for almost everyone. Exhibitions, performances, creative

cultural history, photography,

Umeå is northern Sweden’s largest city with 120,000 inhabitants. Thanks to its university with 35,000 students, the entire
city has a very youthful character. It is also a city that has a
broad and exciting range of things to offer. In 2014, Umeå was
European Capital of Culture.
The city has shopping precincts with malls, unique boutiques and
restaurants. The new Väven House of Culture, situated between
the city centre and the Umeälven River, is an entirely new city
block where cultural expressions intertwine and Kulturtorget is
home to cafés, bakeries and a market.
The waterfront promenade is bordered by parks and floating
restaurants that on summer evenings are packed with happy
guests.
Its many pleasant hotels and other forms of accommodation
make the city a good base for exploring the entire area. Just
outside the city there are places to bathe, recreation areas and
historical sites. Six large rivers also run through the region,
which is why it is known as River Country. Whitewater rafting,
canoeing and hiking are excellent ways of getting to know the
area even better.
