Equipment Safety Safety of the operator is one of the main concerns in designing and developing a new piece of equipment. Designers and manufacturers build in as many safety features as possible. However, every year many accidents occur which could have been avoided by a few seconds of thought and a more careful approach to handling equipment. Many accidents can be avoided by observing the precautions in this section. To avoid personal injury, study the precautions listed in this manual and follow them. • Do not attempt to operate this equipment under the influence of drugs or alcohol. • Review the safety instructions with all users annually. • This equipment is dangerous to children and persons unfamiliar with its operation. The operator should be a responsible adult familiar with farm machinery and trained in this equipment’s operation. • Do not allow persons to operate or assemble this unit until they have read this manual and have developed a thorough understanding of the safety precautions and of how it works. If you have any questions not answered in this manual or require additional copies, please contact your DewEze dealer or Harper Industries. Contact with the spear tips can cause injury or damage to property. Make sure that the area surrounding the spears is clear of obstacles, especially humans or animals. • Replace any CAUTION, WARNING, DANGER or instruction decal that is not readable or is missing. • Make sure all safety pins are in place and flatbed mounting bolts are secure to the truck frame. • Make sure hinges and joints are well greased, especially during off season to prevent rusting and binding. • Check with truck dealer for any load limits, additional suspension or tire requirements. The flatbed’s lifting capability may exceed the truck’s load capacity in some instances. Electric / Hydraulic Safety SAFETY WARNING! Hydraulic system operates under high pressure and escaping fluid can penetrate the skin. • The electric motor has a 60% duty cycle; meaning – if it is used for six minutes, is should be allowed to cool off for four minutes. • Replace hydraulic hoses when they show signs of wear or cracking. Operating Instructions Maintenance Beginning Operation Check Daily or Before Use • • Check hydraulic oil level. • Examine hydraulic hoses for cracks or loose fittings. Make sure that engine is running while operating the Spear Bed. Loading • • Back the truck against the bale with the spears pointing backward and parallel to the ground. Depress LOAD side of rocker switch on hand control until the spears are pointing upward and perpendicular to the ground, allowing complete visibility of the taillights. SAFETY WARNING! Do not check for hydraulic leaks with your hands. Use a piece of wood or cardboard. Hydraulic fluid escaping under pressure can penetrate the skin and may cause death if not treated immediately. Grease • The DewEze Spear Bed has greaseless bearings. No grease is required. Hydraulic Oil SAFETY WARNING! Obstructing sight of the taillights may cause a serious traffic accident. Unloading • • Depress UNLOAD side of rocker switch until bale rests on ground and spears are parallel to ground. Drive away from bale slowly. Storing the spears • Store the spears in the two cylinders incorporated into the toolbox. • Change hydraulic oil when it is milky in appearance, or annually. • In cold weather, the Spear Bed will move slower than normal until the hydraulic oil warms up. Other Maintenance Notes • High heat, 190° or greater, can be damaging to the hydraulic system. Feel various parts of the system to make sure there are no “hot spots” which may indicate a problem. • In the off-season, run the bed at least twice a month condensation. to prevent valve 6 Troubleshooting Problem Symptom Possible Solutions Hydraulic Pump • No Oil Flow • • CHECK OIL LEVEL IN RESERVOIR. If oil level is low, check for leaks in system. CHECK FOR WORN COUPLER BETWEEN PUMP AND MOTOR. Replace coupler. VALVE NOT FUNCTIONING. Check for disconnected wires at solenoid. Replace solenoid coil if it does not engage. Hydraulic Pump No Oil Pressure • • • • CHECK FOR POSSIBLE LEAKS IN SYSTEM. Replace hoses. INTERNAL PUMP DAMAGE. Replace pump. CHECK FOR MALFUNCTIONING SWITCH. Replace switches. PRESSURE RELIEF SPRING IS BROKEN ALLOWING OIL TO BYPASS SYSTEM. Replace spring. Electric Motor Does Not Engage • • CHECK FOR BLOWN FUSE. Replace 200 amp fuse. CHECK FOR BAD SWITCHES IN SYSTEM. Replace switches. Accessories Auxiliary Switch Work Lights • • The Spear Bed hand control has an additional switch that may be used for an auxiliary work circuit. Toolboxes • The Spear Bed includes one toolbox (20” or 30” option) where the E/H Power Unit is mounted. • Additional under-the-bed and acrossthe-bed toolboxes may be purchased from your DewEze dealer. DewEze has available an optional set of stationary or swing lights that provide lighting for the rear of the bed. 420029 215119 220667 BASE END 110539 110671 120243 ROD END 200082 420029 120214 215122 120243 220667 Spear Bed Rockshaft Assembly 100 Series 2 DESCRIPTION CYLINDER MOUNTING TUBE WELDMENT ROCKSHAFT MOUNTING BLOCK BUSHING, 1.25X1X1, SPLIT STL ADAPTER, 6MJ-6MP ADAPTER, 6MJ-6MJ-6MJ ROLL PIN, M5 X 40 mm WASHER, 7/16" LOCK BOLT, 7/16-14 X 2.5 BOLT, 7/16-14 X 1.25 BUSHING, 2-1/4 X 2.0 X 1-1/2 W/FLANGE 200082 3/10/2008 211845 102034 110545 110671 CYLINDER, 2 X 10 CROSS HOSE ASSY, .375 X 9" 6-6FJX / 6-6FJX SPEAR MOUNT ROCKSHAFT WELDMENT, STRAIGHT 110825 4 420029 1 215119 220667 2 211845 1 2 200082 215122 4 120243 16 110671 2 8 110545 2 8 110539 110825 2 102034 120214 QTY PART # Parts List 420029 220667 BASE END 120243 ROD END 120214 120243 220667 Spear Bed Rockshaft Assembly 1500 Series 200082 215126 420029 2 1 4 2 211845 215126 220667 420029 110825 4 2 120243 200082 2 2 110825 120214 8 8 110545 2 102034 110671 QTY PART # 200082 110671 110545 102034 211845 CYLINDER, 2 X 10 CROSS 3/13/2008 HOSE ASSY, .375 X 9" 6-6FJX / 6-6FJX SPEAR MOUNT ROCKSHAFT WELDMENT, 1500 ROCKSHAFT MOUNTING BLOCK BUSHING, 1.25X1X1, SPLIT STL ADAPTER, 6MJ-6MP ADAPTER, 6MJ-6MJ-6MJ ROLL PIN, M5 X 40 mm WASHER, 7/16" LOCK BOLT, 7/16-14 X 2.5 BUSHING, 2-1/4 X 2.0 X 1-1/2 W/FLANGE DESCRIPTION Parts List 132014 220587 120237 110726 540031 223029 500209 110615 120319 110824 211119 150042 110428 202017 230144 211860 211860 232002 211861 710586 110829 110444 110049 110444 232001 230151 211848 211849 110381 110676 110645 215072 110676 110618 110676 215124 211109 110665 110606 110437 110258 212003 110258 FENDER SKIRT Toolbox & Power Unit 211684 215120 110824 3/11/2008 110444 202001 WELD TO BED FRAME HOSE ASSY's 211846 110824 HOSE ASSEMBLIES PART # 220646 220642 220642 220643 220644 220644 DESCRIPTION SPEAR, 48" STRAIGHT TOOLBOX COMPLETE, SPEAR BED DECAL, CHIP GUARD BOLT PACKAGE WASHER, 5/16 X 1.50 FENDER NUT, 5/16-18, CAGE TINNERMAN BOLT, 3/8-16 X 0.75, WIZ FLANGE BOLT, 5/16-18 X 0.75, WIZ FLANGE NUT, 5/16-18 WIZ FLANGE NUT, 3/8-16 WIZ FLANGE WASHER, 5/16" FLAT STANDARD WASHER, 3/8" FLAT STANDARD STEP, TOOLBOX SHIELD, TOP & SIDE TOOLBOX ASSEMBLY, SPEAR BED NUT, 1/4-20 LOCK 2-WAY CLEVIS PIN, STD ZP 1/4 X 1 1/2 PUSH NUT, WASHER CAP STYLE SEAL, LATCH SEAL, TOOLBOX LID (TRIM-LOK X-2897) TOOL BOX MAT GASKET, TOOLBOX MOUNT LATCH W/STUDS, TOOLBOX TOOL BOX DOOR AND HINGE WLDMT TOOL BOX & HINGE WELDMENT, SPEAR BED BED LENGTH 80" 96" 106" 110" 120" 132" PART # QUANTITY 202017 2 205025 1 202001 1 205012 1 110049 8 110258 12 110437 4 110444 14 110606 2 110645 4 110665 4 110676 4 211109 1 211684 1 215125 1 110174 4 110778 3 112011 3 200184 1 202010 1 211119 1 212003 2 212007 1 215072 1 215124 1 PART # 205026 110381 110428 110615 110618 110676 110726 110824 110829 120237 120319 132014 150042 211846 211848 211849 211860 211861 215120 220587 223029 230144 230151 232001 232002 500209 540031 710586 LEFT 211116 211293 211569 211587 1500 SERIES SHORT LONG 211568 211588 RIGHT 211115 211294 DESCRIPTION SPEAR BED KIT BOLT, 3/8-16 X 2.75 BOLT, 1/2-13 X 3.0 NUT, 1/2-13, UNITORQUE LOCK NUT, 3/8-16 LOCK NYLON INSERT WASHER, 3/8" FLAT STANDARD CLAMP, ADEL .75WX.5IDx.406 HOLE BOLT, U-, 5/16-18 X 2-1/2 X 3-3/16 STUD, 3/8-16 X 4.0 ADAPTER, 4BH-4MP ADAPTER, 6MJ-6MB INSULATOR CAP, (ALTERNATOR) HAND CONTROL & CABLE ASSY SPEAR BED TUBE STORAGE BRACKET TOOLBOX ACCESS COVER ACCESS COVER FRAME SPACER, 1.25 X .406 X 2.0 SPACER, 1.25 X .406 X 2.5 SPEAR STORAGE TUBE HOSE, .25 LOLA X 18.0 POWER UNIT, 12V, 3QT BATTERY CABLE, FLATBED E/H BATTERY CABLE, 12" FUSE BLOCK, AMG FUSE, 200 AMP FITTING, REDUCER 3/8 X 1/4 NPT FUEL FILTER SCREW, 1/4 X 1 TEK SELF-TAP FENDER SKIRT 100 SERIES SHORT LONG QUANTITY 1 1 2 2 2 3 1 4 2 1 2 1 1 1 1 1 1 2 2 1 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 4 Toolbox & Power Unit Parts FUSE BLOCK, AMG ROD END BATTERY CABLE POSITIVE RED WIRE FROM HAND CONTROL & YELLOW WIRE IF USING AUXILLARY SWITCH BATTERY CABLE GROUND & BLACK WIRE FROM HAND CONTROL BASE END TO POWER UNIT FROM BATTERY FUSE, 200 AMP GREEN & BROWN WIRES MAY NEED SWITCHING FOR CORRECT ACTION GREEN BROWN POWER FROM AUXILLARY SWITCH IF USED SPEAR AUXILIARY WORK CIRCUIT WIRING DIAGRAM SWITCHES SHOWN FROM BACK ON OFF UNLOAD LOAD Power Unit Wiring Diagram WHITE YELLOW BLACK BROWN RED GREEN 3/11/2008 GREEN BROWN RED BLACK WHITE YELLOW 3 29 WIRING LIGHTS DECALS 100 & 1500 SERIES FLATBED 28’ DECAL, "DEWEZE" SILVER MUDFLAP, NARROW CLIP, WIRE-FRAME 200181 210178 200066 DECAL, SILVER 1/8" STRIPE-BULK GROMMET, OVAL LIGHT LIGHT, STOP, TURN, TAIL, OVAL 232060 232061 202016 HARNESS, REAR I.D.
