A Closer Look at UL-Lafayette
Head Coach Ricky Bustle – Louisiana-Lafayette head coach Ricky Bustle is in his sixth
year as a head coach and has a career record of 23-40. Prior to coming to Lafayette, Bustle
was the offensive coordinator at Virginia Tech. and South Carolina. He was a four-year
letterwinner as a wide receiver at Clemson from 1973-76. His Ragin’ Cajun team won the
Sun Belt Conference in 2005 with a 5-2 record.
The Matchup – North Texas leads the Sun Belt Conference and ranks ninth in the nation
in passing offense with an average of 330.8 yards per game… Louisiana-Lafayette leads
the league by allowing just seven passing touchdowns all year… The Ragin’ Cajuns lead
the Sun Belt in rushing offense with an average of 238 yards per game. North Texas ranks
last in the conference in rushing offense with an average of 83 yards per game... LouisianaLafayette leads the Sun Belt in kickoff returns (21.2 avg.) while North Texas is last in the
same category with an average of 18.7 yards per return… This will be the first time ever
North Texas has played Louisiana-Lafayette with a winless record… This is the second
straight week that the Mean Green will face a team that leads their respective conference in
rushing after battling SEC leader Arkansas last week.

2007 Mean Green Football
Road Dogs – Playing on the road has become a familiar scene for North Texas during the
early part of this season. This week’s game at Louisiana-Lafayette will be the fourth of
five games this year that North Texas has played on the road. This is only the second time
in the last eight years that four of the Mean Green’s first five games have been away from
Fouts Field. Since joining the Sun Belt Conference 2001, North Texas is 16-31 in away
games and 18-12 in home games.
Starting Field Position – In its first four games, North Texas has lost the battle of field
position. On average, the Mean Green is starting its drives 11 yards deeper in its own
territory than its opponents. The average starting field position for North Texas has been its
own 23 yard line, while opponents have averaged the 34 yard line to start their drives. The
largest discrepancy came last week at Arkansas when North Texas averaged the 20 yard
line to start and Arkansas averaged the 36 yard line.
Avoiding Three and Out – Against Arkansas, the North Texas offense started the game
with three consecutive three-and-out situations, which turned into 17 points for the
Razorbacks. In four games this season, North Texas has been forced to punt after just three
plays 14 times. Mean Green opponents have been forced to punt after three-and-out just
seven times this year.
Third Down Distance – Todd Dodge has emphasized that his offense is most successful
when not faced with third and long situations. The philosophy is to methodically move the
chains by gaining enough yards on first and second down that third down doesn’t become
a statistical improbability with a long distance to gain. It is no coincidence that North
Texas’ best third down conversion effort this season was against SMU when it converted
50 percent of its attempts and had the fewest third-and-long situations. Against Oklahoma,
North Texas faced third-and-long situations 13 times and converted once. At SMU the
Mean Green had a season-low eight third-and-long situations and converted two. Against
Florida Atlantic there were 12 third-and-long situations and North Texas was successful
three times. At Arkansas the Mean Green faced 10 third-and-long plays and didn’t convert
any. For the season North Texas is 6-of-43 (14 percent) converting third downs of five
yards or more and 14-of-21 (67 percent) when faced with less than five yards on third
down.
Turnover Trouble – North Texas ranks 108th nationally and seventh in the Sun Belt
Conference in turnover margin, committing 12 turnovers while only gaining six. The Mean
Green committed a season-low two turnovers against Arkansas. Eleven of 12 turnovers
have come from interceptions while only one was a fumble. Dating back to the beginning
of the 2004 season, North Texas is 3-24 when committing more turnovers than its opponent
and 9-2 when committing less.
Points Off Turnovers – Even more telling than the turnover difference is what teams
are doing after receiving a turnover. In four games this year, North Texas has gained six
turnovers and turned those opportunities into a total of three points. The four opponents
have combined to gain 12 turnovers and turned those chances into 62 points. If you add to
that number the two blocked punts by Florida Atlantic (which aren’t technically considered
turnovers) that point total would increase to 76 points because the Owls scored touchdowns
off both.
Costly Picks – North Texas has had some costly interceptions this season, committing
three that were returned for touchdowns and three that were picked in the end zone.
Against Oklahoma, Giovanni Vizza threw an interception that was returned 25 yards for a
touchdown. At SMU Daniel Meager had a pick returned 49 yards for a score and against
Florida Atlantic Meager was intercepted in the end zone twice. The latest came last week
against Arkansas when Vizza was picked off in the end zone and the Razorbacks returned it
100 yards for a touchdown.
Not an Uncommon Start – This is the fourth time in the last 10 years that North Texas has
started the season 0-4. In three of those four years, one of the first three losses came to an
opponent ranked in the top 10 nationally. The last two times that North Texas started the
season 0-4 was 2001 and 2004, which were both Sun Belt Conference championship years.
North Texas’ combined record of the first four games over the 12 years since returning to
Div. I-A in 1995 is 9-40 (.184 winning percentage) and it has never had a winning record
after the first four games during that time.
Bookend Scoring – North Texas has scored 21 points in each the first and fourth quarter
this year but has struggled to keep that pace in the second and third quarter. Six of the
team’s eight touchdowns have come in the first and fourth quarter. In the second and third
quarter combined, North Texas has scored two touchdowns and four field goals.

2007 Mean Green Football
Youthful Front – North Texas is playing with a very inexperienced offensive line this year,
with only one starter returning from last year’s team. Coming into this year, senior Adam
Venegas is the only offensive lineman who has any career starts at North Texas. Of the other
four starters, two are sophomores and two are freshmen. Before this season, Venegas had
started 12 games and played in 20. Combined, the other four starters on this year’s offensive
line had played in 12 games and started none prior to this year.
Dodge Ball Has Begun – Todd Dodge became the 16th head coach in North Texas football
history when he was hired to lead the Mean Green on Dec. 12, 2006. Dodge is back for
his second tour of duty at North Texas after serving as the Mean Green passing game
coordinator in 1992 and 1993. Over the last five years as the head coach at Southlake
Carroll High School, Dodge led his team to an amazing 79-1 record while winning four
state championships. His only loss during that time was by a single point in the 2003 state
championship game.
A Return to the North Texas Sideline – Mean Green head coach Todd Dodge is making his
second tour of duty on the North Texas sideline after he was an assistant coach under Dennis
Parker in 1992 and 1993. Dodge was the passing game coordinator under Parker, helping
teach the most prolific passer in North Texas history Mitch Maher. During his two years as
the passing game coordinator, Dodge’s offense totaled 4,806 passing yards for an average
of 218.5 yards per game. Under his guidance in 1993, North Texas had 2,626 yards and 24
passing touchdowns, both of which have only been surpassed one time since then - and that
was the year after Dodge left (1994). Maher, who holds North Texas passing records for
career yards with 8,515, attributes much of his development to Dodge. North Texas has not
had over 2,000 yards passing as a team since 1995, which was the first year the Mean Green
returned to Div. I-A.
Making the Rare Jump – North Texas head coach Todd Dodge became just the sixth coach
in history to make the rare jump from high school to major college head coach when he was
announced as the new Mean Green boss on Dec. 12, 2006. Dodge joins Paul Brown of Ohio
State, who came from Massillon, Ohio High School in 1941; Roy Lester of Maryland, who
came from Montgomery High School in Rockville, Md. in 1969; Bob Commings of Iowa,
who came from Massillon High School in 1974; Jerry Faust of Notre Dame, who came from
Moeller High School in Cincinnati in 1981 and Dennis Parker who came to North Texas
from Marshall (Texas) High School in 1991. Brown coached for three seasons at Ohio State
and had a career record of 18-8-1. Lester was 7-25 in three years at Maryland, Commings
was 17-38 in five years at Iowa, Faust was 30-26-1 in five years at Notre Dame and Parker
was 11-21-1 during his three years at North Texas.
First-Year Head Coaches – Of the 24 Football Bowl Subdivision schools that made
coaching changes this year, 13 hired coaches who have never been a college head coach.
Through the first five weeks of the season, the 13 first-time head coaches have a combined
record of 22-38. There is just one first-time head coach who is still undefeated this season,
Jeff Jagodzinski at Boston College. There are 10 new head coaches at non-BCS schools this
year and those coaches have combined for a 13-35 record so far. The combined record of all
24 teams with new head coaches in 2007 is 48-62.
Rough Welcome – North Texas head coach Todd Dodge’s first game as a college head
coach just so happened to come against one of the best teams in the nation. As just the sixth
head coach in college football history to make the jump from high school to a major college,
Dodge was just the second of those to begin his collegiate career against a ranked opponent.
Bob Commings of Iowa lost 24-7 to sixth-ranked Michigan in his first game after coming
from Massillon (Ohio) High School in 1974. Of the five previous coaches to jump from
high school to major college, only Paul Brown of Ohio State had a winning record in his
first year when he went 6-1-1 in 1941.
Captains Named – North Texas head coach Todd Dodge announced that six players will
serve as team captains for the 2007 season following a vote by team members. Seniors
Jeremiah Chapman, Maurice Holman, Brandon Jackson, Derek Mendoza, Jamario Thomas
and Aaron Weathers were chosen by their peers to lead the Mean Green this season.
Home Grown – Of the 104 players on the North Texas roster, 94, or 90.4 percent, come
from the state of Texas. Only four Football Bowl Subdivision schools have a higher
percentage of in-state players on their respective rosters. San Jose State leads the way with
97.0 percent of its players (98 of 101) from the state of California. Florida Atlantic comes
in second with 95.6 percent (88 of 92) of its players coming from Florida. Fresno State has
92.4 percent of its players (97 of 105) from California. The University of Texas has 92.3
percent of its roster (108 of 117) made up from kids hailing from the Lone Star State.

Fresh Faces – North Texas had 21 players make their first appearance in a game during
the season-opening loss to Oklahoma. Of those 21 who saw their first action, 15 were
freshman, including nine true freshmen. For redshirt freshmen offensive linemen Matt
Menard and Esteban Santiago it was not only their first action in a game, it was also their
first career start. Walk-on true freshman kicker Thomas Moreland also saw his first action.
Walk-On Success – North Texas has had success in developing walk-on players into key
contributors over the past few years. On this year’s team there are four starters who came
to North Texas as walk-ons. Senior linebacker Derek Mendoza, junior punter Truman
Spencer and junior wide receiver Casey Fitzgerald all came to North Texas as walk-ons but
have earned scholarships in their time on the team. Freshman kicker Thomas Moreland
is the remaining starter who came as a non-scholarship player. Perhaps the best player
in North Texas history that originally came as a walk-on was linebacker Chris Hurd who
concluded his career as the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2003.
Chasing a Repeat of History – North Texas had a combined 5-18 record over the past two
years, going 2-9 in 2005 and 3-9 in 2006. The last time North Texas lost 18 games in a
two-year span was 1981-82, which it followed up with a conference championship and an
8-4 record in 1983.
Building a Winning Attitude – Head Coach Todd Dodge has made it a mission to build his
team with players who have experienced winning and been around winning programs. The
18 freshmen who make up Dodge’s first signing class have combined to play in a total of
11 state championship games in high school. Of those 11 state championship appearances,
seven have won state titles. Wide receivers Sam Dibrell and Marcus King, linebacker
Justin Padron, defensive end Kyle Russo and quarterback Giovanni Vizza all won at least
one state championship in high school.
Ford One of Youngest – North Texas offensive coordinator Todd Ford is the fourthyoungest offensive coordinator in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly
Div. I-A). Ford was born on March 28, 1973 making him 34 years old during the 2007
season. Only Major Applewhite (29) of Alabama, Brian Harsin (30) of Boise State and
Mark Helfrich (33) of Colorado are younger in the OC ranks. Among both offensive and
defensive coordinators, Ford ranks as the 10th-youngest in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
Letterman Breakdown – Of the 104 players on the current North Texas roster, 45 have
earned at least one varsity letter while playing football for the Mean Green. Only 11
players have earned three letters and eight of those are expected to be starters this week.
There are 16 players who have earned two letters and 18 who have earned one letter. Of
the 59 players who have not yet earned a varsity letter at North Texas, 16 are in the current
two-deep.
Television Time – North Texas is scheduled to play on television five times in 2007,
including the season-opener at Oklahoma which was televised nationally by FOX Sports
Net. The home-opener against Florida Atlantic will be televised back to the state of Florida
as part of the Owls television deal on Sept. 22. The Mean Green will also play on ESPN
Regional as part of the Sun Belt Conference television package in games against LouisianaLafayette, Louisiana-Monroe and Arkansas State.
Size Wise – Senior defensive end Blake Burruss and freshman offensive lineman Jacob
Kaiser are the tallest members of the Mean Green this year, standing at 6-7. Sophomore
offensive lineman Ajani Banks is the heaviest North Texas player at 328 pounds. Backup
running back Joshua Maldonado is the shortest player at 5-5 while cornerback Gary Oubre
is the lightest at 160 pounds.
Four Named Preseason All-Conference – North Texas placed four individuals on the
Sun Belt preseason all-conference, which was more than every school in the league except
Louisiana-Monroe and Middle Tennessee. Senior defensive end Jeremiah Chapman,
senior linebacker Maurice Holman, junior punter Truman Spencer and senior safety Aaron
Weathers all earned the prestigious preseason honor.
Mean Green Picked Seventh – North Texas was picked to finish seventh in the preseason
Sun Belt Conference poll which is voted on by league coaches and selected media. The
Mean Green finished 2006 seventh in the standings with a 2-5 conference record.

Coaches Up/Coaches Down – North Texas will put four assistant coaches in the press
box during games and will have five assistants along with head coach Todd Dodge on the
sideline. In the press box will be offensive coordinator Todd Ford, along with running
backs coach Shelton Gandy, safeties coach Chuck Petersen and defensive ends coach
David Rausch. On the sideline with Dodge will be defensive coordinator Ron Mendoza,
defensive tackles coach Robert Drake, wide receivers coach Clayton George, cornerbacks
coach Butch LaCroix and offensive line coach Spencer Leftwich. Graduate assistant
coaches Beau Davidson and Scott Vestal will also be in the press box.
Well Represented in the NFL – North Texas has had more players drafted to play
professional football than any other team in the Sun Belt Conference. Since the first NFL
draft in 1936, North Texas has had 77 players drafted, including seven players picked in
the first round. Arkansas State is second among Sun Belt Schools which have had players
drafted with 46. Joe Greene is the highest drafted player ever from North Texas when he
was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the fourth overall pick in 1969.
Enrollment on Rapid Pace – The University of North Texas enrollment for the 2007
fall semester is 34,268, making it the fourth-largest university in the state of Texas. The
enrollment has increased by an average of nearly six percent each year since 2000, when
the enrollment was 26,493. North Texas is the fastest-growing university in Texas and at
its current growth rate, would surpass the University of Houston by the year 2010. Along
with Houston, only the University of Texas-Austin and Texas A&M University have more
students than North Texas.
Gender Equity Report Card - The North Texas athletic department ranked second
in the nation and received a grade of ‘A’ on the Gender Equity Scorecard - an annual
report published Penn State University-York in an attempt to measure each school’s
commitment to women’s athletics. The report ranked colleges in the NCAA’s Football
Bowl Subdivision on opportunities available to women’s athletics, including scholarships,
participation, coaching salaries, recruitment budget and operating expenses. The study
incorporated 113 colleges which represent the 11 major football playing conferences. The
Mean Green finished second only to the University of Nevada, which finished on top of the
study for the second straight year. North Texas is one of only 11 schools in the country, and
the only program in the south, to receive a grade of ‘A’ from the scorecard. North Texas
was also recognized as the champion of the Sun Belt Conference in which no other schools
received the ‘A’ grade.
Academic Achievement – North Texas placed 12 football players on the 2006-07 Sun Belt
Conference Commissioners list which recognizes student-athletes who maintain a grade
point average between 3.5 and 4.0 for the academic year. Louisiana-Lafayette also had
12 members of its football team on the list while no other Sun Belt school had more than
seven honorees. North Texas also had 21 additional football players on the 2006-07 Sun
Belt Academic Honor Roll which recognizes student-athletes with a grade point average
between 3.0 and 3.5.
Mean Green and Under Armour - The North Texas football team has entered an
agreement with athletic apparel company Under Armour for the 2007 season. The team is
being outfitted from head to toe with Under Armour, including shoes, socks, pants, jerseys,
gloves and wrist bands. North Texas is one of only five college football programs to
have such a deal to wear the popular performance gear, joining Auburn, Maryland, South
Carolina and Texas Tech. It is the first time in recent history Mean Green players will be
outfitted exclusively by one company. Coaches will also be outfitted in Under Armour for
game-day.
Sun Belt Success – Since the inception of the Sun Belt Conference as a football league in
2001, North Texas has posted the best conference winning percentage of any of the eight
league teams. The Mean Green is 29-12 in conference games since 2001 for a winning
percentage of .707. Troy comes in second with a record of 16-7 (.696), followed by
Middle Tennessee at 25-18 (.581), Arkansas State at 20-20 (.500), Florida Atlantic at 8-8
(.500), Louisiana-Lafayette at 18-23 (.439), Louisiana-Monroe at 17-24 (.415) and Florida
International at 3-12 (.200).

2007 Mean Green Football
Mean Green Offensive Notes
Conference Leaders – North Texas leads the Sun Belt Conference and ranks ninth in the
NCAA in passing offense with an average of 330.8 yards per game. At its current pace,
North Texas would shatter the Sun Belt record for passing yards in a season, which was set
by Idaho with 3,826 in 2001. North Texas wide receivers Casey Fitzgerald and Brandon
Jackson rank first and second respectively in both receptions and receiving yards this year.
At their current pace, both would break the Sun Belt record for receptions in a season and
Fitzgerald would break the record for yards in a season.
Thomas Breaks Free – Senior running back Jamario Thomas had his best game in some
time against Florida Atlantic, rushing for 117 yards and one touchdown. Thomas broke the
42-yard scoring run early in the second quarter, which was his longest scoring run since
the 10th game of his freshman season against Idaho. It was also his first touchdown run
since the fourth game of the 2006 season – a span of 10 games. It was the 11th 100-yard
rushing game of his career but his first in the last seven games. He currently ranks third
on the Mean Green career rushing leaders list with 2,999 yards, which is 121 yards behind
Ja’Quay Wilburn for second place.
Move the Chains – Todd Dodge’s offensive system has helped North Texas move the ball
successfully through three games this season. The Mean Green offense set a school record
with 31 first downs against SMU in the second game and followed that up with 29 first
downs against Florida Atlantic. Despite being 0-4, North Texas has 91 first downs which is
a mark that took eight games to reach in 2006. North Texas has averaged 22.8 first downs
per game this year after averaging 12.7 in 2006.
Third Quarter Lagging – The North Texas offense has sputtered a bit coming out of the
locker room after halftime this year. The Mean Green has 400 yards or more of offense
in every quarter except the third, where it has totaled just 290 yards. North Texas has 56
rushing yards and 234 passing yards in the third quarter, which is well behind the 502 yards
of offense the team has accumulated in the fourth quarter.
Record Night – Junior quarterback Daniel Meager and junior wide receiver Casey
Fitzgerald stormed their way into the record books with their performances earlier this year
against SMU. Meager broke the North Texas single-game records for passing attempts
with 64, passing completions with 46 and passing yards with 601. His passing yardage
also ranks as the 12th-best single-game performance in NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision
history. Fitzgerald broke the North Texas and Sun Belt Conference records for single-game
receptions with 18 and receiving yards with 327. His reception total ties for the 18th-best
in NCAA FBS history and his receiving yards is the fourth-best in NCAA FBS history.
B-Jack on the Attack – Senior wide receiver Brandon Jackson came into this season with
41 career receptions and 463 career receiving yards. After four games this year, Jackson
already has 33 receptions for 389 yards. Jackson set new career highs against SMU with
10 receptions for 133 yards, but was overshadowed by teammate Casey Fitzgerald who
broke school records with his performance. Jackson currently ranks No. 9 nationally with
an average of 8.3 receptions per game. Jackson is on pace to have 100 receptions and
1,166 receiving yards this season which would break North Texas single-season records…
unless his teammate Fitzgerald has already raised the bar even higher.
Two Hit the Century Mark –The Mean Green had two receivers with over 100 yards
receiving against SMU which was the first time since Nov. 22, 1997 that feat had been
accomplished at North Texas. Junior Casey Fitzgerald had 327 yards while senior Brandon
Jackson had 133 yards against the Mustangs. The last time that had been accomplished
before the SMU game was against Utah State in 1997 when Jay Young had 103 yards and
Brock McCrew had 102 yards.
Passing Fancy – Through four games this season, North Texas has amassed 1,323 yards of
passing for an average of 330.8 yards per game, which ranks No. 9 nationally. The fourgame passing total for North Texas this year is already more yards than the Mean Green
totaled in 23 different seasons. At the current pace, North Texas would have 1,654 passing
yards after the fifth game, which is more than the Mean Green totaled in all of 2006 or
2005. The North Texas record for team passing yards in a season is 2,944 with an average
of 294.4 yards per game, set in 1969.

2007 Mean Green Football
Mean Green Defensive/Special Teams Notes
Match Last Year’s Effort – North Texas had its best defensive performance of the 2006
season against Lousiana-Lafayette, holding the Ragin’Cajuns to just 208 yards of total
offense in a 16-7 win. The Mean Green defense came into last year’s game with ULL
allowing an average of 356 yards per game and the Ragin’ Cajuns came into the game
averaging 314 yards of offense. The amazing statistic from that game was that ULL came
into the game leading the Sun Belt Conference with a rushing average of 189.5 yards per
game, but was held to just 40 yards on the ground against the Mean Green.
Quick Strikes – The North Texas defense will try to limit the quick strike scoring drives
this week after allowing Arkansas to hit the Mean Green with eight touchdown drives
that consumed less than two minutes of clock time. The only touchdown drive by the
Razorbacks that took more than two minutes was an eight-play drive that took 2:36. In four
games, the Mean Green has allowed 19 scoring drives that were two minutes or less.
Short Drives – There is a stark contrast between North Texas and its opponents in the
number of plays consumed during scoring drives. In four games, North Texas has 12
scoring drives and has averaged 7.7 plays in those drives. Mean Green opponents have had
32 scoring drives and have averaged 5.9 plays per drive. Of the 12 Mean Green scoring
drives, four (33 percent) have lasted 10 plays or more. Of the 32 opponent scoring drives,
only four (13 percent) have lasted 10 plays or more.
Spencer Shines – Junior all-conference punter Truman Spencer has turned in living up
to his preseason billing as a Ray Guy Award candidate as one of the top punters in the
nation. Spencer has averaged 41.3 yards per punt with 28 attempts in four games to
rank 48th nationally. He boomed a career-long 73-yard punt against SMU, backing the
Mustangs up to their own 3-yard line to start a drive. He had gone eight straight games (49
punts) without kicking a ball into the end zone for a touchback before having one against
Arkansas.
Looking for a Three-Peat – Aaron Weathers is looking to become the only Mean Green
player in history to lead the team in tackles for three consecutive seasons. Weathers led the
team with 113 tackles in 2005 and 78 last season. He becomes only the seventh player to
lead their team in consecutive seasons since North Texas starting keeping tackles as a stat
in 1977. Of the seven previous players to lead their teams in back-to-back years, Weathers
is the only defensive back. After four games this year he leads the Mean Green with 32
tackles.
Lack of Sacks – The Mean Green defense will be trying to increase its pressure on the
quarterback against Louisiana-Lafayette this week after recording just two sacks in the first
four games… both by senior captain Jeremiah Chapman. North Texas ranks last in the
NCAA with just .5 sacks per game.
Off-season Movement – There has been several position changes defensively for North
Texas during the early part of this year. Junior Steve Warren has moved from safety
to linebacker which was complimented by the move of junior Germaine Dawson from
linebacker to safety. Former tight-ends Charlie Brown, Ryan Davenport, Draylen Ross and
Bryant Seidle all found homes on the defensive side of the ball. Brown and Davenport are
playing defensive end while Ross is a defensive tackle and Seidle is a linebacker.
Looking for Picks – No Mean Green player recorded more than one interception during
the 2006 season and Derek Mendoza is the only North Texas player to record one this year.
Six North Texas players recorded one interception apiece last year. The only other time that
a North Texas player has failed to record multiple interceptions was in 1997 and 1984.
Troubled Returns - North Texas ranks last in the Sun Belt Conference in both kickoff
and punt return average this year. The Mean Green averages 18.7 yards per kickoff return
which ranks 107th nationally. Louisiana-Lafayette leads the Sun Belt in kickoff returns
with an average of 21.2 yards per attempt. In punt returns, North Texas ranks 118th
nationally with an average of 1.7 yards per return. Troy leads the league in punt returns
with an average of 21.6.
Breaking the Drought – It’s been 101 games and counting since North Texas has returned
a kickoff for a touchdown. Broderick McGrew was the last Mean Green player to do so
when he took a kickoff and returned it 100 yards in a 28-27 loss against Utah State on Nov.
14, 1998. The Mean Green is still well behind the streak leader Missouri, which has gone
273 games without returning a kickoff for a touchdown.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT TODD DODGE ...
“I would say he is a coach who knows how to put together a successful operation
and compete at a high level for an extended period of time. He has built a team and a
philosophy that has staying power. In my personal dealings with him, I was impressed
with his knowledge of the game, his dedication to the profession and his desire to
succeed.”
-- Bill Parcells, Former NFL Head Coach
“This is a great hire for North Texas. Todd Dodge is obviously a proven winner and a
great motivator of young men. His offensive knowledge and his development of young
quarterbacks is as good as anyone I’ve ever seen.”
-- Gary Pinkel, Head Football Coach, University of Missouri
“Todd is a great coach and an even better person. A coach is a coach at any level, and
Todd understands the role of the coach. He’s had a lot of success and touched a lot of
