(6’ - 20’ typical mounting heights) AeroScape addresses each of the exterior lighting zones and their unique design criteria. The area and site zone require higher lumen sources, mounted at taller heights and spaced widely. Pedestrian zone luminaires are mounted lower and provide higher illumination levels to add emphasis and enhance security. The building and perimeter zones require product designs intimate with physical architectural elements. The egress lighting zones are areas requiring emergency backup systems providing code-required 1 footcandle path-of-egress illumination, from the building up to 10 feet toward the common way. The AeroScape family of luminaires is also compatible with many non-programmable and programmable dimming systems to provide off-peak energy savings, while still providing safety and security for the entire site. www.wide-lite.com 5 Commitment to sustainability Philips Gardco delivers on the promise of supplying the highest quality lighting solutions available with the highest level of customer service. The key to optimum performance is keeping the LED junction temperatures and all other electrical components as cool as possible. The engineers at Philips Gardco use the latest innovations in thermodynamic software to design efficient heatsinks and simulate performance results. Moldflow and thermal analysis modelling ensure AeroScape’s castings effectively dissipate heat and promote airflow. The radial heatsink fins in the LEDgine pods help create a vortex by pulling cooler ambient air from outside the fixture through the vents in the doorframe and upper housing. These radial fins increase air velocity while the passthrough convective cooling system effectively radiates heat out and away from the LEDs and the luminaire. As a result, air flow ensures optimum LED performance, system life and longevity. Vy- Velocity (in/s) Upper passthrough vents Die-cast decorative housing System Reliability IP66 POD assembly Radial heatsink fins increase air velocity Die-cast doorframe Lower passthrough vents 8 www.wide-lite.com Our engineers took an innovative thermal design approach with AeroScape. The LEDGINE pods in the area and site luminaires seal directly to a diecast frame and lens assembly, ultimately creating a dedicated and fully sealed IP66 rated optical assembly. The outer housing and doorframe serve as a decorative shell designed to promote convective airflow with the use of passthrough venting. LED life and its relation to lumen maintenance What is the life expectancy of LEDs today? Solid state lighting has created a paradigm shift in our industry. The lighting community, including luminaire manufacturers now have to contend with four major factors in determining the length of suitable illumination, which is typically defined at 70% lumen maintenance (L70). One - The choice of the LED and performance based on LM-80 testing that defines LED life and lumen maintenance. Two - The luminaire’s thermal management as it relates to LED junction temperature (Tj). Three - The drive current in which the LEDs operate. Four - The outdoor ‘average’ ambient temperature where the LED products are going to be used. All four of these factors have influenced the lighting industry to develop new testing guidelines that combine both engineering and science to accurately predict life expectancy results. Since LEDs have the design expectation to provide useful life for tens of thousands of hours (10-20 years or longer), actual life and reliability testing can only be done for so long before it must be mathematically predicted. What is predicted LED life and lumen maintenance? What is rated system life? Predicted life is the estimated life in hours of an LED product when it reaches 70% lumen maintenance (L70) at a specific average operating ambient temperature. Since an LED product can reach L70 after 10-20 years of operation or longer, Philips Gardco wanted to give designers the ability to properly choose a LED lumen maintenance (LLM) factor for their lighting designs at a predicted life in hours based on their average operating ambient temperature. Rated system life is the minimum life of the complete LED and driver system before maintenance may be required as determined by the luminaire’s thermal management. Typically the limiting thermal factor in an LED product design is controlled by the driver and not the LED. The tables below show that AeroScape reaches a LLM of 0.72 at a predicted life of 104,000 hours, or 28.5 years, based on a 10 hour per day burn cycle at a 40°C (104°F) average ambient. A pulse start HID system reaches a 0.72 LLM at just 8,000 hours or 2.2 years, requiring lamp maintenance to maintain desired light levels. Subsequently you will need to re-lamp an HID system seven times to equal the predicted life and lumen performance of an AeroScape system. The AeroScape family’s robust engineering design and passthrough thermal management system achieves a minimum rated system life of up to 80,000 hours or 21.9 years based on a 10 hour per day burn cycle at ambient temperatures up to 40°C (104°F). Lumen maintenance data is provided for each AeroScape lumen package and can be found in the specification sheets at www.philips.com/luminaires. HID calculations are based upon relative photometry which includes technical data for mean lamp lumens 0.80 of initial and ballast factor 0.90. Note: Actual LED rated life per the LED manufacturer’s L70 curve is 60,000 hrs. Predicted LED life expectancy and L70 lumen depreciation is based on AeroScape’s superior thermal management, actual junction temperature (Tj) and projected L70 curves. Based on IESNA LM-80 methodology, predicted life in years will be extended even further if used with “DD” or “Dynadimmer” dimming options. Actual experience may vary due to field application conditions. Please refer to the spec sheet for the most current predicted life tables as LED LM-80 data is continually being updated. 1. Outdoor ambient temperature is based on annual average operating air temperature as seen by the fixture within its environmental conditions. 2. Junction temperature is calculated from in-situ, solder point measurement per LED manufacturers recommendation, and will vary based on drive current and nominal forward voltage of the LED. 3. Thermal factor is a prorate or derate value based on the in-situ solder point measurement and the relative luminous flux provided by the LED manufacturer. www.wide-lite.com 9 Is LED truly ready for site lighting? The answer is 100% YES. AeroScape’s premium area and site optics were designed specifically for the LEDGINE platform to meet or exceed current IES standards as a true one for one replacement when compared to traditional HID luminaires up to 400 watt - while providing superior energy savings at the same time. Conventional HID optical design LED optical design The one-for-one is achieved by the LED’s ability to more finely tune and control light output. Unlike conventional HID systems, where reflector inefficiency and lumens exiting directly below the lamp result in hot spots and poor uniformity, AeroScape’s specially engineered LED optical systems have the ability to distribute light evenly toward specific target regions Extreme hot spot directly below the lamp and inefficient system due to interreflected flux. according to task. The answer with HID was because you had to, thanks to many limitations when dimming an HID lamp. With LEDs, we can easily control our luminaires to save additional energy during off-peak hours of operation - which can out number peak hours of illumination by 2 to 1 or more. An additional control option that saves energy during off-peak hours is our basic dimming driver (‘DD’) option. When combined with traditional secondary controls like a multi-channel time clock, the ‘DD’ option gives the end user more finite control of when their system will dim to 10% low. When specified, the 0-10V dimming leads will exit the luminaire’s arm assembly for ease of installation. Controls help to extend the life of the luminaire Incentives and utility rebates Because LEDs run at lower temperatures when dimmed, luminaires with controls can prolong the predicted LED life compared to luminaires with no controls. Increased life means less maintenance and a lower cost of ownership. Adjusting light to specific levels may help to obtain LEED innovation points or qualify for utility rebates and national tax incentive programs. www.wide-lite.com 13 How does Dynadimmer work? Dynadimmer is a simple stand-alone smart control system designed to reduce energy consumption by using a variety of preset or custom dimming profiles requiring no internal clock, additional wiring or controls. Everything is based on the midpoint of the time the Dynadimmer configured luminaire peaks, this will vary from summer to winter months. The Dynadimmer configured luminaire will continuously calculate the midpoint of the evening based on its start and stop time. This is known as its dimming profile. Philips Gardco offers three standard dimming profiles and a custom programming option for factory or field commissioning. Midpoint 4-Hour Safety - DS 100 % Light Output The DS profile focuses on safety by dimming during a limited off peak period of four hours - two hours before and after its measured midpoint. BUG rating has nothing to do with tiny little insects The IES has developed a system for comparing outdoor luminaires in terms of controlling back light, uplight, and glare (three types of waste illumination) for distribution patterns in the outdoor environment. BUG ratings will be used more and more by the IES in the future to help promote efficient outdoor LED luminaires. U - Uplight B - Backlight G - Glare UP LIGHT 180° UH Backlight - refers to light directed opposite the target area, which may create light trespass. Backlight is commonly behind the luminaire. BACK LIGHT 100° 100° UL 90° Uplight - is illumination directed above the horizontal plane of the luminaire (90º) which causes artificial sky glow. 90° BVH FVH 80° 80° BH Glare - is the amount of light from the luminaire emitted in directions or at angles that cause glare, which can be annoying or visually disabling. FORWARD LIGHT 30° BL FL 0° Model Lighting Ordinance As our population grows and the need to conserve energy and reduce the amount of overlit environments increases, the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) have come together to develop the Model Lighting Ordinance (MLO) to address the need for strong, consistent outdoor lighting regulation. The MLO guidelines provides two methods for determining compliance, prescriptive and performance within specified lighting application zones. Both methods use the ‘BUG’ rating system to determine approved fixture selections.
