you’re off on an excursion on the Mosel River.
The picturesque village of Bernkastel-Kues is
an irresistible place for a stroll through its
quaint, narrow alleyways. Afterwards there is a
ship excursion on the Mosel to Traben-Trarbach with a passage through the boat locks,
followed by a chance to get some lunch and
enjoy a little free time. Return drive via the
enchanting Hunsrück to Idar-Oberstein.

6th day: Generous breakfast buffet. the Jakob
Bengel industrial monument, the cradle of
costume jewellery, opens its gates for you
today. 2-hour guided tour through the machinery line and the production facilities. Special
art deco jewellery is only produced in small
quantities today. Opportunity for lunch in
Oberstein’s historic Old Quarter. The German
Gemstone Museum awaits you this afternoon
for an informative guided tour of its extensive
gemstone exhibition (approximately 10,000

1st day:
Arrival in Idar-Oberstein in the early afternoon
at the Berghotel Kristall, wonderfully situated
above the Idar city district.
Reception with a cocktail from Ms. Stauch,
the hotel’s director. Enjoy the comfortable
and individually furnished atmosphere of the
rooms, each of which bears the name of
a gemstone.
2.00 p.m.: Pick-up by the local tour guide and
start of the city tour with commentary on its
history, its gemstone industry and its sights.
1st stop is the underground guided tour of the
Steinkaulenberg gemstone mines, where you
can see how the gemstones originate and
grow.
2nd stop is the historic Weiherschleife water
mill with a multimedia show and a demonstration of the traditional processing techniques.
2nd day:
Generous breakfast buffet. Take advantage of
the remaining time before departure for a stroll
through the lively pedestrian zone with its
array of gemstone shops and boutiques, and
explore the Old Quarter against the backdrop
of Oberstein Castle and the “Felsenkirche”,
a church hewn into the living rock.
