The Boater’s Choice! P o r t o f E v e r e t t M a r i n a From the Marina Director HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope this newsletter finds all our boaters and their families healthy, happy and looking forward to 2007. Seems like I’ve said this before, but the year ahead is certainly expected to be one of “change” both in and around your Marina. The Port Gardner Wharf redevelopment will be in full swing soon and the new 12th St Yacht Basin and associated Guest Moorage and Dry Stack projects will complete in early spring. The new 75ton Travelift, haul-out dock and boatyard should be in operation in October; about the same time the old “P” and “Q” docks in the South Marina will be demolished in preparation for new docks that should be in place by mid-February. And these first few months of 2007 will be a particularly busy time for your Marina Maintenance Division as they tackle a number of repair and maintenance projects from float and restroom repairs to electrical upgrades. They’ve already replaced all the old concrete filler slabs in the North Marina and rewired “Q” North; along with repairing various waterline breaks from the recent freeze. Oh, and if you’re out boating the next few weeks, watch for the dredging that will be going on both in the river channel outside the marina and over at the Jetty Island Dock. Throughout the year ahead, we will endeavor to keep you informed of the progress on all projects and will work hard to minimize negative impacts to the quality services you expect and deserve. These newsletters, announcements on gates, the Dock Captains, the Marina Users’ Forum and Web site updates are ways we plan to “get the word out.” As always, your continuing patience and cooperation as we labor to improve the Marina and the surrounding property are greatly appreciated. One of the Port of Everett’s exciting improvements for 2007 is a completely re-vamped Web site, which is expected to debut in late January. Even the current Web site has a wealth of information about the Port and what’s going on; including both the Operating and Capital Improvement Plan Budgets for 2007. The challenges ahead in 2007 will be many, and the satisfaction of successfully working through them together will make this year most rewarding for all those involved – and I encourage you to get involved in making your marina as good as it can be: by taking good care of your own boat and dinghy (if you have one); keeping the dockside area around your boat shipshape and void of trip hazards; by complying with all marina and pollutionprevention policies; by bringing dock maintenance issues to the attention of staff; and by raising any concerns or suggestions you have regarding the Marina to your Dock Captain, to the Marina Staff or to the Port Commissioners directly. I think we’re making progress toward the vision of being “The Boater’s Choice!” And I see the pace of transformational activity required to realize this vision accelerating through 2007 and beyond. We’re glad to have you onboard for what is sure to be a fun ride! Bayside will be the first business to relocate to the Craftsmen District at the 12th Street Marina. An official ground breaking ceremony well be held at the end of January, and the planned opening of the dry storage facility will be in late March. For more information contact Jeff LaLone at: Bayside Marine (425) 252-3088 www.baysidemarine.com Pictured above are some of the new floats that will shape the Port’s new yacht basin. At this pace, the Port expects the new marina to be operational in spring 2007. After a few setbacks, the construction of the 12th Street Yacht Basin is back on track, and on pace to be open for business in spring 2007. The first floats for the project arrived in early November, and the Port has been working tirelessly to ensure that the in-water work is completed by Feb. 15. #10445 The Yacht Basin, which is located to the north of the Port’s existing marina, will have approximately 220 permanent and guest moorage slips and be the newest, state-of-the-art marina on the West Coast. This facility will accommodate yacht-class vessels that range from 40 to 70 feet, and has end-ties for vessels 80 to 143 feet. The trend in the recreational boating industry is toward larger vessels, so the expectation is that this marina will meet the needs of existing and future slipholders. The walkway, landscaping, marina support building and parking lot for the new marina are already complete. Half of the new slips are already reserved, and a portion of the slips are being saved for home buyers in the adjacent Port Gardner Wharf project. If you are interested in a slip, contact the marina office at 425-259-6001. Page 3 2007 NEWS FL ASHES!
