on to sign pro contracts, including Tanev, who
signed with the Vancouver Canucks in 2010. Tyler Brenner signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2011.
Tanev became RIT’s first player to suit up in an NHL contest, making his debut with the Canucks on Jan.
18, 2011. He has appeared in 226 career NHL games for the Canucks through the 2014-15 season, including
the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals. Tanev will enter his sixth NHL season in 2015-16, recently having signed a
five-year extension.
Wilson earned a degree in health, physical education, and recreation from Bowling Green in 1984, and
added his master’s degree in education at BGSU in 1987. He lives in Pittsford with his wife, Lynn, and children Stephanie (26) and Stu (23). Stephanie graduated from Bowling Green in 2011, resides in Cleveland,
Ohio, works at the Cleveland Clinic, and is married to Kyle Konczos. Stu will begin his senior season as a
forward on the Yale hockey team in 2014-15. He played a vital role in helping lead the Bulldogs to the 2013
NCAA Division I Ice Hockey Championship.

Atlantic Hockey Association...
A new chapter in the history of college hockey was ushered into existence when the
Atlantic Hockey Association was created on June 30, 2003, by nine charter members. The
sixth Division I men’s ice hockey conference arose when the founding members-American
International, Bentley, Canisius, Connecticut, Holy Cross, Mercyhurst, Quinnipiac, Sacred
Heart and the United States Military Academy (Army)—required an organization that
represented their specific needs. The group of nine broke away from their former conference
affiliation, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and formed a conference specific to the
sport of ice hockey. Robert DeGregorio, former commissioner of Hockey East, was named
the conference’s first commissioner and played an integral role in the development of the
league as play between the nine squads began in the fall of 2003.
Success in the classroom is as important as success on the ice among the member
institutions of Atlantic Hockey. A total of 190 student-athletes were named to the
2014-15 Atlantic Hockey All-Academic squad in recognition of their outstanding
scholastic achievement. Atlantic Hockey athletes have also contributed their time off
the ice to numerous charitable organizations as a way of saying thanks to their many
supporters. Atlantic Hockey spans a total of five states: four in the northeast and one western
state, reaching from the Atlantic Ocean to the banks of the Great Lakes and out to the
Colorado Rocky Mountains. Members reside in Connecticut (Sacred Heart), Massachusetts
(American International, Bentley, Holy Cross), New York (Army, Canisius, Niagara, RIT),
Pennsylvania (Mercyhurst, Robert Morris), and Colorado (Air Force).
In 2010-11, Niagara and Robert Morris joined the conference. This is the 12th season
of existence for the Atlantic Hockey Association. In 2013, two AHA squads (Niagara and
Canisius) made the NCAA Tournament for the first time.
