Rigby Herman Sellers Romeo Reyes President/Chief Executive Officer Get Financial Assistance to Weatherize Your Home Johnny Allen Director, Line Services The Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program enables low-income families to reduce their energy bills permanently by making their homes more energy efficient. On average, weatherization reduces heating bills by 32 percent and overall energy bills by about $350 per year at current prices. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 increased the maximum that can be spent on each home to $6,500. The Recovery Act also increased the eligibility criteria to include any household whose income is at or below 200 percent of the poverty level. This means that a family of four making less than $44,000 a year is eligible. This is not a reimbursement program. The funds go directly to weatherization improvements.
