A Letter from Jeff Wigley, PSAI President
PSAI President’s Message:
Dear Friends,
The PSAI has made a multitude of improvements
and enhancements as we build a firm foundation for
the future. With a new and improved website, and
tiered membership benefits built to meet the needs
of Portable Restroom Operators and Suppliers of
every shape and size, the WORLD now knows of
these accomplishments. I firmly believe that our
Association is stronger and more vibrant than at any
time in our history.
The complete overhaul of the PSAI website was a
major goal for 2013, and I hope that everyone has
had the opportunity to experience “PSAI.org.”
This will be the primary communication vehicle for
the PSAI both now and in the future. From Industry
News, Convention and Meeting information,
Certification programs, and Member benefits, the
website is “the place to go to get in the know.”
The new PRO Member Locator has received the
most positive reviews from Members. Potential
customers can enter their zip code, and a list of
PSAI Operators in that area will appear with name,
address, phone number and website information.
In addition, “Certified Employees” are listed for
those companies that have employees that have
completed PSAI Certification. Finally, for eligible
Silver, Gold, and Platinum Members, “Certified
Company” designation will also be included.
Website reviews have been extremely favorable
… “inviting” … “easy to navigate” … “a very
professional representation of our Association” …
“informative and interesting” … “fresh and new.”
The PSAI continues to grow and change to meet
our Members’ needs and the Convention & Trade
Show in Myrtle Beach is no exception. We’ve
got a jam-packed schedule of events starting on
Wednesday, November 6. Join us for a tour of
Brookgreen Gardens (www.brookgreen.org), or
test your golf skills against other PROs in our annual
golf tournament at the Myrtlewoods Palmetto
Course (www.myrtlewoodsgolf.com). That evening,
all PSAI Members in good standing are invited to
attend the Board Meeting. Please join us as we
“ROLL UP OUR SLEEVES” to further improve
the PSAI.
Thursday, November 7 boasts speakers and
Roundtables – check out the full schedule on pages
5-9 of this catalog for more information. At the
conclusion of the President’s Reception, a Trade
Show “Sneak Preview” kicks off the end of the day.
On Friday, November 8, the PSAI kicks off the
Convention with an inspirational and educational
workshop by PSAI International veteran, Lothar
Vermillion. This is not to be missed! Walk the
show floor during the day, and don’t forget about
the cash prizes at the PSAI Booth! Finally, join us at
Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville that evening
(www.margaritavillemyrtlebeach.com) – who
doesn’t enjoy a good margarita?
On Saturday, November 9, as always, we host a PSAI
Certification course and enjoy the final day of the
Trade Show. Additional Workshops and Roundtables
run throughout the day. Be sure to stop by the PSAI
Booth, too, where we’d love to meet you in person
to learn more about your company.
The PSAI is the only trade association specifically
serving the portable restroom industry. With over
40 years of service, we are continually evolving to
meet the needs of our Members. We look forward
to seeing you in Myrtle Beach and please start
planning for our Convention & Trade Show in
Nashville next March 2014!
Sincerely,
Jeff Wigley

Paul Butler
Client Partner with Newleaf
Training and Development
Paul Butler is on a mission to demystify the language of business
finance! During this interactive and fun (yes, we did say fun!)
keynote address, Paul will help you better understand the income
statement, the balance sheet and the statement of cashflow.
Using real-world examples and simple ways of explaining complex
points, Paul will help owners and employees better understand
the language of business and your money-making model. He’ll
also present innovative ways of looking at your business using key
performance indicators and a balanced scorecard.
Paul Butler is a client partner with Newleaf Training and
Development, and since 2006 has served clients in 28 states,
China, India and Western Europe. His clients include: Caltech,
JPL/NASA, Pepperdine, CB Richard Ellis, BP ARCO and
Lockheed Martin.
Originally from England, Paul is a Chartered Global Management
Accountant (equivalent to a Certified Public Accountant). Prior
to starting Newleaf Training and Development, he worked for
Marriott Hotels as a Regional Finance Director overseeing
48 hotels in the United Kingdom. Paul also served as the

50 percent!

Event Speaker: Scott Waddle
Thursday, November 7 · 10:00 a.m.
“Failure Is Not Final”
Scott Waddle
Commanding Officer
What is the true measure of a man? Is it the number of wins
against losses, triumphs over failures, how many or how few
mistakes are made? The truth is we have all made mistakes,
learned from them and moved on. But what does one do when a
mistake is made that has life-altering consequences? The kind of
mistake that sends out ripples that extend far beyond the shore?
Those ripples can then turn into huge swells that come crashing
back, to engulf you, every day of your life.
An inspirational leader with uncompromising ethical standards,
Scott Waddle graduated at the top of his class at Annapolis.
With 20 years of experience in the construction, maintenance
and operation of nuclear-powered submarines, in 1998 he
was handpicked from a highly competitive field of 250 naval
officers to command the improved Los Angeles class Fast Attack
nuclear submarine USS Greeneville. As commanding officer
of Greeneville, he managed a 140-man crew. On the fateful
day of February 9, 2001, Commander Waddle’s life was forever
changed when he gave the order to perform an emergency
surface maneuver that inadvertently caused the nine-thousand
ton submarine to collide with the Ehime Maru, a five-hundred ton
Japanese fishing vessel, killing nine people on board. Against
the advise of his attorney and the Navy’s direction, he took
responsibility for the accident. Commander Waddle’s compelling
story about a tragic ordeal and the choices that followed is a
lesson about integrity and resilience.
Scott Waddle, a native of Austin, Texas, graduated from the
United States Naval Academy in May of 1981 earning a Bachelors
of Science degree in Chemistry. Following graduation he was
commissioned an Ensign and embarked on a twenty-year career
in the submarine force where he served aboard Atlantic Fleet
trident ballistic missile boats Alabama and Kentucky and Pacific
Fleet fast attacks San Francisco and Greeneville.

Bill Gibson
JAG Mobile Solutions
“I is who I say I is...or is I?” What your brand says or doesn’t say
about your company & how to affect it. This workshop presented
by Bill Gibson of JAG Mobile Solutions will address today’s
marketing issues faced by portable sanitation companies, from
sole proprietors to major corporations. His session will discuss
company/brand identity, internet and website relevance, the
ABCs of service marketing, measuring results and much more.
Attendees will leave this seminar with company-specific,
actionable information that will actually help their organization
and be affordable. Content received will be directly usable by the
attendees themselves or with only minimal outside professional
assistance. The seminar will have something for everyone from
the basics of marketing to more involved strategy including a
Q&A period.
Bill Gibson received Bachelor of Science degrees in Electronics
Engineering and Marketing from Franklin University’s Columbus
Ohio campus and a Masters of Business Administration degree
with a focus in marketing from West Virginia University.
For more than 15 years after earning his masters degree, he

Workshops
Friday, November 8 · 9:00 a.m. – Lothar Vermillion
“International Differences in Portable Sanitation”
International standardization
for portable sanitation is a
hot topic – and this workshop
is guaranteed to jump start
the PSAI and our Members to work together more
closely to influence and create change around the
world for the industry.
Lothar Vermillion will lead a discussion focused on
the requirements of services and products relating to
the “deployment of cabins and sanitary products” –
including international standardization (ISO), national
standardization organizations (ANSI, DIN, BSI,
AFNOR, AENOE-CEN, etc.) and European Standards
(EN 16194).
Discussions among PSAI members have shown that
the portable sanitation services and products in the
U.S. and Europe are very much alike. During this
active session, attendees will work together to record
the major operational differences in areas that have
different demands and require a different approach
by the industry, and will include a Q&A session.
A Past President of the PSAI, Lothar Vermillion has
been a leader and expert in worldwide portable
sanitation issues for over 30 years. From 1983
until 2005 he was Group Managing Director and
Partner at ADCO International, the largest portable
sanitation business worldwide. He has held various
board and committee chairman functions with BDE
(German Federal Waste Management Association),
IPSWG/EPSWB (International European Portable
Sanitation Working Group), and DIN/CEN (German
/ European Standardization Committees). Today,
Lothar continues to consult on international portable
sanitation issues.
Saturday, November 9 · 9:00 a.m. – Wes Tuttle
“Alternative Fuel Vehicles”
In this workshop, Wes will
review the most current
offerings in alternative
fuel vehicles. There will be
an overview of options for medium duty trucks,
including some of the challenges of operating these
vehicles in a service operation. A brief snapshot of
what is in development and what it means for our
industry in the future will also be covered in
this discussion.
8
Wes Tuttle is Truck General Manager for Satellite
Industries. He has 20 years of experience related to
vacuum trucks used in the portable sanitation and
septic truck industries. At Satellite, Wes oversees
the manufacturing, sales and service of all vehicles
produced. His vast field experience has taught him
the benefits and limitations of aluminum, stainless
and mild steel tanks, configuring and repairing
vacuum systems and familiarity with all the leading
truck chassis designs, features and benefits.
Round Table Discussions
Networking
Sharing Information
Industry-specific Issues
What better forum than a round table discussion?
The PSAI has held round table discussions as part of the
Convention & Trade Show for over 30 years. During this time,
they have become one of the best forums for getting to know
other PSAI Members, exchanging ideas, finding new answers
to old concerns, and generally broadening everyone’s horizons
and perspectives.
Round table topics give owner/operators, management,
service technicians and office personnel the opportunity to
discuss industry-specific issues as they pertain to the day-today operation of a portable sanitiation business. Participants
experience a wide variety of viewpoints, and informational
handouts may be distributed, depending on the topic.
Conversations are open, but guided by a Round Table Captain,
often a PSAI Board Member or Past President, who leads as an
industry expert, keeps the conversations on track and ensures
everyone at the table gets a voice in the discussion.
Subjects of round table discussions in
Myrtle Beach may include:
• Creative marketing
• Image and quality control
• Trucks & pumps: managing repair costs
• Drivers: hiring, firing and training issues
• Good agricultural practices
• Tiered membership benefits
• PSAI website
• General membership Q & A
• Company Certification
Discussions can also be led between
members with companies of similar size
to ensure relevant for the attendee:
• Under 500 units
• 500 – 1500 units
• 1500 – 3000 units
• Over 3000 units
We look forward to seeing you in Myrtle Beach at the Round
Table Discussions. Detailed information about topics and location
will be available at the registration booth prior to the show, and at
the PSAI booth during the show.

Tour: Brookgreen Gardens
(www.brookgreen.org)
Brookgreen Gardens, a National Historic Landmark, located between Myrtle
Beach and Pawleys Island, South Carolina, encompasses more than 9,000
acres in the South Carolina Lowcountry. The three main features of Brookgreen
Gardens are the Huntington Sculpture Garden, the Center for American
Sculpture, and the Lowcountry History and Wildlife Preserve.
The Huntington Sculpture Garden opened in 1932 as America’s first public
sculpture garden. The collection now contains over 1400 works, and its
placement in over 35 acres of garden and landscape settings creates an
extraordinary combination of art and nature.
The thousands of acres in Brookgreen’s Lowcountry History and Wildlife Preserve are rich with evidence of the great rice
plantations of the 1800s and the Gullah culture of the enslaved Africans who sustained it, as well as with the native plants
and animals of the distinctive landscapes of the Lowcountry. Visitors may explore these places by walking the Lowcountry
Trail, by touring the animal exhibits, and by traveling on the boat or overland vehicle deep into the Preserve.

Strand’s most enjoyable courses. Its sensational Par 3, 17th hole and majestic
18th provide an exciting finish to this gem.

PSAI Education Initiative
Global Sanitation Education Initiative
GET INVOLVED! The Education Initiative of the PSAI focuses on highlighting
the importance of sanitation in daily living and the lack of adequate sanitation in
developing countries.
Over one third of the world’s population does not have access to
proper sanitation. That means over one in three individuals
defecate in the open, using whatever means available. Lack
of adequate sanitation causes privacy, safety and health
issues. Inadequate sanitation often leads to the contamination
of water supplies and often negates the advantages of pouring
of billions of dollars in aid into poor countries – and it is getting
worse not better.
•A child dies every 17 seconds (more children die from diarrhea than of malaria
or AIDS)
•One third of girls drop out of school due to the lack of access to a toilet
•50 percent of hospital beds in developing countries are used for patients with
a disease related to the lack of sanitation.
Portable sanitation operations are already saving over 125,000,000 gallons of
freshwater daily, and prevent the spread of communicable diseases and the
contamination of fresh water. As an industry, portable sanitation has been a proven
means of safely handling and treating human waste for over 70 years. Portable
sanitation is an essential lifesaving necessity immediately after natural disasters,
protects the environment, improves public health and preserves human dignity.
The PSAI and its Education Initiative seeks to develop affiliations with other non-profit
foundations, associations, individuals and organizations to advance the awareness of
the pressing issues created by the lack of adequate sanitation worldwide. We also seek
to inform the general public about the importance of their voluntary use of portable
sanitation.
Sanitation operators involvement and efforts to educate their customers and the
general public is the first step in improving sanitation efforts in their community and
the world.
Industry leaders who are part of the Education Initiative will be on hand during
the Convention & Trade Show and invite you to meet with them to join the
initiative on Wednesday, November 6 at 7:30 a.m. Location to be announced.
Addiitonallly, Lothar Vermillion will be leading a workshop to lead a workshop
on Friday morning, November 8 at 9:00 a.m. called “International Differences
in Portable Sanitation.” See you there!

of Operations will make all decisions regarding pass/fail to ensure fair consideration
for all Member companies. The pilot program will not have a third party audit. The
PSAI may pull a Member’s Company Certification status at any time without dispute or
refund as solely determined by the PSAI office to ensure the integrity of the program.

PSAI Health and Safety Certification
PSAI Certification Course
Saturday, November 9, 2013 · 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Cost is $60 for PSAI Members, and $110 for Non-Members. Note that a
fully-completed registration form and payment MUST be received no later
than Wednesday, October 30, 2013.
The PSAI Certification Program began in 1992 in an effort to set the standard for skills
and knowledge in our industry. Since then, over 1,200 individuals have taken the
course and successfully passed the certification test. Certification is voluntary and all
participants must attend the educational training and review. At the conclusion of the
classroom portion of this training, each participant must pass a written test of technical
skills and industry knowledge. If the participant is a restroom company employee, they
earn a certificate of compliance. If the participant is a PSAI Supplier Member they earn
a Certificate of Education. The training is the same for both, however the portable
restroom Operator meets the compliance of an approved disposal facility, while a
Supplier Member would not. It is important to note that the individual is certified, not
the company.
The PSAI Health and Safety Manual has evolved over the years to include training and
reference material as well as a glossary of over 125 industry terms. Sections on industry
standards and equipment include portable restrooms (pre-inspection, cleaning,
delivery, placement, pickup), hand-wash stations, freshwater flush units, recirculating
flush units, and restroom trailers. Other topics include disposal, winter service
procedures, and spill handling procedures. The PSAI has produced a service video
shown in training and provided to regulatory agencies on a worldwide basis.
Training goes beyond day-to-day job responsibilities of a service technician to include
treatment at the wastewater treatment facility, and gives insight into the science of
this process. In addition, the manual covers the Americans with Disability Act, the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency, and HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis information as these
issues pertain to our industry.
PSAI Certification is the accredited licensing education for portable sanitation
companies and/or their employees in Alabama, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota
Wisconsin and elsewhere. Other states are reviewing this program for accreditation.
Certification is valid for three years before renewal. With different continuing education
requirements, the renewing process will require a full classroom session within six years.
Once a person has active certification, there is never a need to re-test. The program is
available in Spanish upon request.
