FRAUD PREVENTION
DON’T BE A MONEY MULE
HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
Job hunting? Watch out for bogus job offers for Payment Processors, Financial
Managers or Overseas Representatives. There is a fraudulent trend targeting
these positions known as the money mule scheme. The money mule scheme
starts by requesting new hires set up an account for ACH deposits and/or wire
transfers upon hiring, and then instructing them to unknowingly wire illegitimate
funds to fraudsters.
In observance of the following holidays, all
E Federal branches will be closed:
Be wary of jobs in these fields that:
• Contact you by finding your résumé posted online
• Ask you to open a new account to receive your earnings
• Instruct you to not share the details of your job with anyone
• Involve duties of wiring funds to other financial institutions (foreign and
domestic) or sending the funds to individuals via Western Union, and allow
you to keep a percentage of the funds as wages

This type of fraud is also happening through online dating websites, typically
through fraudsters posing as singles from outside of the US. Be cautious of
those trying to connect with you from overseas. Never give them money or
access to your online accounts.
Keep from being a money mule by:
• Regularly changing your password
• Keeping your password strong by using numbers and characters
• Closing your browser window after your online banking session is
complete.
As always, if you think you may be a victim of a money mule scheme, please
contact our Call Center at (225) 214-6800 right away. The security of your
accounts is very important to us, and we will do everything necessary to work
with you to keep your accounts safe.
