This past spring, students from Holy Cross High School in Dunmore welcomed
WNEP Newswatch 16’s Ryan Leckey at 4 a.m. for Ben & Jerry’s # FreeConeDay
2015. “Leckey Live” featured highlights of community service and educational
excellence at Holy Cross. HCHS students were amped up in the early morning
and even shared a special Prom-posal on live TV.

Molly Moran, Tessa Romani, Ryan Reedy, Melanie Moran, Kristopher Latoski, and Matthew
Sorick, students at Wyoming Area Catholic School in Exeter, pose with their bus driver Tom
James, on the last day of school. It was the last day of work for Mr. James, a resident of Harding,
who retired from Pace Transportation at the end of the school year. For the past 15 years, he has
been an active part of the WAC school community, carefully transporting students to and from
their homes to the school and shuttling them on field trips.
As part of the Young Engineers Program at St. Nicholas-St. Mary’s School in Wilkes-Barre,
William Siejna, Emily Nguyen, Jacob Kester, and Michael Williams utilized their STEM
skills in an effort to create projects on their new 3-D printer this year. These 8th grade students
explored software programs and applied the Engineering Design Process to create, design and
manufacture detailed prototypes, including houses with window frames and doors, following
specifications designated by their teachers, Mrs. Viera Adameck and Mrs. Janice Szczechowicz.
Fourth grade students at Epiphany School in Sayre enjoyed visiting the
One Room School House; here two students help raise an American flag,
which featured only 44 stars.
Roisin Burke and Marley Mullery, juniors at Holy Redeemer High School
in Wilkes-Barre, won first place in the State History Day Competition at
Millersville University. This win, with their entry “The Legacy of Eleanor
Roosevelt: America’s Leading First Lady,” qualifies them for the National
History Day Competition at the University of Maryland this summer. Pictured
with the winners are faculty advisors John Kurilla and Dr. James McKeown.

St. Jude School in Mountain Top recently held orientation for students entering
Kindergarten and four-year-old Pre-Kindergarten. Activities included a bus ride,
a tour of the school, screenings, and a chance to decorate a over-sized bear after
listening to a reading of “Corduroy.”
The Peacemakers Club from All Saints Academy in Scranton asked their fellow
students, faculty, their families, and community members to donate non-perishable
food items to support those who need meal assistance; pictured above are the
students delivering their donation to the St. Patrick’s Church Food Pantry.
Mrs. Reese and her Pre-Kindergarten students from La Salle Academy in Dickson
City prepare to release the butterflies they have been learning about through classroom
observation.
Natalie Pompeo, a 4th grade student at Notre Dame Elementary School in East
Stroudsburg, smiles as she and her classmates learn more about upgrades to their computer
lab. The school recently purchased 36 new Lenovo Desktops for the students, which will be
integrated into the technology curriculum.

school year. Hannah graduated from SMMC in
June and will enter the 9th grade at Holy Cross
High School in Dunmore beginning this fall.
