How to Connect
(You can do this with any Windows computer with an Internet connection)
1. Double-click on the “My Network Places” icon on your desktop.
2. From the window that opens and under the “Network Tasks” column on the
left side of the window, click “Add a network place.” The “Add Network Place Wizard” will
guide you through the steps of making your connection to the
Xythos server.
a. Step 1: Click “Next” on the first screen.
b. Step 2: Where do you want to create this network place? Select “Choose another
network location” and click “Next.”
c. Step 3: What is the address of this network place? Enter: https://files.fairfield.edu
Click “Next.”

d. Step 4: You will be prompted to enter your network username (e.g., jdoe) and
password. When done, click “OK.”
e. Step 5: What do you want to name this place? Leave the default name
(files.fairfield.edu) in the box and click “Next.”
f. Step 6: At the final screen click “Finish” and your “files.fairfield.edu” storage space
will open up in a new window. An icon for the site will also be permanently located in
your “My Network Places” folder.
How to use your Xythos Network Place
Double-click on the “files.fairfield.edu” icon in your “My Network Places.” Your
“files.fairfield.edu” window will display a series of folders to which you have access. Inside of
“users” you’ll find a folder with your network username which is your private storage space.
Under the “Departments” folder, you may see another folder with your department’s name on it.
This is a folder that your department can use to store files and share them to its members.

To move your files and folders to your Xythos or Department folder, you can simply drag and
drop files and folders from your computer.
You can create new folders using regular Microsoft Windows methods.
You will only see the folders and files to which you have access.
To share folders and files from your Xythos folder, you must use the Xythos web interface. For
