Girls' Varsity Basketball Playing Strong Through District
POP's varsity girls played a very competitive non-district schedule resulting in a record of 8 wins and
11 losses; they so far have a district record of 2 wins and 0 loses. They ended the non-district
schedule by participating in the McKinney Christian Tournament over the Christmas break where Ia
Arndorfer and Stephanie Shadley received All Tournament honors. From Coach Lumpkins: "I want to
first congratulate the girls on a great tournament. I would also like to thank all of the students who
offered to be part of our team when our numbers were low. Without your support we may not have
had a team. I am truly blessed to coach such a great group of girls. I am looking forward to a
successful district and playoff run."
The POP Lady Eagles play Ovilla tonight at home at 6:00 p.m. Please come out and support
the girls!
JV and Varsity Boys' Basketball
The Eagles Junior Varsity boys' basketball team battled hard against Lakehill Preparatory School on
December 16th. The team had a slow start, ending the first quarter down by 11 points, but they
never gave up, and pulled within one point with 17 seconds left in the game. The Eagles ultimately

JV and Varsity Basketball Players Team Up for Type 1 Diabetes!
The high school boys JV and Varsity basketball players are teaming up to help raise awareness
about Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and support JDRF, which is the largest charitable supporter of T1D
research. JDRF's research mission is to discover, develop and deliver advances to better treat and
prevent and ultimately deliver a cure for T1D. Next week, some POPCS students with T1D are
planning to have a special presentation at lower school chapel and information flyers will be sent
home with lower school students.

1 to 1 iPad Program FAQs
Varsity Swim Team Makes Big Splash in New Year
Many great questions have come
up regarding the 1 to 1 iPad
program scheduled to begin next
school year. Because of this, the
technology department has put
together a "Frequently Asked
Questions" sheet to address
parents' most common concerns.
Click here for the FAQs sheet.
H20 = 2 parts hard work + 1 part obsession!
The Varsity swimmers made another big splash at their first swim meet of the New Year last
Saturday. Tommy Harrington broke both school records in the 100 yard Butterfly and the 100 yard
Freestyle. Alex Thomas cut a whopping 12 seconds off his 500 yard Freestyle. Katy Harrington had
outstanding swims in the 50 and 100 yard Freestyle. Bryan Lee swam extremely well in the 50 yard
Freestyle and 100 Yard Breastroke.
The Varsity swimmers now have their sights focused on the upcoming TAPPS Regional and State
swim meets only a few weeks from now. Fly like an Eagle, POPCS swimmers!
If you have any questions or
concerns not addressed in the
FAQs document, please do not
hesitate to contact CJ Del Balso
for clarification.

It would be such a blessing to us
to have your application for
"baby to be" shortly after you
learn of their expected arrival.
The early notice is also a huge
blessing to prospective families.
Some apply when they first learn
they are pregnant. It would be
so disappointing to learn that we
can't serve them, especially
when that happens in the final
trimester and they thought they
had planned appropriately.
The ELC serves families beginning
at 6 weeks of age.

Interviews are on-going as we seek a Director of Development.
Please pray for Prince of Peace and for these staff members as we prepare to best serve the

families, and in the community around it.

The High School years play an integral part in young people becoming the productive adult citizens
of tomorrow. These four years are full of changes and challenges - spiritually, academically,
emotionally and socially. It takes much prayer, love, dedication, patience and understanding to help
these students and families have positive high school experiences.

High School Families
During these years, high school students are becoming more autonomous. They are breaking
farther away from their parents to find their own identity. It is a critical time to place these young
people in the best possible environment where they are challenged yet nurtured to become their
best selves.

Teacher Feedback Proves Classroom
Technology is Heading in the Right Direction
A major goal of POP's faculty this school year is to further integrate
technology into the classroom. A recent survey conducted with all
preschool through 12th grade teachers revealed that we are on the right
track in achieving this goal. In this survey, 91% of our teachers revealed
that they feel better equipped to integrate technology now than they did at
the beginning of the school year. A major contributor to this outcome is a
dedication to addressing the teacher's technology needs as quickly as
possible. Impressively, 88% of our teachers claim that technology issues
in their classroom are consistently handled on a timely basis. Overall, the
results of this survey confirm that we are making significant progress in the
area of classroom technology integration and we will continue working diligently toward ongoing
improvement. Check back next month for student feedback regarding classroom technology. The
future is exciting at POPCS!
POP's 6th Grade Destination Imagination Team Helps
Collin County Animal Services
Each year, POP's 6th Grade Destination Imagination Team chooses a charity to support. Last year
they supported Operation Kindness and this year, they decided to help Collin County Animal
Services.
Collin County Animal Shelter began as a no-kill shelter, but after just one year they ran out of room.
Now, they hold dogs and cats for seven days, or longer if they have room. Many people do not
realize they can look for their lost pets there and if they are not claimed or adopted in time, they may
not survive. If you are looking for a pet, you can adopt one from the shelter, so if you need a furry
friend we have a great place for you to look! You can learn more about Collin County Animal
Services by clicking here.
One of the ways we are helping the shelter is by collecting items that you may have around your
home that the pets could really use, like old towels, comforters/blankets, dog/cat toys and
collars/leashes. Drop boxes will be located in the front entrance to the Fine Arts Building and the
High School Commons through February 3.
Please consider helping - the towels, comforters and blankets really help keep the dogs warm,
especially during the cold winter. Also, tell all your friends and family about the shelter - the more
people who know about CCAS, the more pets we can save. Thank you from the POPCS 6th Grade
Destination Imagination Team!

On January 7th, the POP Girls' Varsity program held its First Annual Alumni Basketball game.
There were six alumni players that participated (Jessica Shadley, Dominique Jeanne, Carlyn
Powers,
Michelle Mercher, Nikki Hansen and Annee Hoftra), and they were coached by Mama Shadley and
Mr. Mercher, who both coached most of the girls in grade school. What also made this contest very
special was that there were two set of sisters competing against one another, Jessica & Stephanie
Shadley and Annee & Sammi Hofstra. It was a close match, but the Old School team defeated the
POP Eagles 52 to 49. Jessica Shadley led the alumni team with 33 points and Dominique Jeanne
dropped in a 3 pointer with 20 seconds left in the game to put her team up by three. The POP
Eagles were led by Nicole Shackelford with 16 points. The halftime festivities were filled with a Big
Shot Competition where fans were given one chance to shoot for cash prizes. (Winners were Cory
Schnell, 3 point shot and Taylor Shackelford, Free Throw).

Curt's Corner
ARE YOU AFRAID OF MAKING DECISIONS?
"He guides me along the right paths for His name's sake."
Psalm 23:3b
As we enter a new year, we soon realize that there are
decisions that will need to be made-personal, financial, family
and corporate. Sometimes we hesitate in making decisions
because we're afraid we'll make the wrong decision. This
causes undue stress in our lives and in the lives of others.
In His Word, God reminds us that there is an antidote to our fear of making decisions. Psalm 23:3
tells us that He guides us along the right path. So to get rid of the stress, all we need do is to let the
Lord guide us.

Photography students. The CDP students evaluate their peers' work based on photo subject interest, photographic
techniques used, cropping use, color, and title. The top 5 are displayed outside the high school office. Voting is open to
everyone--all ages, parents, staff, visitors, etc. The photo with the highest number of votes is the winner for the week.
