The Morrises shared a love of history, art, and travel – journeying throughout the world to bring ideas, artwork, and plants back to Compton. They believed strongly in education, stewardship, and preservation. It was their vision that Compton would one day become a school devoted to horticulture and botany. In 1933, Compton became the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania. Today, the 92-acre Morris Arboretum is listed on The National Register of Historic Places and is recognized as the official arboretum of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As a world-class public garden and premier Philadelphia destination, the Morris Arboretum promotes the relationship between people, plants, and place – bringing people together to learn, grow, experience, and celebrate. venue for weddings Towering trees, lush gardens, and sweeping vistas provide an unparalleled environment for any special occasion.
