A Message From Our Leadership Team
2014 Report of Giving
A Message From Our Leadership Team
On behalf of the Library Board of Trustees, the Foundation Board and
the library staff we would like to thank you for your support of
Easttown Library in 2014.
Our public library is a place to learn, grow and explore. As part of its
mission, Easttown Library actively supports the educational and
learning needs of every person in our community. We serve as a vital
resource for helping young children learn to read, and provide equal
opportunity to access information, high quality materials, programs, and
online resources. We strive to meet the needs of our diverse community
for lifelong learning, cultural enrichment, and intellectual stimulation
and host classes, workshops and training opportunities for all ages, all
year long. As part of its mission to advance literacy, the library offers
services that can help patrons learn a new skill, prepare for the workforce, or earn a high school diploma.
In addition to your support for the library through the Annual Fund in 2014, we also received funds through
the Commonwealth’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program. Using these funds, the library
has been able to offer a greater number of science and history programs for students in grades K-12. In 2014,
over 1,000 students and their families have participated in EITC funded programming.
Along with an Annual Fund and EITC funding, we are also moving forward in our efforts to build an
endowment for the library. A strong endowment will ensure the long-term stability and continuous support
for technology, programming and library materials now and into the future. It will also help to provide the
funds needed to meet unforeseen expenses. It is our hope that in 2015 you will make a contribution to both
the Library’s Annual Fund and to our Endowment Fund.
In 2014 we added three new members to the Elsie Jardine Legacy Society. This society recognizes those who
have notified us that they have included the library in their estate planning. The library was especially
honored to be a beneficiary in the estate of William F. Ward. Mr. Ward was a Berwyn resident and a
professor of biology at Rosemont College for over 50 years. A portion of his bequest will be used for special
projects now and the remainder has been put into the Endowment Fund helping ensure that the benefits you
enjoy now will be available for generations to come.
Easttown Library embraces its role as a social and educational hub in our community that is useful at every
stage of life. Your ongoing support helps makes so much of what we are able to do possible. It makes the
difference between a good community library and a great community library.
Thank you for all you do for Easttown Library,
Dennis P. Leeper

Easttown Library Foundation is Recognized as an
Educational Improvement Organization (EITC).
The Easttown Library Foundation has been approved once again by the
Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development as
an educational improvement organization. As such the library is eligible
to receive contributions through Pennsylvania’s Educational
Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program which allows eligible
businesses to make donations to participating educational nonprofits
in exchange for tax credits. Funds received through EITC support
expanded youth (K-12) science programming at Easttown Library.
The Franklin Institute brought their interactive
program, Animals With Bad Reputations to
Easttown Library. This program was made
possible with EITC Funding.
To inquire about making an EITC donation to Easttown
Library contact Angela Scully at
ascully@ccls.org.
In 2014 Easttown Library Foundation was honored to have received
EITC support from: First Priority Bank and Waste Management.
In 2014 the library hosted 9 EITC sponsored science programs reaching
over 1,000 people. Presenters included the Franklin Institute, Academy
of Natural Sciences and Wondergy. This year we will be adding an art
conservation program from Winterthur Museum.

Message from Alan Silverman, Library Director
Over the last decade many of us have embraced the digital revolution. We read on devices and
we access movies, music and information online.
Easttown Library has not stood still either. We support technological advancement by
providing training in the use of computers, e-readers and other devices, and making space
available for people to connect to our wireless network. But we haven’t abandoned our more
traditional role of building a vital, up-to-date collection of materials in a variety of formats and
offering creative programming that engages our community. We are currently exploring new
ways to organize our materials and we are adding more public meeting space. In all of this, our
goals are constant. We support literacy for all of our customers, young and old, and we serve
as a resource for learning new skills and enhancing the well-being of our community through `
our programming.
All of us at Easttown Library – our boards, staff and volunteers – work hard to provide you with the information, materials
and services that you need for a lifetime of learning, civic engagement and the exchange of ideas. Our strength as a
community resource lies in our ability to adapt while at the same time maintaining and enhancing longtime community
ties. The relationships we build with our customers guide how we develop our programs and services.
Now in our 110th year, we are continuing to evolve to meet the rapidly changing needs of our community.
Thank you for your support of our library.
