Newport is considered the sailing capital of the world and was the home of the America's Cup for many years. Many of these America's Cup boats are still docked in Newport harbor and offer visitors a unique sailing charter opportunity. While cruising around the harbor, Narragansett Bay, and the ocean waters off Castle Hill, you will see a tremendous variety of sailboats and motor yachts from all over the world. With such a proliferation of classic vessels in the water, sometimes it seems as if you are in a floating museum of sailing history. Known as a New England summer resort and for the famous Newport Mansions, it is the home of Naval Station Newport, housing the United States Naval War College, the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, and a major United States Navy training center. Newport was known for being the "Summer White House" during the administration of President John F. Kennedy, and is the location of the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Newport is famous for its mansions and for hosting the Newport Folk Festival and the Newport Jazz Festival. Cobblestone streets and brick sidewalks accent an upscale touristy harbor area with many, many shops, galleries and restaurants. Newport sits on the southern end of Aquidneck Island and features several fine beaches, rocky cliffs and much history including historic Fort Adams which is located at the harbor entrance. Welcome to Newport, Enjoy your stay!
