Our volunteers will be outside the L.C.B.O. and selected stores throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes on SATURDAY, MAY 25TH asking for much needed donations. Getting rid of your pocket change will certainly lighten your load and help needy families. Fourteen members of the Taoist Tai Chi Society supported KLFS. Page 3 THE SOURCE The 11th annual Pasta Challenge And the winner is….. I.E. Weldon Secondary School I.E. Weldon Secondary School won the 11th Annual Pasta challenge by contributing 2,442 boxes of macaroni and cheese. In an incredibly close contest with Haliburton Highlands Secondary School, I.E. Weldon also won the Trillium Lakelands District School Board trophy. 1 2 The challenge pits the four Kawartha Lakes high schools against each other to see which can collect the most boxed macaroni and cheese dinner in two weeks for the Kawartha Lakes Food Source. Results are adjusted by population to allow for a fair comparison between larger and smaller schools. Students at IEWSS (1)collected 2.099 boxes per student while LCVI (2) students—last year’s winner—collected 1.8137 boxes per student. FFSS (3) came in at 1.2944 and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic collected 269 boxes. Overall, the four schools amassed an impressive 5,344 boxes of macaroni and cheese, which will be distributed on a fair share basis to the Food Source’s member agencies, allowing them to spend their limited cash on other items needed by the families they serve. The eleventh annual Pasta Challenge ran from Feb. 11 to Feb. 25. The winning school receives a trophy — topped with a bright red tomato — to display for a year. CONGRATULATIONS And many thanks! 3 Spring Extra Helping Food Drive April 19th to May 4th Loblaw and Valu-mart From April 19th to May 4th, 2013 please consider purchasing a bit extra to donate to The Kawartha Lakes Food Source.
