The 2014 International Make-Up Artist Trade Show
Sydney is hosting a party featuring tips, techniques and live
demos from some of the best make-up artists in the business.
This sixth installment of IMATS Sydney is slated for Sept.
20-21 at the Royal Hall of Industries, Moore Park.
American sculptor and concept artist Jordu Schell is
one of four top-tier keynote speakers scheduled for the
show. Schell has been working in film and television for
nearly 25 years. He has designed creatures and characters
for Predator 2, Men in Black, Alien: Resurrection, Avatar, The
Mist, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, The Chronicles of Narnia:
Prince Caspian, Edward Scissorhands, Creature of Darkness,
Dragonball Evolution and more.
New York-based artist Roshar will serve as beauty
keynote; his work has appeared in Vogue, Elle, Harper’s
Bazaar and Glamour, among others. His clients include
CoverGirl, Wella, L’Oréal, Paul Mitchell and Make Up For
Ever.
Keynote speakers Adam Johansen and Damian Martin
cofounded the Sydney-based company Odd Studio. Some of
their film credits include Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of

the Sith, Farscape, The Wolverine, The Matrix Reloaded, Babe:
Pig in the City, Where the Wild Things Are, Superman Returns,
The Cup, Australia and Mad Max: Fury Road.
IMATS Sydney is also an excellent place to shop: some
of the best international make-up brands will show and sell
the latest products. Make-up pieces from film and television
will be displayed in the IMATS Make-up Museum. And
in the Battle of the Brushes student make-up competition,
students will race against the clock to create winning looks
and take home trophies, cash and prizes. The beauty category
is themed Art Though the Ages, while the character category
is themed The World of Comic Books and Graphic Novels.
In addition to the Sydney show, IMATS is held in Los
Angeles; New York; London; Vancouver, British Columbia;
and Toronto. All events are produced by Make-Up Artist
magazine, a division of Key Publishing Group. Read in
nearly 70 countries, the magazine was created in 1996 by
Emmy Award-winning make-up artist Michael Key.
