Fused Glass 2
Three glass artists visited Normandale to do presentations for Fused Glass 2 students. Patricia Punykova is
a glass artist with a studio in the Solar Arts Building
in Minneapolis. She showed students her glass jewelry
and discussed her casting and coldworking processes.
Chuck Burton is a local master glass flamework artist
who demonstrated his glass beadmaking techniques.
Students were then able to make several glass beads.
Jeffrey Stenbom is an AFA-Art graduate. He took his
first Glass Fusing class in 2006. He went on to study
glass blowing and casting techniques at River Falls,
Wisconsin. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he
was accepted into the graduate glass program at Tulane
University in New Orleans. He presented his newest
cast glass pieces, discussed his journey working with
glass and demonstrated his casting technique.
Photographs for the Biology
Lab Lobby
Art CLA Dale Brown was asked by the Biology Department to photograph students, staff and faculty as they
worked in the Biology Lab. These photographs were
installed in the Biology Lab Lobby and will remain as a
permanent exhibit.
David Luke at Northern Spark
Faculty member David Luke is working with the nonprofit
Upstream Arts in Minneapolis to create 4 short animated
movies. Upstream Arts provides arts programming for
youth and adults with disabilities. In the course of a
Upstream Arts class, participants collaboratively write a
variety of poems. David is making short animated movies
of these poems. The movies will be projected large-scale
during Northern Spark 2014 (June 2014) as well as part of
Arts on Chicago (May 2014). For more information see:

Painting 2 Mural
The Painting 2 class at Normandale Community College created a mural in the Library area of Normandale’s campus,
in room L1763. The mural pays homage to Leonardo DaVinci’s The Last Supper and depicts the students who painted
the mural in the place of the disciples. The students are seen with and surrounded by books to encourage reading and
scholarship. The class broke up into rotating groups of three to five students. The project was one of the class assignments and took nine weeks to complete. The mural measures 14 feet in width by 9 feet in height.
This “in process” photograph was taken on April 29, 2014. The painting will be completed by May 13, 2014.
