GUIDEBOOK
Freedom is a word, which has been
declinated by every case in the last months.
It is desired by everyone and for many it is
something priceless. But what does the word
mean for us, personally? What value does
it have for us, immersed in consumptivecorporative world? Do we feel that we have
it or not at all? Its multi-dimensionality
doesn’t help in giving easy answers to these
and many other questions. Bu freedom is
what allows us to ask them. Moreover,
it forces us to make choices. It depends
on us how we think and how we realize our
thoughts. Freedom is a source of infinite
possibilities…
You have 5 unique days ahead of you and
your free will as well. How you use that time
is entirely up to you. What will you “develop
a taste” for? What will you experience? Will
you learn something more about yourself?
What will you bring in the lives of other?
What will you share with them? What will
they learn from you? The quality of the next
days will be determined by your choices.
Your heart is free, have the courage to
follow it.

PATHES

We are all unique, have different tastes and different moods. That’s why when creating the programme for SAF we try to include something for everyone here. The
consequence is a huge amount of items on the programme. To help you find the most
interesting propositions, we have create 4 programme paths. The paths refer to specified palette of our preferences, characters and moods. Each one of the paths is of
course a subjective selection done by its curators. To categorize them some way we
have given them names of the four elements:
WATER
Path charted for those of us, who like
more niche kind of things, demanding
focus, reflection and commitment.
Recommended by Andrzej Horyza.
WIND
Path for people who like strong flavours. What does that mean? Rocking,
expansive self-expression, desire to
personally contribute, not only to take
from the others. Recommended by
Tomasz Bogowski.
FIRE
SWAG is just a key word. If you know
it there is a great Chance you will
deem this path the best for yourself.
You are looking for good fun, do not
feel like serious meditation, enjoy,
YOLO. Recommended by Marcin
Młynek.
EARTH
Path created with travellers, worldcurious people, concerned with its
future in mind. Recommended by
Kasia i Łukasz Kaleta.

If you are interested in any of the paths, look for the corresponding icons
in the headlines of particular programme items.

KRZIKOPA, 20:30
Krzikopa bases on traditional sound of
Upper Silesia and mixes them with such
contemporary genres as: electro, metal,
DN’B. Musicians themselves say about
their compositions: Formerly in Silesia
when people felt like dancing a bit, they
gathered in one hut and bandsmen would
play Silesian songs for them, in which there
were all of the elements of the culture of
Upper Silesia. There is nothing like that
today. Krzikopa confronts this situation by
putting cultural authenticity of „Silesian
ditties” into the contemporary meaning of
words „let’s go party”.

NUTEKI 20:30
The band was formed in Moscow in 2007
as an initiative of two blokes from Belarus (Misha & Motya). From the beginning
it was characterized by an one-off style,
called SHOW-ROCK, because of spectacular performances to the music created by
the band. They draw inspiration from everyday life – from real feelings, challenges,
problems and dreams. „If you play rock,
do it right, be creative, break stereotypes”
– this is the credo of NUTEKI. Faith and
hope, that their dream about world-wide
career will come true fuel them, despite
harsh reality they have to live in.

GOORAL, 23:00
No one has to be reminded who Gooral is,
who performed at two years ago. Pieces
from his debut solo album Ethno Elektro
had mightily swayed the festival audience,
and in the corridors for a long time after
one could hear talks of one of the best
concerts in the history of the festival. At
the beginning of 2014 Gooral came back
with a new album: Better Place, sealing
his cooperation with Anną Wiosna Rogowska and Maciej Kamer Szymonowicz.
Gooral is a producer, sound generator
and trendsetter when it comes to combining electro, dubstep and d’n’b with
highlanderness. He performed including
others at the festivals: Woodstock, Open’er, Cooke, Red Bull X Fighters, Sziget,
Colours of Ostrava, before Nowa Muzyka,
Terra Polska and of course SLOT ART FESTIVAL. Here as well Gooral hasn’t said
his last sentence, it’s more like he’s just
beginning to warm up…

BOŽJE OVČICE 20:45
The band was formed in 2009 in Croatian
town Koprivnica. The break-through happened in autumn 2013, when the world
met their first long play album Beee released by polish label Dobry Towar Records from Warsaw. Fast drum parts and
characteristic vocals define the band in
the Hard Core/Punk genre. The band performed many times in Poland, incl. with:
Luxtorpeda, Armia or Maleo Reggae Rockers, giving in total about 65 concerts. For
Božje Ovčice very important is the possibility to play live concerts, because with
their music they send a positive message.
HABAKUK PLAYS KACZMARSKI
21:45
Perfectly known to fans of reggae music
band Habakuk will perform this year at SAF
with a concert dedicated to Jacek Kaczmarski, the greatest polish bard, deceased for
10 years. Released in 2007 A ty siej… (And
you shall sow…) album with songs of Kaczmarski in reggae versions echoed strongly
in whole Poland. It turned out, that lyrics
written by our bard fit ideally to Caribbean
sounds, which has been proved by great
reviews and friendly reception both among
reggae fans and enthusiasts of Kaczmarski’s creations.
The band formed in 1990 in Częstochowa
and ceaselessly shows its best side to the
fans of reggae music and others. For the
band most important was always concerting, in total for all years the band has given
almost 1000 concerts. The band played at
the biggest festival in the world, as a first
band from Eastern Europe – in 2007 they
performed at the British Glastonbury.
O.S.T.R., 23:00
Musician, rapper, composer, producer, violinist. O.S.T.R. started his first experiments
with hip-hop in 1993 r. – still using an old
radio cassette player “Kasprzak” then. It
wasn’t his first contact with music though
– he plays violin since he was a child. He is
a graduate of Academy of Music in Łódź
and a laureate of several renowned contests. His legend was formed mainly thanks
to concerts, during which he improvises,
free-styles (the best in Poland) and has
an lively dialogue with the audience. In
2001 his solo album Masz to jak w banku
came out. In 13 years O.S.T.R. released 15
albums, this year with well-known New
York producer Marco Polo. This is the first
case in which hip-hop musician of this calibre records with Polish artist. O.S.T.R. is

WHITE COLLAR SIDESHOW, 20:45
„Insanity with elements of vaudeville”
– this best describes the performances
of a formation created in 2006 in Fort
Smith, Arkansas (locality known for
gallows). White Collar Sideshow sweeps
audience all over the world with dark,
original atmosphere with elements of
horror. Group consists of: TD Benton –
vocals and drums, Herr Schwein hammers and drums, special effects – Leech,
supported by bass guitar player Faceless
Woman. The band has released an album
called WitcHunt. It is described as extreme, haunted, awesome and spectacular.
MIKROMUSIC, 21:45
Marek Niedźwiecki said about them: “Mikromusic group is completely different
than our whole national musical scene”.
Their music distinguishes itself with nujazz stylistic, reaching for such styles as
jazz, trip hop, pop. From the beginning the
band was rooted for by leading Polish
musicians, not rarely supporting their
work on albums. On their debut disc Mikromusic many valued artists appeared
including Leszek Możdżer, multiinstrumentalist Sambor Dudziński, accordionist
Piotr Dziubek.
Leszek Możdżer, jazz pianist: „We have
to create our own output, we have to
express ourselves in our own language,
we shouldn’t stand in a line of imitators.
In my opinion that is exactly what Micromusic does.” Formation from Wrocław
perfectly proves itself during concerts.
The power of their talent and original
arrangements they create an unique
microclimate, constructing a particular
bond with the audience.
NO LONGER MUSIC, 23:00
Unique message, unusual show, fantastic
contact with the audience – those are the
trademarks of NLM.
Recognized on 5 continents, gathering
fans in dozens of countries, shocking in
their works, living legend – No Longer
Music! The band has performed for the
first time in 1987.at the Festival in Jarocin. With the rise of popularity of NLM in
Poland, their music has been changing,
becoming more and more mature. Artists by creating music at the same time
undertake paratheatrical actions on
stage. What we’ll see can be described
as: post-grunge/psycho-punk theatre. No
Longer Music is not only music and theatre – it’s a passion crossing aesthetical
boundaries. Crossing all boundaries to
carry their message.

rock n’ roll with high riffs and aggressive

solve the problems of everyday life, that

you no matter if you hide in your tent, in
a Cathedral corner or an the top of the
Plane Tree. SloTv is a report on what’s going on at SAF, what the participants do and
what they think. SloTv is a meta-conscioussness of the Festival participants. Come
to find out something about yourself. Every day at midnight on the Main Stage.
Ras Luta is probably the most recognizable vocalist of the reggae scene in
Poland. For 8 years now associated with
Eastwest Rockers, at the same time developing his solo career. At the beginning
of March 2013 his second solo album
Uratuj siebie (Save yourself) came out.
While resting from musical experiments,
that the Eastwest Rockers are known
for, Luta created a very coherent and
noble sounding album, strongly accenting the sounds of live instruments with
vocals excellently produced. Embedded
in reggae tradition material refers to the
roots and rub-a-dub music – classical Jamaican sounds, that the voice of Ras Luta
naturally bonds together with accents
of electronics and r’n’b. The album has
resulted in concerts on such festivals as
Coke Live, Heineken Open’er, Reggaeland,
One Love, Ostróda Reggae Festival and
Hip Hop Kemp.

BLACKBERRY HILL
Blackberry Hill presents music from the
borders of Indie and Folk. They create in
solitude, confronting ideas. They combine elements fitting together, lyrics with
melody, music with image. They value
authenticity and simplicity of melodies.
Exquisite characteristics of the project are
the images, closely connected with lyrics
and atmosphere of the piece, constituting
a bridge between the world of sound
and the world of image. Their debut EP
Silence Speaks For me recorded in 2013
proposes simple arrangements, coloured
here and there with electronic sounds.

dates its beginning at 2012. The chosen
direction, that Eleanor Gray doesn’t want
to define has given birth to the mixture of
several styles of guitar music. Culinary
speaking it is a fresh, healthy and heavily
spiced meal :)

THIS NOISE – hc/rock/punk - playing
since 2012, the representative scene of
Wroclaw. Melodic hardcore punk-rock. To
shake your body and give you energy.
ONE TRILLION DREAMS – emo lyrical punk – Do you want to move and be
moved? Songs for sensitive boys and
sensitive girls. Emo lyrical lyrics and
melodies with hardcore-punk twist. They
formed in 2008 and released one EP
Jeden Trylion Snów (one trillion dreams).

HOPE AGAINST HOPE
- spirit filled hc – They come from hardcore / punk backgrounds but their biggest inspiration is the person of Jesus.
In their music they combine energy and
melody with reality of God in their hearts.
Concrete music with concrete message.
Antiperspirant won’t help, one song and
you will melt.

NIESTETY
– punk – Fortunately there are still bands
that blast punk rock like in the good old
days. And they are not some old hands,
but quite a young crew. Without needless
musical acrobatics. “simply played,
simple rhythm, simple beat, simple
play” quoting the classics of the genre :)
We are not in the opera after all, it’s all
about being loud, fast and to scream out
a couple important things.
FIVE SECONDS TO LEAVE
- post rock Czech skupina, which transfers us into the land of post rock, but we
will find a good deal of sludge, ambient,
drone elements. Psychedelic, compositions dragging in like quick-sand. Penetrating virtually epic atmosphere, comfot.: Mateusz Bilski

FATE
- punky reggae – It’s a band that gained
quite a popularity in the ‘90s on independent scene. Then they rocked exceptionally and now – after a long break – they
come back to performing. In their music
they mix melodic punk rock with elements of reggae. Their lyrics bear strong
message, that doesn’t leave people indifferent, that moves the hearts, and after
all that’s the most important thing!

GARS
- post hc - Hard, dark and trans-y, piercing
vocals and a pinch of melancholy. Sounds
erupting like a volcano but at moments
it’s calm and delicate. Very mature music,
perfected sound and the poetics of lyrics
hit like a 200-hundred-pound hammer.
This music machine rolls slowly, crushing
everything in its way.
REGRES
- hardcore-punk – Sincerity, message, involvement, noise, that brings about a lot
of positive emotions. For many years on
stage, but still with the same passion
and consequence in creating sound, that
move and inspire. Their trademark are
very spontaneous and energetic concerts, during which there is no place for
divisions, exclusion, exclusivity. It’s their
second visit at SLOT and they are very
happy about it.

- interwar folk-punk – The group consists of four musicians with sizeable
experience playing in folk (Bumtralala, Iglika, Południca!), punk (Ziemniaki),
metal (Crowmoth), indie-rock (SuperXiu,
Two Red Triangles)and even electronic
(UnitraProdiż) bands. Together they’ve

SLOT ART CATHEDRAL – THE SPACE OF FREEDOM
“But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being
not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”
Jas 1:25.
Presenting their work:
Grzegorz ”Forin” Piwnicki
graphic designer, Graduate of the Department of Graphics of Academy of Fine
Arts in Warsaw (diploma with merit in
the studio of prof. Lech Majewski 2011).
He experiments with various media. Creates installations, social projects. He has
already published many works in Poland
and abroad as well as numerous individual
projects.
“Project freedom is a grassroots social
action. When I started this project, I thought that I knew what freedom is. I knew
what stood behind it, what is not freedom.
I was wrong. First description went to garbage, it wouldn’t do, because it limited the
freedom of others and I wanted to touch
the essence somehow. This seemingly
easy question became a prison for some
and a sad journey to the unreachable.”
Toruń, Plymouth. She has already gained
prizes and commendations in all-Poland
art and photography contests.
„Subjective space picture series refers
to my own experiences and subjectivity
of events remembered from my past. In
created fragments of painting composition
I find similarities with shapes known to
me or places where I have already been.
I go back to my memories from the past,
spaces where I spent my childhood or
where I have been “for a moment”. The
goal of my works is striving towards such
viewings of space, that in its object relations touched the searches in the field of
generalisation. While painting I try to annex
territories subjectively relevant, enlivening
imagination, which allow me to write in my
own self in the frames of picture representations.”

cross from the point of view of ordinary
man. This way leads through experiences,
that everybody is touched by in his life and
that were not unfamiliar also to Jesus:
fear, burden, resentment, treason, etc.
His ultimate goal was however something

Ewa Boguszewska

from the Department of Painting. Monochromatic paintings, created with traditional ink technique are the attempt to find
the record of the processes taking place
inside, thoughts not yet formed by the

of signs, gestures, set-ups. Specific language of spots opens up a new dimension of
connotations by reaching to the memory,
imagination, spirituality, expresses the
fight between familiarizing and resenting,
integration and separation, calmness and
chaos, silence and the jabber of words.

Broken
dir. Rufus Norris; Great Britain 2012,
runtime: 1:30
Broken is a film examining the force of an
idealised, unrequitted, disappointed and
unconditional love which always remains
strong and overwhelming.
This is a picture of how the fates of
people living in the same street tangle
with each other in tragic, funny and often

WHAT SLOT IS?
SLOT
is a platform uniting people for whom Christianity is an inspiration to get
involved in cultural, educational and social activity. SLOT is more of a movement than
an organization – it’s hard to set the boundaries for ideas, especially when their carriers
are people.
SLOT is a Public Benefit Organization (OPP) – which means that you can donate 1%
of your income tax to support its activities. KRS (National Court Register) number is
0000163877. SLOT – Local Creative Centers Association – does not engage in commercial activity and is not profit-oriented. All of the income is allocated to statutory
activities.

SLOT DNA
This text is an attempt to express what is important for those who create SLOT.
It’s a combination of many different perspectives that partially describe reality and
partially portray dreams and aspirations.
# CREATIVITY AND DEVELOPMENT
We’re interested in creativity. Change, movement and development are
all parts of the art of life that we want to master.
If we decide that we’ve attained those attributes it will be a sign
that we’re lost. We don’t only want to react. The passion, energy, lightness and
beauty we find when we create is missing in reaction.
We need and seek inspiration and we want to be that for others.
# FREEDOM
We offer a standing invitation to be authentic, to be exactly who you are. There is
richness in our diversity.
A second word must be used along with freedom- responsibility.
Responsibility for people and other creatures which live with us
and alongside us as well as for the space we inhabit.
# MEETING
It’s possible to pass by, but it’s also possible to meet.
We choose the latter. We can desire to understand and to be understood.
Out of these options we prefer the first.
SLOT is like a mountain shelter where travelers meet.
Their meeting is important regardless of the path
they’ve chosen or the goal they’ve set.
# LOVE
We base our activities on relationships, friendships and community.
This conscious attempt to look beyond “my wants” or “my needs”
whether as individuals or in groups is most important.
This is what gives meaning to our work.
Love is very practical. It’s the awareness and desire to stop for someone when
everything is pushing us forward. If there is ever a final evaluation
of our lives, without a doubt we will be questioned about this
# GOD
We believe in Jesus. It’s simple but not always the same.
This is our foundation and the deeper we go in it, the more our
inspiration flows for creativity, for justice, for freedom
and to be ourselves with others and for others.
Much also flows from this foundation for those
of us who think and believe differently.
Things get muddled when we forget that “only the important things
are important’, that it’s a journey and not a religion
It’s good to remind ourselves of this then.
