1-Day Demonstration SPARK Nutrition-Power Workshop created especially for Network for a Healthy California Grantees SPARK, in collaboration with the Network for a Healthy California, announces an opportunity to receive consultation, curricula, and training on our SPARK Nutrition-Power Program to help you integrate more nutrition into physical activity offerings with your Network-funded nutrition education programs. A 1-Day Demonstration SPARK Nutrition-Power Workshop (6 hours total) is designed to provide attendees (up to 40) with the components to begin a quality nutrition and physical activity program at their site. To facilitate this, SPARK will first review your current nutrition and physical activity offerings (needs assessment), then tailor their approach to best meet your needs. The focus of this training will be to incorporate nutrition concepts and education into physical activity offerings, as well as, to receive “hands-on” training with curricula and materials. Choose from any of the following programs; then contact SPARK to schedule your 1-Day Demonstration SPARK Nutrition-Power! Workshop (components and prices on back): 1. Early Childhood Physical Activity Workshop Audience: WIC, Head Start, day care centers, pre-school, after school programs, anyone working with children ages 3-5 2. Elementary Physical Education Grades K-2 Audience: PE specialists and/or classroom teachers 3. Elementary Physical Education Grades 3-6 Audience: PE specialists and/or classroom teachers 4. Middle School Physical Education Grades 6-8 Audience: PE specialists 5. After School for Ages 5-14 Audience: Recreation, YMCA, day care, Boys and Girls Clubs, after school programs, camp counselors Mary Hirt is the most wonderful trainer anyone could ever ask for! Our teachers learned a lot and gathered many ideas that they can incorporate within their PE classes as soon as the next day. SPARK is a great program, but it is even better when someone like Mary teaches different aspects of the program while motivating others to become more physically active. She is AMAZING!!!! Nutrition Overview: A nutrition overview will be presented and facilitated by the LIA coordinator. This overview could include (but is not limited to) the latest dietary guidelines, 5 A Day PowerPlay, nutrition/food preparation, food guide pyramid, etc. The nutrition overview can be conducted the day before the SPARK 1-Day Demo or included with the SPARK training. B. 1-Day Demonstration Workshop: This “hands-on” training will integrate nutrition concepts and education (some of which are addressed in the overview) into the workshop. All assessment, planning, and organizational time by SPARK staff, all preparation time for trainers, early set-up and late take down, and 6 hours of active instruction are included in the Workshop. Maximum 40 attendees per workshop. SPARK Institutionalization: If implementing for grades K-2 or 3-6, SPARK will train teachers to provide follow-up assistance and support to their colleagues (program maintenance is the goal). The SPARK trainer will conduct an additional 45 minute meeting/training of the school/agency identified “SPARK Star(s)” and/or principal/ administrator at the end of the workshop. These teachers/youth leaders will work with SPARK as our liaisons in promoting quality physical activity/nutrition instruction and program continuity with their staff after the 1-Day Demonstration concludes. Consultation/Support: For all SPARK Programs, the SPARK team provides consultation for each attendee. Each set consists of quality Sportime equipment and includes all the items needed to instruct everything in the SPARK manual. SPARK staff will consult with any school representative to modify a set to correspond with budgetary constraints and/or equipment needs.
