A CHILD’S STORY — JENNY
June 21, 2006 • Child Protective Services
removes me from my mother’s care when I am
11 years old. She left me home alone a lot and
fed me meals like potato chips and water. I am
taken to Casa Pacifica. A doctor talks to me
and gives me an exam. They also give me
some new clothes and bedding. I meet Archie
– a huge black dog who sits with me. I’m
very scared.
July 2006 • I meet with a lady several times
a week who talks to me about being afraid
of everything and how I have sudden outbursts of rage. I’m not sure I trust her, but
she is nice and sometimes I feel better talking
to her.
April 2007 • I meet a really nice volunteer
named Martha who likes to come visit me.
We talk, play games, and read books
together. She is pretty cool. Sometimes we
go on outings.
August 27, 2007 • I go to live with
Martha in her home. I have my own room
and she buys me lots of new clothes for
the school year. I’m 12 years old. I start 6th grade
at a new school and I make some nice friends. Casa Pacifica’s
Therapeutic Behavioral Services program visits us for a while
to make sure my move to Martha’s house goes smoothly.
December 14, 2010 • I am heartbroken. At 15 years old I
have to go back to Casa Pacifica. Martha lost her job. She
used up all her savings while trying to find a new job.
Martha had to go live with her aunt and uncle in Wisconsin
while she tried to get back on her feet, and she couldn’t take
care of me anymore.
10
April 8, 2011 • I get placed in a new foster home. It’s okay,
but I end up arguing with them a lot because I’m angry.
October 15, 2011 • I’m 16 years old and I return to Casa
Pacifica. This time they place me in the Residential Treatment
Center. I am really mad and frustrated. I cut on my arms and
I’m not eating much. I miss Martha, even though I get to
talk to her sometimes on the phone.
November 2011 • The CITY program starts working with
me and talking to me about when I will emancipate from
the foster care system. It kind of scares me. We work on
getting my important documents together and teaching me
independent living skills.
March 14, 2013 • At 17 years old I move to a group home
in the community. The CITY program still keeps contact with
me and talks to me about what I want to do when I graduate
high school in June. We check out the local junior colleges.
I have pretty good grades in spite of everything.
June 2013 • I graduate high school! I go to a special
Milestones Ceremony hosted by Casa Pacifica and some
other agencies. I am really proud to graduate on time, even
with everything I’ve been through.
August 24, 2013 • I emancipate from the foster care system
and I’m about to start my first semester at Ventura College!
I am excited to move into the CITY program’s transitional
housing called Vicki’s House. I will learn all kinds of skills
there for when I eventually live on my own. I have a roommate
and there is a house ‘mom’ that helps us when we need it.
May 2015 • Junior college is finished! I have a part time job
at a clothing store. I’m doing really well and excited to start
at California State University Channel Islands in the fall! I’m
also going to move into Otis House – transitional house in
the community the CITY program runs. I will be on my own!
Martha is moving back to California in the summer. I can’t
wait to see her. I am really happy and excited for my future!
Sunday, June 7th • 1 pm - 5 pm • California State University Channel Islands

Together we can give kids hope.
Casa Pacifica would like to thank our generous Hosts – The Zarley Family, the Van Huisen Family,
and Union Bank, all of our terrific sponsors, the VIP Lounge host – Wells Fargo, Pacific Western
Bank for presenting the Yummie Top Chef Dinner and the Cassar Family for hosting; the wonderful
food and beverage exhibitors, the California State University Channel Islands, all of the individuals,
businesses, corporations, foundations, Angels, Amigos, Board of Directors and volunteers for
supporting this year’s Wine, Food & Brew Festival, ensuring its great success. The dollars raised

We thank the Wine, Food & Brew Festival Co-chairs, committee members, and the Angels for
their tireless dedication, creativity, organizational skills, and inspired vision to provide a wonderful

BECOME AN ANGEL...
Originally comprised of eight members and founded in 1990, the Casa Pacifica
Angels now number over 250 members. Each year they raise thousands of dollars
through fundraising events – including the Wine, Food & Brew Festival and “Spotlight
on Style” Fashion Show. The Angels also host four parties for the children – End-ofSummer, Halloween, Christmas Holiday, and Prom. Each Angel volunteer has a heart
of gold and the strong desire to make a difference. If we’ve just described you,
consider becoming an Angel today!
...OR AMIGO
The Casa Pacifica Amigos organize and sponsor activities for the children that might
not otherwise be available to them, such as bike rides, roller skating, pinewood derby races, and car shows.
We are looking for positive, adult role models for the children!
