MISCELLANEOUS After a hiatus, Monthly Open Mic Prose is on at the Amazing Grace again. Put on by Lake Superior Writers, and hosted by Paulette Warren, writers will be given around five minutes to speak their piece. The suggested format is to open with a one sentence bio, and then a sentence or two from another writer that you find inspiring. It has no need to be tied to the piece you read, which can be any form of prose. Genre or subject matter is irrelevant, and truthiness need not be considered. If its prose you’ve written, you can read it. Sign up starts at 5:30PM, readings start at 6PM. Monday, June 13. E L P M A S MULTI-MEDIA IMAGES & WORDS Tim White, local artist, photographer, and collaborationist, is releasing his first book of photographs with the assistance of 21 other Northland writers. On Friday, June 17, there will be a catered Swedish dinner at 5:30PM, followed at 7PM by the premier of the verse play Cow Calls in Dalarna by local author Bart Sutter. The musically enthused performance recalls the herdswoman and their pastures in the Swedish province of Dalarna. On Saturday, June 18 at 10AM–5PM local artist Alison Aune and Ross Sutter as well as the Swedish Cultural Society will lead kids and adults in traditional solstice activities and as maypole dancing. In the afternoon, Ross and Bart Sutter will perform with prose and music Greet the Folks at Home, an exploration of immigrant experience. Tickets $5–10, call 940.2292.
