Alfa Laval Aalborg’s advanced and reliable thermal fluid heat generating systems offer an alternative to steam boilers, another trendsetting solution marketed by Alfa Laval Aalborg. Our expertise in heat transfer and thermal fluid technology has been accumulated over more than three decades. have the practical and technological background to advise our customers on the most suitable and efficient heat solution for each particular ship type. Our experience over the years and the efforts in research and development result in continuous innovations. The thermal fluid systems’ product centre is located in Spijkenisse, near Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and covers development and manufacture of heat generating systems for marine, offshore and industrial applications, supported by our global after sales network. Lifetime commitment Buying from Alfa Laval Aalborg secures lifetime commitment to the delivered products. Our thermal fluid systems are supplied as complete, engineered systems with all necessary components. Alfa Laval Aalborg supplies solutions that are environmentally friendly, reliable and provide high performance. History As a pioneer in engineering and supply of thermal fluid systems in the early 1970s, we 2 After delivery, our customers enjoy the security of our global after sales organi zation for spare parts supplies. We are also ready to assist if operational problems occur or refurbishments are required. With offices located around the world, we are always close to our customers. Why a thermal fluid system from Alfa Laval Aalborg? Thermal fluid systems on ships are used to supply heat for various kinds of heat consumers like fuel oil tanks, separators and 1970 1987 1991 1993 1995 1999 The first designs of thermal fluid systems for marine purpose were marketed by the Dutch company Troost representing the company Apparatebau Wiesloch, Germany. Wiesloch Marine & Industries BV, the Netherlands, was established to design and market the WIESLOCH™ thermal oil heaters. Aalborg Ciserv International (now Aalborg Industries A/S) in Denmark launched the TO-1 and AO-1 thermal oil heaters. Wiesloch Marine & Industries B.V. and Apparatebau Wiesloch established AKB Apparate- & Kesselbau in Germany to manufacture it own thermal heaters. Wiesloch Marine & Industries B.V. acquired the Saarloos Warmtechnik (GEKA) brand and technology. Boiler and burner company Aalborg Industries in Denmark acquired Wiesloch Marine & Industries B.V. and their WIESLOCH™ brand thermal fluid heating technology. fuel heaters and to heat all types of cargo such as bitumen, oil products and chemicals. Also tank washing systems, steam generators and central heating systems are typical fields of application. In thermal fluid systems, the produced heat is transferred to the ship’s heat consumers by means of a transfer fluid, usually a mineral oil. Pumps circulate the fluid through the closed system, passing the fuel oil fired heaters and economizers. The fluid remains in a liquid phase during the entire process, enabling high temperatures with the lowest possible pressures. The simplicity of our system and the noncorrosive nature of the oil makes this a very reliable and low maintenance solution. Our system is easy to operate and due to the way we design the system, the thermal oil has a long lifetime. Through the 12 inch touch screen of this control panel, the operator has a clear overview of the complete heating system and its status. The different kinds of field-bus connections for communi cation mean that connecting a second touch screen and/or connecting the system to the central alarm system is very simple. Environment first As an option, we offer our updated energy management systems (EMS) to control and monitor the temperature of the ship’s fuel tanks and other heat consumers. The EMS incorporates all heat consumers and compares the available heat in the system with the actual requirement of the consumers, ensuring the most efficient use of the heat energy, reducing the need of supplementary firing of the oil-fired heater and thus reducing emissions to a minimum. To ensure the safe and reliable operation of the plant and in order to offer a user-friendly system for the operators, Alfa Laval Aalborg has developed our own safety and control systems. Based on limited key data, a proposal for a complete thermal fluid heating system can be worked out within a short time. Below: Large capacity oil-fired Aalborg TFO.
