SPRING HAS SPRUNG!
Our Featured Vendor:
• Rebecca Pettis of
Hoggyʼs Catering
As the wedding season approaches, it is time to look through the bridal magazines and
discover all the new trends and fads in the industry. We take it one step further by attending The
Special Event and the Tents & Events tradeshows. We get the inside scoop by speaking directly to
trendsetters and manufacturers!
Inside LI:
• 2007 Open House!
• Welcome Kevin Carty!
Colors: Black & White is always elegant, but it is back in a big way! Pairing black & white with a
bright color for accents is all over the fashion runways. Also, lavender, purple, and blues are coming
back around. Jody Dully is predicting navy blue to be the big color for 2007 weddings. We are
stocking up on some new linens for the spring that follow this trend.
EVENT CALENDAR
Food: Bite-sized food is still big! Tapas-style servings are taking over traditional meat & potatoes.
Small plates are the rage, and we have just received several new tasting dishes perfect for this trend...
square, round, funky, almond-shaped... perfect for your tiny plate needs.
Smells: As we have reported in the past, scents are transforming atmospheres in all sorts of venues.
Using scent machines is an unique way to create a mood without your guests even realizing why they
are feeling great! Pump in an ocean scent or the smell of fresh-cut grass, the scent of cookies baking
or go with a theme... maybe the smell of hay in a horsebarn for a western event. We have the equipment to do this and thousands of scents are available.

Featured Vendor
This month we feature
Hoggy’s
Catering
We spoke with Rebecca Pettis,
Regional Director of Catering.
Q) How long have you been with Hoggy’s?
A) Thatʼs a trick question! I started with
Hoggyʼs in April 2000 as a server and was
promoted to a supervisor. I had a brief
hiatus (7 months) and then returned in
March of 2004. So almost 7 years.
Q) How long has Hoggy’s had an official
catering business?
A) 11 years
Q) What kind of events do you cater? Are
you more than just barbecue?
A) Of course we are more than just BBQ!
We can cater anything. We hear that
question a lot, but we have done many
non-BBQ events that have been fabulous. We are very versatile. Weddings, Corporate events, Graduation Celebrations, Bar
Mitzvahs, Cocktail Parties, Open Houses,
and, of course, Pig Roasts.
Q) What is your favorite type of event to
cater? Do you have a specific event that
was your favorite?
A) I prefer the bigger events. I love the
Little Brown Jug in Delaware, where we
feed 4000 people. I also loved the huge,
beautiful wedding we did together last fall!
Q) How many Hoggy's restaurant
locations are there? Where are they?
A) There are 7 locations. In Columbus at
Polaris, Gahanna, Grandview, Grove City,
Dublin. Also in the Cleveland area at
Valley View and a location in the Northern
Kentucky / Cincinnati area.
Q) Like us, you have been opening a new
location in Cleveland. What kind of
challenges are you facing from opening a
new catering branch in a new city?
A) Getting our name out and showing
people that we can do events that extend
beyond BBQ.
Q) After a long day, where do you like to
enjoy happy hour? What is the cocktail of
choice?
A) Happy Hour? I am not sure I remember
what those are like. Usually something on
the Martini side when I do get out!
Q) What CD is currently in your stereo?
A) Books on CD, James Pattersonʼs “Life
Guard”
Q) What was the last movie you saw?
A) I donʼt watch movies, I fall asleep.
Q) Any pets?
A) Kaiser, my black lab / rottweiler mix. Who is my baby!
Q) Anything else you'd like to tell us?
A) We are one of the great catering secrets
of Columbus... and now Cleveland! People have a misconception of our
abilities. Over the past 3 years, we have
worked to take our business to the next
level. We are successful because we donʼt
take short cuts on our food or service. We do... it was 10°.
We were up to the challenge when a
bride came to us with the wish of a
tented wedding in February. However,
we were not expecting the cold spell
that ripped through Columbus that week!
Despite the cold and snow, a successful and warm wedding reception
occurred on the snow white lawn of
the Columbus Country Club.
Having a sense of nature was very important to
the bride & groom. Clear walls allowed the party
to look out on the wooded lawn. Our own Brian
Ford designed & constructed a custom sculpture
made of trees to hang over the dancefloor.
From the happy couple: “We want to thank
you for all the effort you put into making us
have our dream tent wedding in the middle
of February! The tent was absolutely amazing. It wouldnʼt have happened without you
and your team.”

Hoggy's for their event?
A) We treat ever customer as they are our
only customer. We will help you do
anything that you need, not just the food. We truly are full service!

2nd Week of February?

LI Welcomes Kevin Carty!
NEW CHARGERS!
We are thrilled to welcome Kevin into our Props, Decor, &
Production Department. Kevin has worked for many years in
the event industry as an art director and production manager.
Most recently he has been working under the name ACE
Events. Kevin has scenic painting, directing, teaching, and
acting experience. Among the many theatre houses he has
worked are the local favorites BalletMet, Opera Columbus,
CATCO, and the Columbus Childrenʼs Theatre.
Kevin is adding to LIʼs already diversely experienced staff. Along with Brian Ford and
Barney Bargmann, our Props, Décor, and Production Department is growing in size and
ability. Lighting, backdrops, and custom props are overtaking our warehouse! In fact, this
department will be moving into its own space this month.
Please help us make Kevin feel at home here at LI! Introduce yourself at our upcoming
open house.
Kevin can be reached at kevin@lirents.net.
