Dear Parishioners and Visitors,
Happy Mother’s Day to all!!! On this day that we, as a nation, recognize and thank our mothers, grandmothers, foster
mothers, step-mothers, Godmothers, and all who have been like a mother to us, we also recognize as Catholics that the Church is
in a very real way “mother” to all who are in her family. Like a birth mother, we are reborn through new birth in Baptism, by
the Church our Mother. Like any mother, the Church teaches us right from wrong, encourages us to do what is right, wants to
see us reach our fullest potential, and through the Scriptures teaches us about our history, our heritage. Like any mother who
loves to gather her children around a table and a meal, so we are fed at the table of the altar in Eucharist. Lest we forget how
forgiving mothers can be, so too the Church our mother extends to us constant reconciliation and forgiveness—not just with God
but with each other—through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
We may not always agree with the judgments, opinions or actions of our mothers. We may not always agree with the
judgments, opinion, or actions of the Church—but nonetheless, just as we love our mothers, for better or for worse, so we are
called to love, honor, and speak well of the Church our Mother, and on this Mother’s Day, to remember not only our physical or
biological mothers but our spiritual one as well, the mother who give us birth unto eternal life.
Happy Mother’s Day.
Fr. Michael

Office of Family Life Education (a Hope Appeal
Agency)
Jesus tells us today, “you are my witnesses” and
guarantees the “promise of the Father” to clothe us with the

to others, love of enemies and care for the poor & defenseless.
