This class uses weights, bands, resistance balls and includes stretching and toning. This is a 60 minute class. This intense class will challenge you using weights, bands, steps and balls, mixed with high impact cardiovascular segments to sculpt your muscles and train your heart. All major muscle groups are utilized. Interval, circuit training, plyometrics and choreography and motivating music are all part of this class! AquaJog: MWF 9:15 am Aqua Jog is a high intensity workout with no impact. This class is held in the deep water with flotation belts worn as support. You need to be comfortable in deep water. Water resistance helps to tone and strengthen muscles while burning calories. The floatation belts are provided by the Y and are required for this class. Deep Water Aquafit: MWF 6:00 am Appropriate for all levels of fitness, this class provides a fun & ever changing workout in deep water. Comfort in deep heo requited. Increase endurance, strength and muscle tone. Silver Splashers: M/TH 9:00 am Splash Class is a low/moderate intensity class designed for improving flexibility while toning, strengthening and improving the function of the heart and lungs. Little Rollers (Level I, II, III) (ages 3-5) This is the beginning of their gymnastics sport. These classes are for both boys and girls where kids will develop balance, agility, using the vault, balance beam, uneven bars and floor. Each child will practice in all four events. When registering, sign your child up for the appropriate skill level. This is for boys or girls who are just beginning or have tumbling skills that need improvement. We will also put an emphasis on strength and flexibility. Mondays 5:30 - 7:30 pm $7/$14 SPORTS NFL YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL Come out and play in THE BEST Youth Flag Football league in Wooster. The YMCA NFL Flag Football League is fun and exciting for all ages. We’re committed to providing fair and exciting games, week after week, in a playing environment that is safe and fun! Age groups are 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. Games are played on Saturdays at Northview Alliance Church. Reversible NFL jerseys are provided for the kids. League Begins September 7th!!!! August 31st-October 20th, games start @ 9:00 am. Registrants will be broken down into age groups and will compete to have the most total points. Prizes will be given out to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each age group. The YMCA of Wooster is offering a great coed volleyball leagues for adults and teens. Ages for the league are 16 and up. The games are played on Monday and Wednesday starting at 6:00 pm. Register today to reserve your spot. May 22nd–July 10th 6:00-9:00 pm. Cost: $170 per Team YOUTH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE The YMCA Youth Volleyball is growing in excitement and number of participants. We are looking forward to another successful session and we want you to be a part of it. The league continues to grow and so does the competition. NEWCOMERS WELCOME. The league places an emphasis on developing the skills of the players and teaching them the basics. The League is set to start on Tuesday June 11th, 2013. The league is a 7 on 7 league where up to 10 people can be on a team. Games will be 40 minutes long and will be split into two 20 minute halves. Flags and footballs will be provided. They will learn alternating kicking, blowing bubbles, and alternating arm motion. Emphasis will be on putting their faces in the water. Tues/Thurs 9:00 am & 5:30 pm EEL EEL’s are working on swimming independently at least five feet on their front and back in a horizontal position. The child should be comfortable submerging underwater. This class concentrates on back floating independently and kicking on back while swimming. Sitting dives and diving safety are introduced. In order to move up to RAY a child must be able to swim 15 feet by themselves both on their front and back. Tues/Thurs 9:00 am & 5:30 pm June 3 – June 14 June 17 – June 28 July 1 – July 12 July 15 – July 26 July 29 – August 9 OUTDOOR SWIM LESSON Location: Christmas Run Pool $30.00 PARENT/CHILD (Ages 6-35 months) The purpose of Parent and Child swimming lessons is to make both parents and children comfortable in the water. The child learns about a new environment, while the parent learns how to teach the child to be safe in the water. Classes are designed so the child has fun while the parent urges the child to respond to simple commands that pertain to basic aquatic skills. Mon/Wed 10:00 am & 5:00 pm RAY RAY is for students who have experience swimming and taking lessons. They can swim 15 feet in prone position with face in the water, and are able to begin freestyle while swimming the front crawl, and back float independently. Rotary breathing is introduced and emphasized. Diving, elementary backstroke, and survival skills are introduced at this level. In order to move up to STARFISH a child must be able to swim on length of the pool (25 feet) on both their front and back. Tues/Thurs 9:00 am & 5:30 pm STARFISH STARFISH is for children who can swim 25 feet with their face in the water independently. Rotary breathing is strongly emphasized, as is a continued emphasis on diving, elementary backstroke, and survival skills. Swimmers learn to swim a complete lap of the pool (50 feet) unassisted on both their front and back. Tues/Thur 9:00 am & 5:30 pm PROGRESSIVE (Ages 6 – 16) POLLIWOG POLLIWOG is for children with no previous experience and /or hesitancy in the water. Children will learn alternating arm stokes and flutter kick using kick boards while covering a distance of 10-15 yards. They will also be introduced to paddling and kicking on their back. The curriculum includes bubble blowing, putting entire face in the water, bobbing and an introduction to floating both on front and back. Tues/Thurs 9:30 am & 6:00 pm GUPPY GUPPY focuses on rotary breathing. The freestyle and backstroke stokes are refined. Concentration is on endurance and strength to accomplish swimming 25 yards on the front and back. By the end of GUPPY, students must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle demonstrating rhythmic breathing and 25 yards of backstroke in order to advance to MINNOW. Tues/Thurs 9:30 am & 6:30 pm MINNOW MINNOW level students must be able to swim front crawl and backstroke 25 yards without stopping. Concentration is on front crawl with coordinated freestyle and rotary breathing. In this level, students must have very good freestyle and backstroke because they will be swimming up to 50 yards continuously. They will be introduced to breaststroke and using symmetrical arms, which is one of the competitive strokes. In order to move up to FISH, the child must be able to swim 50 yards of freestyle, 50 yards of backstroke, and 25 yards of breaststroke. Tues/Thurs 9:30 am & 6:30 pm FISH In FISH level there is continued stoke development of freestyle, back crawl and breaststroke. Children begin to learn butterfly and flip turns. Emphasis is on stroke refinement and building endurance. The child must be able to swim 75 yards of freestyle. Backstroke, and breaststroke and 25 yards of dolphin kick (15 feet of butterfly) in order to progress to flying fish. Tues/Thurs 6:00 pm FLYING FISH Students with a very strong swimming ability may enroll in FLYING FISH. This class is for experienced swimmers who are able to swim freestyle with rotary breathing and proper backstroke for 75 – 100 yards continuously. The breaststroke will be refined as well as a continued introduction to butterfly, the final of the competitive strokes. 6 YMCA OF WOOSTER Instructors will also teach diving and flip turns for freestyle. Tues/Thur 9:30 am & 6:30 pm JR LIFEGUARD CLASS Participants learn many basic lifeguarding and first aid skills. All participants will be first aid and CPR certified at the conclusion of the class. Must be able to swim 50 yards freestyle Member cost: $135.00 Non-Member cost: $150.00 June 10th- 13th 9:00am-2:00pm with a hour for lunch each day. Bring your own Lunch SUMMER STROKE CAMPS Come Learn all four competitive strokes and compete in a mini meet. July 15th-19th 1:00-3:00 Members: $60.00 Non-Members: $80.00 SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING CLASSES: TBD please check website for details WATER POLO SESSIONS: TBD please check website for details DIVING CLINICS: TBD please check website for details Y DAY CAMP Y-Day Camp is a traditional day camp program that allows our campers to experience everything that our camps have to offer. This on-site camp is packed with daily swimming and instructional sports to science, nutritional classes, arts, music and much more to keep our campers engaged and excited everyday. Our caring staff are specially trained in first aid and CPR. Each week is themed and our campers will go on an all-day exciting trip in our area. Children will participate in both small and large group settings that present children with the opportunity to grow personally and socially, develop skills for meeting new friends, to learn and understand the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. And of course—HAVE FUN!! Dates: May 28-Aug 16 Time: 6:30am-6pm (Camp 9-4) Grades: K-6th Cost: $130/Non-Member Weekly $110/Youth Member Weekly $85/Family Member Weekly $25.00 Registration Fee www.woosterymca.org KNIGHTS FIELD SUMMER CAMP Knights Field Summer Camp is a YMCA & United Way supported camp located at Knights Field Playground!! This year at Knights Field each week’s activities, games, crafts, guest speakers and field trips will be based on a new theme. For those campers who are NOT on free and reduced lunch, there is a weekly $10.00 fee. Proof of free and reduced lunch must be shown at time of registration. All campers are required to pay a $10 registration fee. This year Knights Field campers will be swimming at Christmas Run Pool and must purchase a pool pass from Wooster Parks & Rec.. Breakfast will be held on camp site and lunch at Cornerstone Elementary. We look forward to serving you at Knight’s Field! Dates: June 3rd-August 9th Time: 9am-4 pm Grade: K-6th Cost: $10 Reg. Fee for All Campers & Pool Pass $10 fee per week for those not on free and reduced lunch LUK LAUNCH PAD DAYCARE Ages - The facility will accommodate age 6 weeks to 5 years, as well as school age K - 6th Grades. Gross Motor Play - There is a large muscle room for the children to utilize in inclement weather and at scheduled times throughout the day. An outside playground is also available. This area includes several climbing units, area for bikes and open areas to run and play. Meals - Children that are able to eat table food will be provided with two meals and one snack each day: breakfast, lunch and snack. The LuK Cafe will prepare lunch. Each meal will meet the requirements set forth by the state. Infant/Toddler Meals - Children using bottles and eating baby food will need to have their formula and food provided by parents. The center staff will be able to warm bottles and food if needed. Rest Time - The center will provide each child a crib or cot for rest time. All cribs and cots will be labeled with the child’s name. Sheets will be provided by the center. The Preschool - The center will provide a learning program for children in the preschool years during the morning hours. The program will be planned by using themes, objectives and evaluations. We have three preschool rooms: A room for young three (3 year old room); a room for older threes and young fours (4 year old room); and a room for older fours and young fives (Pre-K room). Infants/Toddlers - Children from infancy through the toddler years will also be challenged in a variety of activities to assist in their developmental needs. We have three infant rooms and two toddler rooms. The children are grouped by age to help meet their needs at each stage of their development. A daily report will be given to parents upon departure. Staffing - The state sets up specific guidelines that all staff must meet. In addition, the YMCA focuses on four core values - CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY. When hiring we look for individuals that will support our values and will provide a loving, safe, nurturing and educational environment for the children. There are trained staff in First Aid, CPR, Communicable Disease and Child Abuse on site at all times. License - The center is licensed through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Cleanliness - As a center and staff we will also be committed to provide a clean and organized environment. Cleanliness does not mean children cannot have some messy fun. We will provide all types of learning experiences, even messy ones!! YMCA of Wooster After School In YMCA of Wooster After School care, kids engage in physical, learning and imaginative activities that encourage them to explore who they are and what they can achieve. In addition to supplementing what they have learned in school, they participate in interactive learning models that engage critical thinking skills, get assistance with their homework from trained YMCA staff, have a chance to socialize with each other and form long-lasting friendships that enhance their development, growth and self-confidence. The Spot! offers a different and unique alternative to your basic after school program. The Spot! offers tutoring and mentoring through College of Wooster volunteers who are there to assist your youth. With The Spot! being focused on educational & self improvements, we also have numerous youth and teen programs available to its members. The programs offered from The Spot! promote the YMCA’s ideals of strengthening one’s spirit, mind, and body. Located at Cornerstone Elementary SPOT Summer Camp, Open 9am-4pm Daily, June 3-August 9th $10 per child reg. fee & Summer Pool Pass required thru the Wooster Parks & Rec. Some extra fees apply for field trips and those not on free and reduced lunches. Scholarships 8 available at the YMCA of Wooster. **Some field trips may require extra money. Grades: K-12th MOMMY & ME FITNESS CLASSES Interested in helping your child develop cognitive, social and gross motor skills? Interested in fostering new friendships or just need interaction with other adults? The Y will begin offering Mommy & Me fitness classes- a great place to bond while getting in shape!! Join us every Wednesday at 10:30am for a 45 minute exercise class designed especially for parents and children. Four sessions- Thursdays at 10:30am Location: TBA Ages: 2yrs-5 yrs Class starts: Thursdays, April 18th Members-$18 Non-Members-$30 MOVIN MOMMAS Movin Mommas will meet at the YMCA for a short run/walk with your stroller. Strengthening and toning exercises will follow. The group will meet on Tuesday and Thursday Mornings at 9:00 am. 60 Minute class $20/Member $40/Non-Members AWAY program - This program allows members who are traveling to another city outside a 60-mile radius to use the local Y free, or at a reduced rate. If using a visiting pass more than three times a month, a Wooster YMCA membership should be purchased. Day Passes - Day passes, which entitle you to use the pool, gym, weight room, and racquetball courts may be purchased at either building. A waiver must be signed by a parent for members under 18. Building Rentals - The Woodland Avenue facility and the Ellen Shapiro Natatorium are available for rental use. Whether it is for a birthday party, meeting, youth overnighter, or whatever the occasion, the Woodland facility houses a conference room, multi-purpose room, gymnasium, racquetball/wallyball courts, and more. Call for prices for your birthday party, family function or company organization. Nonprofit organization rates available. Babysitting - Babysitting is a free service for members. The Woodland Avenue Program Center has babysitting available Mon - Fri mornings 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. and Mon -Thurs evenings 5:00 - 8:00 p.m for infants through age six. This service is to be used when the adult bringing the child will be using the workout facility or taking a class on the premises of the YMCA Woodland Avenue. Non members may purchase a babysitting card at the front desk. YMCA OF WOOSTER www.woosterymca.org MUSIKGARTEN CLASS Musikgarten is the leader in early childhood music education - for children and we are bringing it to the Y! Through a certified teacher- we will offer a complete program that helps toddlers and children develop a deep love of music and the ability to express it. Involve the whole family in this fun and energizing 30 minute class!! Wednesdays (six week sessions) SESSION I: June 5th -July 10th 9:30am to 10am SESSION II: July 17th - August 21st 9:30am to 10am All classes will continue to be from 3 months to 3.5 years YMCA Members: $30 Participant $42 (per session) FAMILY NIGHTS in conjunction with Wooster Recreation and Community Service July 3 Family Cookout Location: Christmas Run Pool fee: $2.00 individual $5.00 Family August 2 Flick and Float Movie Night Location: Ellen Shapiro Natatorium fee: $2.00 individual $5.00 family Weather Closing Policy - If Wooster City Schools close for weather involving dangerous road conditions all YMCA classes are cancelled until Noon. All YMCA facilities will remain open for walk in use only, but there will be no babysitting provided. If there is a level 3 emergency all YMCA facilities will be closed. Concealed Weapon - It is illegal to carry a firearm, deadly weapon, or dangerous ordnance anywhere on the YMCA of Wooster’s property. Unless otherwise authorized by law, no person shall knowingly possess, have under the person’s control, convey, or attempt to convey a deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance onto these premises. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE The YMCA of Wooster is committed to providing assistance through “scholarship” programs and memberships to any youth or family with a true financial need. Funds made available for financial assistance are provided through United Way, YMCA fundraising, and grants. PROGRAM REFUND POLICY Request made prior to the first class -- 100% Request made after first class -- 50% Request made after the second class -- No Refund Cancelled Programs -- 100% refund or amount may be credited towards another course. Once credit is chosen, no refunds are made.
