She’d been listening to the cat meow for two nights and was at her wits’ end. She said firefighters had succeeded only in scaring the cat higher up the tree, so Karl stopped by the Grandview Heights neighborhood, and safely escorted kitty (who refused to ride earthward in a bag) to terra firma. And we are told Karl didn’t get a scratch in the process. Winter pruning. Why do we harp on it so? Because we’re sold on its benefits: Less intrusive to the customer… more people are indoors in winter. Less potential damage to surrounding lawn, shrubs, gardens and flowerbeds. Arborist can see tree structure better and can easily identify dormant buds. Pruning helps prevent tree and property damage from winter wind and ice. Tree wounds are less vulnerable to insects and disease. And perhaps the greatest benefit of all: our Beauty Sleep discount!* *Call us to get your 10% Beauty Sleep discount by scheduling tree service between January 4 and March 31! ” ” As usual, two competent, friendly people! Thanks. Jim F. – Ephrata E M P L OY E E S P OT L I G H T : Welcome I nt r o d u cing > James Rupp thankyou! Survey Card dinner winner Plant Health Care Technician James Rupp, who joined us in May, has twenty years of industry experience and is excited about the opportunity to work with customers to enhance the health of their trees and shrubs. A certified plant health care technician, James has worked in landscaping but never directly for an arborist. “It’s been nice to ‘branch out’ and work more closely with the health of shrubs and trees,” he says (pun not entirely unintended). When James isn’t working on our clients’ landscapes, he spends quite a bit of time on his own landscape and garden. He also enjoys hiking, fishing and traveling. James resides with his wife Christina and their two dogs (Abbie and Mickey Fang) in Ephrata. Visit arboristenterprises.com to learn more about our full-service offerings. Fun Fall Facts E ach fall, the black-capped chickadee’s tiny hippocampus enlarges by 30%, which enables it to remember where it collected seeds in different spots in trees and on the ground. 1926 Auction Road, Manheim, PA 17545 Red and purple leaves get their color from sugars in sap trapped inside the leaves. T he word “harvest” comes from the Old Norse word haust, which means “to gather or pluck.” As people moved to the cities, “harvest” fell out of use and they began to use “fall of the leaf,” which was shortened to “fall.” Here’s your Fall 2015 Arborist Enterprises newsletter!
