This means that we are now the lead centre for Forest Gate Community Neighbourhood Area, and will be delivering services in partnership with Maryland Children’s Centre. Best Start in Life Guarantee The guarantee that Newham council has proposed to make to families with children aged 0-5. The guarantee focuses on high quality parenting support, health and development support and improved access to childcare. This is a joined-up offer of services to Newham’s residents including early education, health and childcare. 2 Forest Gate Children’s Centre Maryland Children’s Centre Stay and Play Messy Mondays 9.30am - 11.00am Enjoy fun and interactive activities indoors and outdoors to promote your child’s development. First 10 toddlers and their parent/carer. Last session will be 11th Jul. Next session will start 12th Sept. 10.00am - 11.30am (1-3yrs) Come and join us for some storytelling fun. We will take you into a whole new world full of imagination, adventure and creativity. Please remember to bring a change of clothes as you will get messy! Baby Group Little Explorers 1.30pm - 3.00pm (3-12 months) An inviting, safe environment where you can meet others, share ideas and experiences, enjoying regular focussed activities designed to develop babies’ senses. 1pm - 2pm This is a Stay and Play session for 2yr olds and under, with plenty of opportunities to encourage their independence as they freely explore! Community Nursery Nurse will also be available for advice about your child’s developmental stages. First 10 under 2’s and their parent and carer. Last session will be 11th Jul. Next session will start 12th Sept. 3 Forest Gate Children’s Centre Maryland Children’s Centre Developmental Health Reviews Chatterbox 19th Jul, 16th Aug, 20th Sept 9.30am - 11.15am Session delivered by Lord Lister Health Centre. By appointment only 19th Jul 9.15am - 11.15am Come and speak to a specialist if you are concerned about your child’s speech. Triple P One to One Storytelling @ The Gate Library Tuesdays 12th, 19th, 26th Jul 10.00am - 12.00pm Strategies to promote your child’s behaviour and enhance your parenting skills. 10.30am - 11.30am Come and enjoy a story, arts, crafts, songs and rhymes. Last session will be 16th Aug. Next session will start 13th Sept Let Me Communicate 10.00am - 12.00pm 20th, 27th Sept, 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th Oct These speech and language sessions are for children with special needs. Treasure babies Baby Massage (2-7 months) 10.00am - 11.00am Let your babies explore through their senses and a chance for you to meet other parents. Wednesday 20th, 27th Jul and 3rd, 10th Aug 9.30am - 10.30am Learn the benefits of baby massage through positive touch. Learn massage strokes to aid your baby’s stimulation, bonding, sleep, colic, teething and digestion. Stay and Play 1.15pm - 2.45pm Enjoy fun and interactive activities indoors and outdoors to promote your child’s development. First 20 toddlers and their parent/carer. Next session 14th Sept. Make sure your child wears old clothes as they will get messy! First 10 babies/toddlers and their parent/carer. Last session will be 14th Jul. Next session will start 15th Sept. Thursday 7th Jul, 4th Aug and 8th Sept Duncan Lewis Solicitors are offering a 30 minute free advice consultation for any matters with family law such as domestic violence, divorce, public law, housing and immigration. Soft Play @ Woodgrange Baptist Church 1.00pm - 2.00pm Come and enjoy a soft play experience, where children can have fun and enhance their physical development! Afternoon Tea 1.00pm - 3.00pm This is an informal group for parents and carers to enhance their life skills and personal development through group therapy, training and workshops. Forest Gate Children’s Centre Gardening Project Forest Gate Festival 7th Jul 10.30am - 12.30pm Enjoy the outdoors, come and plant bulbs, vegetables etc. 16th Jul 10am - 5pm Come and enjoy this whole street festival, lots of activities at Forest Gate Children’s Centre as well as Osborne Road! Holiday Activities @ Forest Gate Children’s Centre The centre offers activities for families with children up to 8 years old during school holidays. Please look on our website for information about our Holiday Activities or call the centre. 7 Toilet Training Workshop The centre will have a Party in the Park launch event: Are you thinking of starting to potty train your child? When: Wednesday 21st Sept Time: 11am - 1pm Where: The Lodge, Forest Lane Park Would you like some useful tips on how to begin potty training? Come and celebrate this occasion with us. There will be lots of activities, information, snacks and refreshments. Free t-shirts and key rings will also be given on the day! Parent Protect Workshop Understanding potential risks to children and knowing how to put in place a Family Safety Plan can help reduce the risk of harm to your child. Baby Clothes Bank @ Maryland Parent Play and Talk This six week programme is delivered on a 1:1 basis in your home. Parents can learn techniques to encourage their child’s speech through play. More children are eligible for Free Early Education for 2 year olds. Your child may be entitled to up to 15 hours per week of free early education, starting the term after their second birthday. This is subject to meeting qualifying criteria. Newham’s Best Start in Life (BSiL) offer provides access to early education, childcare and health services to families with children under five. Relevant training will be provided. Children can borrow a book and one toy for up to one week. on 020 3373 0580 or email: EarlyStartvolunteer@newham.gov.uk 10 Triple P Made of Money A Positive Parenting Programme group session could help you enhance your parenting skills. Groups discuss how parents can work with their children using tried and tested parenting techniques. These sessions will help you to understand your finance, debt and how to manage your budget. By attending these sessions you will gain confidence, learn for the future about money and share top tips to beat the big brands! You will be able to use strategies to support your child’s sleep routine, behaviour, teach new skills and much more. Crèche will be provided. You will learn how to manage behaviour problems and developmental issues common amongst children with additional needs. How to take care for yourself reducing parenting stress, develop a close relationship with your child and lots more. For more information contact Josie on 0208 534 4403. Welcome Everyone who has a child under 5 years old in their family and living in Newham are welcome to use our services. Some of our groups need to be booked in advance. We provide a free crèche for most of our classes for adults. You will be asked to register your child in the crèche when you book on a course. It is best that you book early as places in our crèche are limited. Please bring your Family Membership Cards when attending sessions at the centre. If you need to apply, please ask at reception. Why not take a photo of your cards on your phone, so if you forget your cards at home, we can always track them on your phone? 11 12
