On Saturday, February 26, local cowboys and cowgirls
attended the hoedown of the season. Cowboy Up!, the
OMH Foundation’s third annual event, generated more
than $150,000 in support of the Radiation Oncology Center’s need for a PET scanner.
“Howdy, partner!”“Ride ‘em, Cowboy!” and “Whoa,
Nellie!” were a few common sayings
heard from the 800 guests that arrived
at the Jacksonville American Legion that
evening. Many were excited to dress
the theme and purchased cowboy hats,
boots and chaps for the special night.
Special thanks to the long list of dedicated sponsors including Golden Corral,
Richard Ray Real Estate, and the Rotary
Club of Sneads Ferry. Also thank you to

the Foundation Decorations Committee,
headed by Karin Dickerson of SurgiCare and
volunteer Pam Strickland, who used hay and
saddles to transform the American Legion. In
addition, gratitude is owed to the many other
volunteers, including the Marines and Sailors
who helped set up for the event.
A portrait session, a beach condo rental,
and a seven-layer German chocolate cake
were just a few of the items involved in bidding wars during the silent auction, organized by Lee Ann Thomas.
Attendees line danced their boots off to
an array of music provided by Taco and Maria’s DJ Services, while others enjoyed listening to Ryan Shupe and the RubberBand play
their up-tempo country tunes. A few were
escorted to jail by the volunteer deputies on
hand, but were released after donating $10
for bail!
