LUNCH We cordially invite senior citizens to join us for lunch Monday thru Friday at 11:15 AM. If you are a senior age 60 or over, the suggested donation is $2.50. For our visitors under the age of 60 the required cost is $5.50. Come and make new friends or reunite with former acquaintances. WATCH OUT FOR THE KIDS! School will be starting soon! PERI Public Employee Retirees, Inc. will hold their monthly meeting at The Center for Seniors on Thursday, August 4, 2016. Lunch will be served in the Dining Room at 11:30 AM followed by the 12:15 meeting. MY SENIOR CENTER Just a reminder to please sign in to MY SENIOR CENTER when you come in for lunch and/or activities. This is our way to get the count per day for attendance. If you attend the Center on a regular basis, and you do not have a card, please stop at the front desk or see a staff member. TRUSTEES MEETING The Muskingum County Center for Seniors Board of Trustees Meeting will be held August 16, 2016 at 7:30 AM in the Board Room. HOME MEAL CLIENTS: YOUR HELP IS NEEDED Home delivered meal clients can help the Center save food, gas and money. If you are not going to be home to receive your meal, please call our Nutrition Department at 740-454-9761 before 9:30 AM and let us know. This way we will not prepare a meal for you, our driver will not waste gas coming to your home, and we save money that will help serve others. MEDICARE AND MEDICARE PART D If you have questions regarding Medicare or Medicare Part D, please call 1-800-686-1578. GOLDEN BUCKEYE CARD If you have been issued a Golden Buckeye Card, and you have lost it or if your card needs replaced, you can call 1-866-301-6446. CENTER FOR SENIORS TRANSPORTATION GUIDELINES Medical appointments are top priority, as we have a very large number of clients who utilize our services. We transport only within Muskingum County, we do not provide emergency transports, and all transportation is by appointment only. As with all of our services, donations for transportation are always welcome and appreciated. The need for transportation is growing! Please consider a one time donation to help us grow this department! LEAVE A LEGACY The Muskingum County Center for Seniors depends on private contributions to assist us in providing services to the senior citizens of Muskingum County. The Leave a Legacy program provides a means where private citizens can establish memorial funds or endowments for their favorite charities. Creamy Lemonade Pie 1 can (5 ounces ) evaporated milk 1 package (3.4 ounces) instant lemon pudding mix 2 packages (8 ounces each) cream cheese, softened 3/4 cup thawed lemonade concentrate 1 graham cracker crust ( 9 inches) In a large bowl, combine milk and pudding mix; beat on low speed for 2 minutes ( mixture will be thick). In another large bowl, beat cream cheese until light and fluff, about 3 minutes. Gradually beat in lemonade concentrate. Gradually beat in pudding mixture. Pour into 9 inch prepared or homemade graham cracker crust. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until set. Optional: add a layer or dollop of Cool Whip on top. Transportation Services—Our courteous and professional drivers escort senior citizens to medical appointments, to senior nutrition sites, and a host of other senior wellness-related facilities. Reservations are required 48-hours in advance. Home Delivered Meals—Nutritious, wellbalanced home delivered meals are available Monday-Friday. Emergency meals are provided in the home during the winter months. Congregate Meals—Nutritious meals are provided in a group social setting Monday through Friday at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors; the Senior Nutrition Sites located at the Maple Ave. Hi-Rise and the Dresden Bonnie Longaberger Senior Center. Passport—The Muskingum County Center for Seniors is a certified “PASSPORT Home Delivered Meal & Transportation Provider”. Social Activities & Special Events—Social and recreational activities occur daily at the Center For Seniors. Activities include: Quilting, Knitting, Crafting, P.A.C.E. Exercise, Line Dancing, Painting, Computer Classes, Euchre, Bridge, Square Dancing, Music, Trips, Entertainment, and much The art display at the Muskingum County Library during the month of August is featuring the work of none other than the art class here at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors! The art show runs through August 26th. Be sure to stop down and see the work of our many talented artists! FYI: The art class has been ongoing for 17 years under the leadership of Phyllis Taylor & Marjorie Johnson. Most of the class works with acrylic paint, but a few work with watercolors, oil, or colored pencils. Woodburning and woodcarving are also part of the class. The goal of the class is to have fun and depict our stories through our own styles. For a small donation, class materials are provided. They strive to promote socialization throughout the year with special events and celebrations. The group holds fundraisers to put on events and donates money to Senior Programs at the center for those in need. We are excited to announce that the MCCFS has partnered with the Bonnie Longaberger Senior Center in Dresden. The center is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. They offer various activities and lunch daily. Lunch is provided by the MCCFS and is served at 11:30 with a reservation. The center’s activities include line dancing, cards, grocery Bingo, monthly birthday parties, and many more. Site Council has been reviewing and updating “MCCFS Site Council By Laws” that will apply to both sites. The next MCCFS Site Council meeting will be held on Monday, August 1st at 9:30 AM. The monthly birthday parties are now being held on the third Thursday of the month. We are looking forward to the move to our new Center and can’t wait for all that is to come! Get ready for lots of fun and entertainment coming your way!! shows (Soul of Motown, America‟s Hit Parade, and The Hatfield-McCoy Show), one evening show (Smoky Mountain Opry), 2 morning shows (The Smith Morning Variety Show and „Tis the Season Show), and free time in historic downtown Gatlinburg. The cost is $529 per person, and final payments are due August 17th. Our trips will first be offered to residents of Muskingum County, and anyone wishing to go on ANY of our trips must first have an assessment here at the Center. Don‟t worry, if you have a MY SENIOR CENTER card, you have already been assessed. And if you haven‟t been, fear not! It‟s easy and painless! Our outreach specialist, Debbie, will just need to spend a few minutes with you to get you ready to go! Next is an opportunity to see Cinderella in the Broadway Across America series in Columbus at the Ohio Theatre. This trip will take place on Tuesday, November 22nd (the week of Thanksgiving) at a discounted cost of $60 per person which includes transportation on the Fun Bus. You also have the option to travel on your own, in which case tickets are $40 per person. We will depart the Center at 4:15 PM, stop for dinner at Spaghetti Warehouse (on your own) and arrive at the theater at 7:00. Our expected return time is 11:00 PM. Deposit is 50%, with balance due by September 15th, which is also the deadline to order your ticket. We welcome residents living outside of Muskingum County, but they will be placed on a waiting list and contacted at a later date if space is available. Our first trip we have available is the LORENA STERNWHEELER LUNCH CRUISE on Friday, August 12th (12:00 to 1:00 PM). The cost is $15.00 and our van will load at 11:30 AM, or you are welcome to drive and meet us there. This cost includes a boxed lunch, with your choice of roast beef, turkey, or ham. Deadline for advance ticket purchase is August 1st. Finally, we will be enjoying a holiday trip to Oglebay‟s Festival of Lights on Thursday, December 8th with transportation provided by Lakefront Lines. The trip will include a tour of the Oglebay Mansion, buffet dinner at Wilson‟s Lodge, time in the shops, and a guided tour of the lights. The cost for this trip is $100 per person, with a $50 deposit due at sign-up. Second payment is due September 1st, with final payment due October 1st (also deadline for ticket purchase). Next is a visit to the Ohio Theatre in Columbus to see the musical, “Wicked” on Thursday, August 25th. We will board the Zandex bus at 4:15 PM, enjoy dinner at Spaghetti Warehouse (at your cost), and arrive at the show by 7:00. Tickets are $80.00 (or $70.00 if you choose to drive on your own). On October 31st, we are offering a 5 day/4 night Smoky Mountain Adventure to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Diabetic Support Group will resume its regular schedule beginning September 13th. HEALTH NURSE The Zanesville—Muskingum County Health Department nurse will resume a regular monthly schedule in October. Vital checks will be performed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Her next visit will be on October 12th at 12:00 PM. ZUMBA RETURNS Please see the monthly calendar for Tai Chi, Yoga and Zumba days and times. All events will return to their regularly scheduled day and time on September 8th with the exception of Zumba. It will resume its weekly schedule in October. DONATIONS We will not be accepting any donations of medical equipment, personal care products, clothing, books or puzzles until we reopen at our new address. Before bringing in any donations, please call the Center to ensure that we are accepting them. REMINDER The state requires us to gather information and do nutrition risk assessments on all clients we serve at the Center. This information is used to help secure funding, for statistical purposes (Federal, State and Agency Level), MY SENIOR CENTER log-in (for billing and tracking), and as an emergency contact. We are bound by confidentiality and do not share information with any outside agencies other than (our funding source) the Area Agency on Aging. A copy of our Privacy Policy is available at any time. FREE EXCHANGE DAY There will be NO exchange day for the month of August due to our move. If you have an immediate clothing need, you can visit the clothing room at the Salvation Army. They are located at 515 Putnam Avenue. Their clothing room is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM. A small donation ranging from .25 to $1.50 per item or $5.00 for a bag full is requested. If you do not have the financial means to donate, please see Mindy at the front desk.
