Network of Victim Assistance Annual Report Fiscal Year 2014
Network of Victim Assistance
Annual Report Fiscal Year 2014
“NOVA’s work is critical to
the health, wellbeing
and future of the
Bucks County community.
For forty years, they have
“Keep up the
great work!
When victims of
abuse have no one
to defend them and
no one to turn to,
given a voice to
those who have been
silenced and hope to
those who thought all was
lost. With the help and
support of volunteers, and
of the community, they will
ALWAYS be a beacon of
hope in the night.”
NOVA is there.
Our society needs to
wake up and truly
stand with victims.”

Mission
Value Statement
Vision Statement
Network of Victim Assistance (NOVA)
supports, counsels and empowers
victims of sexual assault and other
serious crimes in Bucks County
and works to prevent and eliminate
violence in society through advocacy,
training, community education and
prevention programs.
We believe that all individuals should
be empowered to make decisions about
their lives, to be secure from violation
of their bodies and personal space, and
to live in a society free from violence.
We further believe that society has a
responsibility to educate and support
individuals with regard to these rights.
NOVA envisions a society free
of violence, one that empowers
individuals and promotes respect for
the privacy, diversity and dignity of
all people.

Highlights
With a $350,000 gift from a NOVA volunteer, we will be
able to provide Mobile School Counseling for the next 5
years. This program brings NOVA counselors into schools for
private counseling sessions with child clients who are unable to
make it to one of NOVA’s offices for services.
The North Penn Community Health Foundation awarded a
$25,000 grant to NOVA to develop and pilot its Pathways to
Healthy Relationships program. This interactive, multi-session,
life skills program for youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder,
ages 13-17, helps teens build positive friendships (online and
offline), address bullying, dating, and communication issues,
deal with conflict, and find resources for support.
The Bucks County Children’s Advocacy Center, a program of
NOVA, received a $10,000 Bucks Innovation and Improvement
Grant (BIIG) from Foundations Community Partnership to help
the CAC develop the capacity to conduct extended forensic
interviews with young children, children with disabilities and
those with severe trauma.

Our Volunteers
Without volunteers, NOVA could not accomplish all that it does
for victims and the community. In FY 2014, 127 volunteers
gave 15,280 hours to NOVA — the equivalent of more
than 7 full-time staff positions to staff the hotline, provide
support at emergency rooms and legal proceedings and work
at the thrift shop.
NOVA volunteers Lynn Bendann and Bette Coatsworth are recognized
as Volunteers of the Year at a Central Bucks YMCA Volunteer event.
They are flanked by Karen Corbett, NOVA Thrift Shop Manager and Julie
Dugery, NOVA’s Volunteer and Community Outreach Coordinator.
