Fattoria di Castel Pietraio
EN Appetite comes with eating but thirst departs with drinking (Rabelais) Fattoria di Castel Pietraio ® The Castel Pietraio estate is located in the heart of Tuscany, in the Chianti Colli Senesi zone, only a few miles from the Chianti Classico district, in a hilly position at an altitude of around 250 meters above sea level, in the commune of Monteriggioni. Its 153 hectares are divided among vineyards, olive groves, corn and sunflowers fields, meadows and woods, respecting the natural features of the ground. Its particular climatic conditions, its position on the hills and its favourable exposure, make Castel Pietraio a farm with an excellent vocation to quality wine-growing. Grapes and olives were the crops that, even since Dante’s time, have been the natural vocation of this territory. These crops are still used to the greatest advantage at Castel Pietraio as a tradition, and for many years they have been using pest control and fertilization techniques with a low impact on the environment, such as sowing legumes in the rows between the vines. At Castel Pietraio, new vineyards have been planted with a bigger number of plants per hectare and rooted cuttings with lower productivity, with the conviction that a good wine is, first of all, born in the vineyard, and that the fundamentals are, therefore, the choice of the most suitable land, state of the art planting, reduction and the care and passion for the vines. To be sure to get a good product, a few elements are fundamental: the nature of ground, its exposure, natural soil, from maturing to spring green manure, and the employ of the most modern agronomic techniques which allow a strong in the use of plant protection products, in order to create a produce which is more respectful of the environment and of the consumer's health. Summer thinning out lets to improve the quality of the grapes to harvest, while defoliation allows a better exposure of the bunch to the sun, to favour sugar development. The cellar is a point of pride: it is equipped with the best and most modern facilities for wine-making from own grapes only, besides of the barriques of allier for ageing. The juvenile female renewal breeze that blows in recent years at Castel Pietraio, a company has always committed to quality, with winemaker Barbara Tamburini, and that has led to international recognition with the wines: Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG, Chianti Superiore DOCG and IGT Chardonnay Sindrada addition to the Vin Santo del Chianti DOC, now reaches a new milestone with Albertus, Merlot wine Castel Pietraio with its own medieval castle, vineyards and cellars, is not only a winegrowing company, but also a hospitable place for those who search for a different type of holiday. A vacation that combines modern comforts, the atmosphere of a distant past and the magical scent of the Chianti hills. Accommodations in rooms or apartments with an evocative historical ambiance and the production of fine wines make of Castel Pietraio a "Wine Resort" which guarantees an unforgettable stay.
