As we close another great year on ‘the Hill’, I would like to thank all our faculty and staff for their
dedication and support.
I would also like to thank Cathy Rabon and Jeanie Crotts for their service to the Board and welcome
Allen Dailey and Ashleigh Goza to the Board.

Class Day
The Thomas Sumter Academy Class of 2016 was recognized with many honors and
achievements at their Senior Class Day on Friday, May 20, 2016.
Each year a scholarship is given in honor of Lindsey Kelly, our 2007 Student Body President, to
recognize a senior who exemplifies Christian values in their day-to-day living. Receiving the
Lindsey Kelly Scholarship for 2016 was Adrian Hill.
Each year Sumter County Council honors the outstanding student in 5 subject areas - English,
History, Science, Math, and Foreign Language. These Thomas Sumter seniors excelled in the
following areas:

Each year SCISA awards a prestigious Certificate of Honor to those seniors who have:

attained a 3.5 grade point average in each of seven semesters (9th, 10th, 11th and first
semester of 12th)

Have scored a minimum of 1100 on the SAT or 24 on the ACT
(3)
And are recommended by their school

During the Sumter County Iris Festival, Thomas Sumter Academy was represented by Morgan
Conte and James Edens Rabon in the Iris King and Queen Contest. They also received a $100
scholarship.

The class of 2016 worked very hard on their academic courses and were offered over $4.5
million in scholarships. We are delighted that our seniors have received many generous
scholarships for their college expenses.
The Junior Honor Marshals, who were valuable assistants during all graduation activities, have

The Class of 2016 wholeheartedly extends a huge thank-you to Mrs. Michelle Font and the
parents of the junior class for hosting the reception following the Senior Baccalaureate Service
and also to Mrs. Tanya Eddins and all the other senior parents who organized the Senior
Luncheon. You made graduation very special for our seniors.

The Silver Cup Award
All our awards are special because they recognize huge accomplishments for each of our
students. However, over our 51 years here on ‘the Hill’, the silver cup has come to be the most
coveted award to receive.
The graduate in the senior class with the second highest average over their entire high school
career was our salutatorian Miss Tiffany Elizabeth Daniels.
The senior in the TSA Class of 2016 who had the highest average over their entire high school
career was our valedictorian Miss Elizabeth Alyn Lowe.
The Citizenship award goes to those seniors who exemplify a servant’s heart in their day-to-day
living. This year’s young lady receiving the Citizenship Award was Miss Danielle Grace Young.
Our young man receiving the Citizenship Award was Mr. Taylor Glenn Ray.
The Best All Around award is presented to the seniors who excel in all areas of life on ‘the Hill’.
This year’s Best All Around Girl was Miss Emma Jane Gaulke. This year’s Best All Around Boy
was Mr. Jeffrey Luke Reed.
The Spirit of TSA Award is presented to that member of the senior class whose blood runs
green and gold and loves this school with every fiber of their being. This year the award went to
Miss Samantha Laine Studer.

Middle School Awards
National Junior High Society Service Award goes to the two members who went above and
beyond in volunteering this year. Together they logged in 314 service hours out of a total of 856
for the entire chapter. This prestigious award went to Alyssa Law with 210 hours and Cameron
Dixon with 104 hours.
Seventh Grade Duke TIP is the largest program of its kind in the nation. It identifies
academically talented seventh graders who qualify by scoring in the 95th percentile or above
on standardized test scores. Our seventh graders receiving the Duke TIP award were Caleb
Burns, Sydney Kindsvater, and Ethan Lisenby. Sydney and Ethan also received special state
recognition based on their ACT scores.
The South Carolina Junior Scholar Award is for outstanding intellectual achievement in the
2015-2016 South Carolina Junior Scholars Identification and Development Program. To qualify
for this award, a student must score in the top percentile of the PSAT during their eighth grade
year. The four eighth grade Generals who received this award were:

SCISA George Grice Awards – Dr. George Grice was a founding member of the South Carolina
Independent School Association. He served as Chairman and President during the Association’s
first 8 years. In recognition of Dr. Grice’s contributions to independent education in South
Carolina, SCISA awards a George Grice 8th Grade Scholar certificate. Eighth graders must score
at or above the 90% on any one of the reading or math subtests of the Stanford Achievement
Test and be recommended by the Headmaster.

If you haven’t reenrolled yet but are planning on returning to TSA, please send in your contract
now! We have several grades that are filling up quickly, and our decision to open another
section will be determined by numbers. Please enroll now to be sure your child has a spot!
Schedules will be emailed to students in grades 6-12 within the next couple of weeks. This will
give you enough time to order books.
