AIM The parallel and serial combination of PMS STAR model has been designed in the radar simulator for adjacent airports in the same terminal area which defined as metroplex. POINT MERGE SYSTEM (PMS) PMS is an innovative method which merging arrival traffic flows on a single point, not on an axis, and it enables sequencing arrival traffic with Continuous Descent Approaches (CDAs) [1]. The elements of PMS are sequencing legs, range rings and a merge point [Fig.1]. And also typical design options of PMS are shown in Figure 2. Figure 1. Elements of PMS [2] Figure 2. Typical design options of PMS [2] METROPLEX AIRPORTS “Metroplex” is a term which could be defined as a system of two or more airports whose arrival and departure operations are highly interdependent [3]. Istanbul Ataturk International Airport (LTBA) and Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (LTFJ) are in the same terminal control area and in close physical proximity (20nms). LTFJ RNAV (GNSS) STAR (RWY 06) [4] PMS STAR MODEL PROPOSAL A PMS model with serial and parallel combinations has been implemented to LTBA (Rwy 05) and LTFJ (Rwy 06) metroplex airports. It is presented in Figure 5. CONCLUSIONS This PMS model proposal has the following expected benefits at metroplex airports: • Improve flight efficiency and predictability • Improve descent profiles (CDA) and minimize the environmental impact • Provide more orderly traffic flows with predefined trajectories • Standardized controller working methods and also improve controller situation awareness • Reduction in controller’s workload and frequency occupancy • Maintain or possibly increase airspace capacity.
