2015 LUAL Program for Web
Dear Friends, We are honored by your presence at our 33rd Annual Light Up a Life event. This is a cherished, time-honored tradition for our organization and we hope it becomes, and remains, one for you as well. With the holidays already upon us, we – community members, hospice families, donors, supporters, volunteers, and employees – gather during this busy time of year to remember those who have touched our lives. Light Up a Life allows all of us the opportunity to remember, to celebrate, and to honor the special people who have brought light into our lives. Collectively, we will illuminate the darkness that may arise when our hearts are touched by loss, illness or sorrow. Together, in community, we will say their names aloud. For a brilliant moment, our loved ones will be right here with us. As we stand in the candlelight of this ceremony, we hope you find hope regained in your life through this special ritual. Again, we appreciate your time in sharing the spirit of your loved ones at this year’s Light Up a Life. May your holidays be filled with the richness of memories, the opportunities for telling stories, and with gratitude for those treasured individuals who have left an enduring impact on our lives. At the Center for Compassionate Care of The Elizabeth Hospice, we understand the range of emotions, questions and challenges that illness, grief and loss may trigger. Our counselors and specially trained volunteers can help our families and the community-at-large find strength, courage and hope through their journey, regardless of the type of illness or death experienced, through our individual and family support programs: HOSPICE BEREAVEMENT PROGRAM is individualized grief support for family members for up to 13 months after the death of Elizabeth Hospice patients. INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING offers one-on-one counseling services for adults and children. DROP-IN AND SPECIALIZED SUPPORT GROUPS address unique and varied topics such as Child Loss, Perinatal and Infant Loss, Spousal Loss, and Parental Loss. ON-CAMPUS SCHOOL BASED PROGRAMS allow for easier access for children and young adults to receive grief support or cope with a family member with a serious illness in a safe, familiar atmosphere. CAMP ERIN ® SAN DIEGO is an annual weekend bereavement camp offered at no-cost to children and teens, ages 6-17, who are grieving the death of someone close to them. CUDDLE BEARS are lovingly created by volunteers using a favorite piece of clothing from your loved one, turning a teddy bear into a precious personalized keepsake. PEER-TO-PEER SUPPORT PROGRAM offers a lifeline of support, education, and resources.
