What’s with the name? Rum was New England’s most popular trade item and a favorite drink choice among locals in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Ironically, our name has nothing to do with the famous Latin dance, “the Rumba,” but is actually a Bostonian’s classic pronunciation of “Rum Bar” (the ‘r’ in ‘Bar’ being silent). Brazil Leblon Gosling’s Black Seal 75 Made with Mount Gay’s 3 best vintages, the oldest vintage being 30 years old, this rum was produced to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Mount Gay. Only 3,000 bottles were made. 11 A very light rum with hints of oak and bold vanilla aromas on the nose. Atlantico Private Cask 14 Light notes of vanilla and oak hit the nose and palate and transform into an incredibly smooth offering. Barcelo Dorado 8 A light brown rum distilled from fermented molasses and aged in used whisky and bourbon barrels. Brugal Añejo 14 A blend of rums aged up to 7 years, this rum sits for 3 years in oak barrels and should be enjoyed on the rocks. Rums Dominican Republic Brugal Extra Viejo Guyana 20 This rum has dark fruit, roasted cashew and cinnamon flavors with hints of vanilla and a smoky finish. Matusalem Classico 8 A brown rum distilled from fermented molasses and aged in used whisky and Bourbon barrels. Matusalem Gran Reserva 12 Aged in used whisky and bourbon barrels, this rum’s taste is dominated by vanilla that carries through the body and the relatively short finish. Ron Barcelo Añejo 8 A sightly fruity and dry mediumbodied palate with roasted nut, dark caramel and vanilla bean. Ron Matusalem Gran Reserve 10 Known as the “Cognac of rums,” this 15 year-old Solera blend has a full body and spicy oak finish. Grenada Westerhall 8 Lemon Hart 151 11 An overproof rum with hints of burnt caramel, dark fruit and ripe banana with layers of cinnamon, dark raisin, dried apricot and baked apples. Haiti Barbancourt Estate Reserve 12 Aged for 15 years, this rum’s palate is explosive with cooked pear, citrus fruits, cinnamon and pepper. Barbancourt Reserve Speciale 8 Aged for 8 years, this rum has a rich and harmonious nose of vanilla and pepper with a powerful and complex finish. Jamaica Appleton 12 Year Old Extra 14 Distilled in traditional copper pot stills, this medium-bodied, gold rum is mild and smooth. This amber rum is aged 8 years and has the nose of a strong Cognac. Aromas of dark fruit, brown sugar and leather leave an almost coffee-like sensation in your mouth. British Royal Navy Imperial Rum Zaya Gran Reserva 12 Year Old Rum This rum is from the final stores of Naval Rum commissioned by the British Ministry of Defense for the Royal Navy. Aged in American oak casks, this is a rum without equal, like no other found anywhere in the world. Rums Martinique Clement VSOP Puerto Rico 11 A standard for many years, Clement Rhum Vieux has a very balanced bouquet, taste and finish. Clement Creole Shrubb Bacardi 8-Year Old 9 Slightly sweet, complex, and well balanced with nuances of vanilla, toffee and honey. 10 Bacardi Superior 8 Clement’s most popular liqueur. Unlike liqueurs from other islands this one is bottled at 40% alcohol. A light, clear colored rum aged in oak barrels for 1 year and charcoal filtered before aging for smoothness. Clement XO Bacardi Select 28 A rare blend of aged rums including the highly regarded vintages of 1976, 1970 and 1952. Each vintage brings spice, toffee and tobacco flavors. A bronze-colored rum aged in oak barrels for 1 to 4 years and blended with select aged rums. Charcoal filtered for smoothness. Rhum J.M VSOP Bacardi Reserva Limitada 11 8 30 VSOP has a coppery amber color with decided caramel, chocolate and spice notes on the nose, and Martinique spices and caramel on the palate. With exquisite aromas of vanilla, oak and dried fruits, this rum has a smooth taste and velvety finish. Puerto Rico Gold rum blended with spices, having a pale bronze copper color. Nelson’s has a subdued spicy aroma, with a clean, mild finish. 9 Full body, mellow flavor, aged 1 to 5 years. St. Kitts Bacardi 151 10 Don Q Gold Subtle and alive, it reveals herbaceous aromas of thyme and eucalyptus, then fruity aromas of pineapple and banana on the palate. Rich exotic, complex flavors of coconut and citrus fruits. Plantation Rum, Trinidad, 1993 12 A long, very subtle aftertaste. Rich exotic, complex flavors of coconut and citrus fruits. 10 Cane 12 This rum is a clean tasting premium silver rum that’s best enjoyed in a cocktail where you want to enjoy the rum flavor like a mojito. Hand crafted in small batches in the Berkshire’s first legal distillery since prohibition, this rum is aged in oak barrels before being blended with spring water. Notes of straw, roasted nut and cinnamon round out this truly New England rum. 9 This silky rum features aromas of coconut, banana, meringue and powdered sugar with a warm finish. 13 Made with organic molasses and sugar cane, this silver rum is rich and smooth with aromas of fresh cane, and burnt sugar. Ryan & Wood Distiller’s Folly Cove (MA) 11 Another small batch production, Folly Cove is a molasses based rum, aged in America white oak barrels, leading to its butterscotch notes. Prichard’s Fine Rum (TN) Ron Pampero Anniversario 12 This rum is stored in hand-made charred white oak casks, helping it acquire complex barrel notes. Prichard’s Crystal Rum (TN) 10 8 Aged for 4-8 years in charred oak barrels, bottled directly from the cask without charcoal filtration. Conch Republic Spiced Rum 12 Blended with natural spices, flavors and 24 karat gold flakes. Cruzan Single Barrel 13 Blend of rums aged up to 12 years with a second aging in a single oak cask. Cruzan Estate Dark 13 Rum aged for at least 5 years in charred oak bourbon barrels, deep amber color with a copper cask, medium body. Cruzan Estate Light 8 A light-bodied rum aged for 2-5 years in charred oak barrels and triple distilled. Dry clean taste with vanilla overtones. Cruzan Black Strap 9 The sweet flavor and aroma of blackstrap molasses dominates the character of this Navy-style rum. Sailor Jerry Spiced Navy Rum 9 A blend of vanilla and lime with a spicy, fiery aftertaste. Named after Sailor Jerry Collins (1911-1973), known to be the most famous tattoo artist of his time. This rum is made with the finest, Louisiana molasses and is distilled five times. Triple Eight Distillery Hurricane Rum (MA) 18 Light and smooth from sip to finish, this rum has vanilla riding on top, with a hint of leather, and slight woodiness. The finish is buttery and slightly smoky. Conch Republic Dirty White Rum Berkshire Mountain Distillers Ragged Mountain Rum (MA) 12 Crusoe Organic Rum (CA) A rum with a long smoky wood and spice finish and vanilla bean and baked banana pie aromas. Virgin Islands United States Bully Boy (MA) Diplomatico, Reserva Exclusiva Platinum 11 12 Released during the 2003 hurricane season, this overproofed rum is reminiscent of a strong whiskey. International laws require anything bearing the label of “Scotch” to be distilled in Scotland and matured for a minimum of three years in oak casks. The basic types of Scotch are malt and grain, which are combined to create blends. Bourbon is an American whiskey, distilled and made primarily from corn. The spirit was named after its birthplace in Bourbon County, Kentucky. Bourbon has been produced since the eighteenth century.
